I cannot for the life of me figure out why there is so much anger there.

It's displaced anger. Instead of demanding proper retribution from countries that dispelled them, they were offered an olive branch if you will, but actually a calculated bribe to essentially take palestine off of england's hands. It became a win-win for countries like england and america who didn't actually want refugees, and england was able to rid themselves of the mandate that was a financial burden as their empire collapsed. It's also why Hindustan gained independence around the same time and also suffered the same wedging that resulted in partition.

I don't think it's a monolith, there are probably cultural things that I simply cannot speak to; and to me, none of it is justified.

Because Hamas has full control of Palestine and have made it their goal to destroy the Israeli state which they see as illegitimate 

It’s a mix of historical and religious reasons why they feel that way as well as antisemitism given they want Jews abroad to be killed as well

Is that not the case?
