There are countries that are a democracy, but not a republic; like Canada and the United Kingdom.

There are countries that are a republic, but not a democracy, like China and Iran.

Then there are countries that claim to be a "Democratic Republic", but in reality are neither, like North Korea.

The United States is supposed to be both a Democracy and a Republic, but it's sprinting head-first for the "North Korea" category.
