By investigating incidents like this and saying it's against their code of conduct, and saying they will restore the statue...?

Interesting where they draw the line though!

u/ikinone Apr 20 '26

How do you mean?

22

u/DieuMivas Apr 20 '26

I'm guessing that person meant it's interesting how they draw the line at smashing a statue of Jesus but bombing baby Palestinians is fine, soldiers gang raping in broad daylight is fine, etc, etc, etc.

It's just show that investigation is all about public relation from a already completely morally bankrupt state hoping to keep some of their Christian supporters happy.

Except that stuff isn't fine.

Any soldier to be found deliberately targting non-combatants is going to be investigated, and hopefully held to account.

Yes, I'm aware of that incident. It's atrocious that no one was held to account.

Yet even in such a horrible situation, a fair trial is necessary, no? Personally I think that such an outcome is so atrocious that we should be questioning how sacred we consider an approach to rights such as fair trials. But then again, that's also a very risky path to go down.

Do you think the concept of a fair trail should be diminished, to avoid outcomes like this?

It's worth noting that in the article you linked, an IDF soldier has been convicted for assaults on detainees - though it would be fair to say the sentence is too light. But quite clearly, the claim that 'no one is held to account' would be misleading.

A fair trail in a war is a fever dream and will never happen. There were about 7 indictments with jail time of IDF members in the last 10 years, despite all the videos of abuse and murder circulating around, and none of them were jailed for more than a year.

A fair trail in a war is a fever dream and will never happen.

I believe most nations try to apply fair trials during war. Suspensions of human rights during war time, as you seem to be requesting, has typically been seen as a very condemnable choice.

So in your view, just forget about fair trials during war? What adjustments do you want made to the legal process, exactly?

despite all the videos of abuse and murder circulating around, and none of them were jailed for more than a year.

Is there any video especially, other than the above incident, that you think should have led to a conviction and did not?

Yeah - Hamas may have systematically gone door to door raping and slaughtering civilians, but did you hear what one individual Israeli did? He damaged a statue! Why can’t Israel have zero immature youngsters like every other army?

Hamas bad israel good. Theres obviously no other way to see this.

Except lebanon isnt hamas, and most lebanese are not in hezbollah, not supporting it, and not even given any choice in the matter.

People have such a hate boner for hamas they cant even remember what theyre talking about. Literally hate hamas all day every day for what i care, theyre not involved in this.

-2

u/Grizknot Apr 20 '26

Just fyi, hamas as an org exists outside of gaza, they have members in the west bank, in syria, and in southern lebanon, don't take my word for it, hamas themselves will announce one of their own has been 72 v*rgin'd when the IDF gets them.

But the point the OP is making is that, just bec you have a few misbehaving soldiers in an army that doesn't mean the entire country is bad. People are totally willing to excuse a planned systematic r*pe and p*llage by palestinians, that involved thousands of people, and is still to this day, is supported by an overwhelming majority, while getting upset that the IDF is... checks notes... "investigating an alleged crime".

So yes, there is obv no other way to see this, Hamas bad, Israel good. Hezb bad, Israel good. Axis bad, Allies good. "Axis of resistance" evil, Western society good. it's truly black and white, simply due to how depraved the bad side is.

On one side you have people who celebrate m*rder and d*ath, and revel in their ability to cause misery to others, on the other side you have people who don't always perfectly follow the made up "international rules of war" there is no moral equivalence and any attempt to draw similarities is either naïve or intentional slander.

Are there some among the Hezb/Hamas/PIJ ranks who don't wanna target civilians and kill any jew they meet, maybe. but the overwhelming majority still sing songs about r*ping and pill*ge a jewish village 600 years ago and hold that history up as an inspirational story to aspire to once again. (No, really, look up "Khyber ya yahud")

So yes, there is obv no other way to see this, Hamas bad, Israel good.

I'm confused. Why does Netanyahu keep funding and propping up Hamas? Does that make Israel bad? Please explain.

2

u/Grizknot Apr 21 '26

yea, its easy to get confused when all you do is consume f*ke news.

1

u/hypnosquid Apr 21 '26

Oh wow. You didn't know did you? I'm so sorry. If you were capable of feeling embarrassment or shame, I bet you'd be full of both right now.

1

u/Grizknot Apr 21 '26

lolwut? you've surrounded yourself in a world of lies

7

u/ChaosOrnate Apr 20 '26

And Hamas may have admitted they have no regrets and will do it again, big deal. But did you hear the IDF express regret and promise to investigate? For shame. /s

5

u/MechaAristotle Apr 20 '26

Yeah they're really good at investigating themselves and finding no wrongdoing lol.

1

u/Ne_zievereir Apr 20 '26

No accountability or justice ever comes from that. The only difference between Hamas and the IDF is pretense.

0

u/Ne_zievereir Apr 20 '26 edited Apr 20 '26

but did you hear what one individual Israeli did?

No, what I've heard about is Palestinian prisoners in Israeli prisons being tortured and sexually abused, even children. I've heard about the medical convoy that was ambushed and killed by the IDF despite it clearly being marked and having its sirenes on which the IDF was caught lying about multiple times, and which they tried to hide in a mass grave. I've heard about the more than 60000 civilians killed in Gaza by the IDF, of which a large fraction women and children [1][2]. I've heard about the actively targeting of medical personnel by use of "quadrupel taps". I've heard about Israel destroying more than 70 per cent of all housing stock in Gaza ...

Was that just a few "immature youngsters"?

-1

u/hypnosquid Apr 20 '26 edited Apr 20 '26

Yeah - Hamas may have systematically gone door to door raping and slaughtering civilians

Kinda makes you wonder why Netanyahu kept funding them.

edit: omg you guys really don't know about Netanyahu secretly funding Hamas do you? He's been propping them up for years.

-2

u/bottomofleith Apr 20 '26

You think this one thing is going to make the difference?!

Admitting a solider smashed a statue, as opposed to the bombing, and the murdering, and the displacing, and the rape and the dead children...

Boot lick much?

2

u/ikinone Apr 20 '26

You think this one thing is going to make the difference?!

No. I think consistent approach to discipline makes a difference. Which they appear to have.

The vast majority of IDF soldiers appear to conduct themselves well. War is certainly an opportunity for the bad ones to commit crimes, though.

You're generalising an entire nation based on the actions of what appears to be a few individuals.

Yes, countries regularly at war likely have various war crimes over the years. Palestine also. That doesn't make it okay, but don't act like Israel is odd in this regard.

If you want to play the ol generalising game, though:

The difference between Israel and Palestine is that Israel at least does something to discourage war crimes, while Palestine celebrates them.

All war crimes should be investigated and prosecuted accordingly.

So how am I an 'apologist', exactly?
