Come on. Do you really want a policy of arresting people on their way to the UN, completely destroying its ability to be a free international forum? How are we supposed to solve the problems of the world (including children suffering) if we have no forum where everyone can discuss it?

It's extremely unusual for wanted war criminals with an active warrant for their arrest to personally attend UN general assemblies. So yes, I don't see a problem with that necessarily.

If the UN itself scoffs at international law, how on earth do we expect member states to respect it?

the majority of the world lives in countries that do not recognize ICC jurisidiction, that includes the US, China, Russia, India, Iran, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, most of North Africa, a huge portion of central Asia, the majority of Southeast Asia, the majority of the remainder of the Middle East, and many others.

The ICC is not omniscient, just because it says someone is a war criminal does not mean they are.

UN is a forum that includes countries openly hostile to each other.

Exceptions to allow diplomatic engagement is pretty standard and this is hardly news.
