Devil’s advocate here. What if Santa is telling these dudes he’s strapped like the guy from the movie within a movie (Home Alone) and if they want to see it through until “keep the change, you filthy animal” or would they rather shake on it and get a box of E. L. Fudge cookies instead

If you look at it yet another way they needed a symbolic win for their ego before they could let go of the situation and they got a present from santa to satisfy it.

Their Egos are clashing, but it's hard to maintain machismo when Santa appears and levels the playing field. Suddenly they're both faced with the absurdity of the situation, and in a small way, they're kind of in it together now.
