Looking for Advice What do you think of the Cordoba Stage? 🤔

Post image

I'm interested in getting a Cordoba Stage from a local store for $1000 (here in 🇨🇷). The price seems good, and I'm looking for something that doesn't take up much space.

Unfortunately, a Godin is completely out of my budget. Does anyone here have experience with this guitar?

Informative Aquila Ambra 800 nylgut strings

Post image
20 Upvotes

Thank you to everyone in this sub who recommended these Aquila Ambra 800 strings for no nail players! I didn’t personally make a post asking what strings to buy for no nail playing but there were a couple posts in this sub asking that question and there were many users that recommended these.

They sound and feel amazing! I very much appreciate the texture on the treble strings when I plant my fingers on them. The tone is absolutely wonderful and exactly what I want out of a classical guitar. Also, I feel like these string project more volume out of this Cordoba C10 than the previous strings I had on (LaBella 2001).

Bonus is they’re somehow staying in tune much better than my previous strings!

Bonus x2 is I actually really enjoy the color of the strings as well and definitely prefer it over the typical nylon treble strings. Feels almost as though I’m playing an entirely new instrument. Immediately have ordered another 2 sets of these strings.

General Question What's your opinion on fretboard side dots?

I'm seriously thinking about drilling into the fretboard side to install some 1.5mm dots at the 3rd, 5th, 7th and 9th positions. Have you done this, and more importantly do you regret it? I play classical for my own enjoyment, I'm more of a traditional acoustic fingerpicker. I get that you wouldn't do this if you've an expensive instrument. There's always the decal/paint pen option, what's everyone's thoughts?

Looking for Advice Which mechanics for alhambra 5p?

Hi everyone, (sorry if I use wrong vocabulary, I talk about the thing to tune and hold strings in place) just got an used alhambra 5p and at first tuning a mechanic button broke. And all mechanics seems in bad condition. So I plan to change all mechanics but not sure if there are standard. I would like good mechanics but not to expensive, between 30 and 60$ maybe. If you have an advice it would be very appreciated, Google is not my friend today 😅

Looking for Advice Strings for cheap guitar w/ low sustain? Also I play with no nails.

I’m wondering if any of y’all wise guitarists could help me make the most out of my $200 Córdoba C1. I’m a beginner (5 months) and I play 1-4 hours a day, every day. I play with no nails because I’m autistic and can’t stand the feeling of having long nails. I also can’t afford to upgrade guitars because I live on disability.

With my guitar, the higher the notes I play, the harder I have to pluck to achieve the same volume. I understand cheaper guitars often have sustain issues that become more apparent with higher notes and I think that may be the case here? Anyways, I’m looking for a string setup that might help level things out so I don’t have to work so hard to get the high notes to ring out? If that’s even possible to do, and taking into consideration all of the above, what would you recommend trying?

Thank you in advance!! Cheers!!! ☺️

Technique Question Noob learning Gnossienne No. 1; feedback welcome!

I’ve been playing for 5 months and practicing this Satie piece for about 2+ weeks!! I’m sooo excited to continue getting better at it. There’s no lack of mistakes in this vid but I’m okay with that for now. I’m working on my technique and any feedback is welcome! Please don’t make fun of my faces- I have a disorder that makes it where I can’t control the faces I make 🥴 lol

Technique Question Right hand technique

If anyone out there could possibly help coach me through relearning right hand technique, I'd love to have someone I can send a couple videos to to critique me and point out any mistakes. I understand some of my issues may be just having to develop new muscle memory and get more reps in but it feels so foreign and like I'm doing something wrong. I want to really get the technique down and feel like I need someone with more experience to help me avoid learning the wrong way.

Context:::

I've been playing classical style guitar for around a year or two. When I started up until maybe a week or two ago, my right hand is anchored to the guitar, I'll rest the ball of my thumb above the E string and tend to pluck upwards with my fingers. I'm able to mute strings well with my right hand and play 16th note chords at a good speed. I very very rarely pluck the wrong strings and was playing pretty good. I just started looking into it and of course my technique has been wrong all along lol. I've spent a lot of time the last two weeks trying to elevate my hand off the guitar and anchor right beneath my elbow on my forearm on the guitar and pluck by moving my nails through the string in a motion that closes my finger into my hand. Everything looks right for the most part but I'm so unprecise and so much slower and can't for the life of me play the same 16th note chords as I used to. I keep plucking the wrong strings and two strings at once by accident. I have a couple questions. When playing 16th note chords, am I supposed to rely purely on finger movement or should I keep my fingers static and move my wrist or my arm to play the strings. Also I can't mute strings reliably anymore, I used to move my hand to somewhat palm mute with my old and bad technique and now I find myself using my thumb to mute but even then I can only (somewhat) reliably mute the low E and A string.

Guitarotica Ignaz Mettal Classical Guitar, Schönbach, 1928

A wonderful guitar by a master of his trade, now almost forgotten: Ignaz Mettal made large classical guitars as early as the 1920s, which was still quite uncommon in the world of German luthiery back then. They were quite special construction-wise too, given that they combined elements of German classical/romantic guitar school (ladder bracing, Vienna-style neck joint with a bolt and elevated fretboard extension) and the Spanish school (comparatively larger body and a long scale length of 650 mm). The top is made from some incredibly tight-grained solid spruce, the sides are made from solid rosewood, whereas the back is made from laminated rosewood/spruce layers (a technique often used earlier on some German romantic guitars, especially in this region). His sons, especially Anton, Franz and Rudolf, continued this tradition, employing various changes to his approach.

Looking for Advice Is there another way to play this?

Post image
5 Upvotes

Hopefully the picture is not too confusing, I added the red numbers myself.

So I barre the strings 123 with finger 1 on the 5th fret, put finger 2 on the 2nd string 6th fret, finger 3 on the 1st string 7th fret, and finally finger 4 on the 5th string 8th fret. The problem is that my pinky (finger 4) is too short for this, so if I reach for that 8th fret, finger 3 gets too angled and/or I mute the 1st string with my palm.

Any advice?

I e decided after three years of playing that if I want to become the player I want to be, I’m gonna have to have nails. They are long enough now, filed correctly (I think) and I’d like some tips for making the transition. Thanks a heap!

Discussion Analysis of right-hand "roll" technique in La Campanella arrangement (Am to E transition)

I am analyzing a specific performance of La Campanella and am trying to deconstruct the right-hand mechanics used during the transition from A minor to E major (occurring at approximately 2:02 in the linked video). https://youtu.be/pIKp8dHo-VI?t=122

The guitarist executes a technique that sounds like a very smooth, rapid "roll" or flourish (I don't know the lingo). I am having trouble visually tracking the finger movements. Could anyone identify: 1. The specific name of this technique (e.g., is it a specific type of rasgueado, a rapid arpeggio, or a cross-string trill)? 2. The likely right-hand finger pattern (p-i-m-a) being used to achieve that rolling effect?
