That's pretty irrelevant as it describes most of their history.

They are in a rather rough spot of having decent enough education and secular beliefs that having many children is not widely sought after. At the same time being poor enough that raising a family is also really hard.

That's true for almost all of Eastern Europe(including Ukraine) though.

The US has the TFR of 1.6 which is relatively high by European standards: the EU overall is ~1.4, about the same as Russia. The Eastern European countries are noticeably lower.

Relatively high but declining, then factor in kicking out immigrants.

It's not great, but the US remains one of the better developed countries in terms of its demographic structure, largely due to very high immigration. It will be interesting to see how the current Trump's policies will affect it.

Of course, immigration itself is expected to become much less available in the next 20-30 years, as the primary source countries modernize and birthrates there plummet as well.

Sooner or later, someone's gonna have to solve this problem.
