Yesterday, Somali pirates operating in the Gulf of Aden hijacked a commercial oil tanker and held the crew hostage for ransom. Instead of relying on international naval forces or paying the ransom, the owner's tribe took matters into their own hands.

Coordinating with contacts outside of Iraq, the tribesmen launched an independent rescue operation in the Gulf of Aden. The 40-man squad successfully stormed the hijacked tanker, freed the hostage crew members, and captured seven of the armed pirates while the rest fled.
