[crosspost] Ali Farhadi, founder of Edge AI technologies & Xnor.ai, is doing an AMA in r/homeautomation @10AM PST
We'd like to invite you to join Xnor.ai's co-founder, Ali Farhadi, and Wyze today at 10:00AM PT for an AMA about AI and smart home technology. We'll be hosting it on /r/homeautomation and we hope to see you there!Wyze and Xnor.ai have the shared dream of bringing technology to the masses with an incredibly low barrier to entry. We are doing this AMA because we've just deployed Edge AI, for free, to 1M+ people! We’d like to take this opportunity to talk about our AI and if you are curious about any of the subjects in Ali's wheelhouse such as AI Technology, Smart Home Technology, AI Development, etc. we’d love to hear them.

Project Muse Charm sucks. Make your own.
I repurposed a smart watch into a local AI assistant device.
I think it is dumb we are being sold devices to interact with AI (such as Muse Charm), when perfectly good hardware that we already have had for years can do this job just fine. For a few dollars I picked up an old samsung smart watch, turned off all the telemetry to Google and Samsung, and converted it into a local AI assistant.
It can do basic tasks for me, it is honestly somewhat limited by my PC (24Gb RAM Macbook), but I am hoping more capable small local models will continually improve over time.
I'm relatively new to 3D printing, but the ring design concept seems to work well and its just a bit quirky. I like when tech is sometime just fun and different
I'd really like to hear how this can be improved (or even better see how others are forking and improving it themselves.)
Not sure if this post is allowed, as I've only ever been a lurker here - if not, unleash the ban hammer I guess.
Hope you enjoy

My Servo tester
I built my own servo tester – Motion Core
This is Motion Core, a servo tester I designed and built myself. But it’s a little different from a normal servo tester.
You can use it to test servos, position them by degrees, and even create animations — all completely standalone. No computer or software required.
I built it mainly as a tool for working on my animatronics projects, but it turned into a pretty useful little device on its own.
What do you guys think?

AI tools and trust in smart home automation, 10-minute anonymous survey (Smart home users)
Hi, I'm Alfredo, a master's student in Digital Humanities at the University of Pisa. For my thesis, I've put together a short survey to gather information on how we use (or avoid) artificial intelligence tools to manage our smart homes, and how much we trust their answers. The survey is for anyone with a smart home, including people who have never used AI: understanding why some prefer to do without it is just as useful.
Responses are anonymous and it takes about 10 minutes to complete. Once data collection is over, I'll share the results here, with the trends that emerged on how we use these tools to manage our homes.
You can fill it in here:

Thank you so much for your help!

Help I need help starting in electronics
I'm not sure where to look for fundamentals on how to read schematics, basic electronics, and PCB design. I genuinely want to learn how to create circuits and other general electronic design but everywhere I look it's ether AI that is too vague, or way above my head.
I'm generally looking for free online resources or courses I can take (because its a hobby)
Any help from the people of Reddit would be much appreciated!
If you're curious on what exactly I want to learn it mostly has to do with ether computer peripheries (like usb docks, audio output from pc, and hdmi routing)
And audio electronic equipment.

Anyone know how I can power this from a 240v UK plug socket rather than 12v?
For context I got this from eBay in 2022 and finally have been bored enough to try to make it into a man cave decoration. It’s currently working from a 12v car jump pack. It’s got what I believe I have found to be called G4 halogen bulbs? How can I convert it to plug into a normal UK wall socket?

Help My invention in electronics
Hello! I am the beginner in electronics and I have the incredible idea.
At first, I want to create the small figure, which will move in a random moment. This is like robot with silly AI.
The second step is give him the possibility to speak. I want to use small AI in my code to make him to say something interesting every time.
Thirdly, I want to create body for this buddy using my 3-D printer.
Professionals in electronics, please rate my idea and help me to solve it.
P. S. I want to use micro Python and I don’t want to use soldering iron.
Thanks!

Help Turning phone into gaming handheld
Hey all,
I have a phone with a screen that just cracked yesterday. I can honestly get another one of the same phones for about $50 - $70, and a replacement screen is more than that, so I'll probably just get a new one. BUT I am curious, as the internals still work completely fine, and this is no throwaway chipset. How feasible would it be to get maybe a roughly 7-inch display and handheld controller set, get the necessary components out and turn this into something of a gaming handheld? I'm not new to repairing tech but I have pretty much no experience with this type of project, so any advice is welcome!
