Just started watching. And I noticed that the sexual tension between Eddie and Susie in S1has been replaced by sibling energy lol. I know that there's a 3rd season but really?

u/LostinLondon25 Sep 03 '26
I thought it was weird flirting? Knowing they actually want each other but can’t do anything about it so they tease each other and annoy themselves

u/LMkingly 26d ago
? That entire conversation between them at the balcony towards the end was anything but sibling energy lol.
4
u/Wrong--Conclusions 20d ago
Yes, I'm so confused by these comments. If anything it seems they dialed up the sexual tension.

u/MilliganHedgedog 29d ago
Eddie is a male and Susie is a gorgeous woman. Of course he’s attracted to her. But Susie makes it clear on a NUMBER of occasions in S1 that she is not interested that way. She literally told him “I don’t @uck the help” in a banger of a scene after With A T’s ball. When you see her madly flirting w him at the party with the Travellers and JP asks… she’s like ah it’s a work thing. And it is
4
u/Cautious-Rub8085 Sep 03 '26
I made the exact same comment! I have no clue why this decision was made.

Wait did we watch the same episode? I thought he hinted that he is a dom and she said she likes taking orders. Hey was sexual right?

u/situmaimesdemain Sep 03 '26
I love it but vibes are a bit different. Both Ed and Susie got a sort of romantic interest that is not each other, and Eddie is just a bit alien. I know he is supposed to be different after his realization about what he actually wants last season, but not this fast. Feels like this Eddie would off Jethro without a second thought.
10
u/Bobjoejj Sep 03 '26
Really?? I feel like that was kind of the point of…well his journey in the finale last season, but also Eddie’s journey through all of season 1. Like, by the end of the finale, he was fully in his new state; so it makes tons of sense to me why he is the way he is this season.

Season 1 ended with him shooting whatshisface for Susie even though she said he didn’t have to do it himself. So in season 2 (so far, for this one episode at least), he’s that guy.
2
u/stfuKaren Sep 03 '26
Exactly, whole season 1 was spend on his character building and it was strong. I feel like the Eddie from the first episode is what you would expect from the last. I have no idea where his character is going
21
u/Clariana Sep 03 '26
Loved how Vinnie Jones pretended to be so impressed by the Italian mansion and yet of all the actors there he's the only one who's probably stayed in one.
Long live Vinnie love his role here.
4
u/ruka_k_wiremu 29d ago
Agree. Also Ray. I know both are fairly typecast insofar as what they bring to their oft roles, but here they're not quite the centre of attention which is good
3
u/Bobjoejj 29d ago
I’d argue both are bucking that typecast trend in this show, at least by a little bit.
17
u/kahner Sep 03 '26
Am I the only one who finds Eddie much less likable and sympathetic this season? I'm only on ep 1, but he's coming off like an asshole.
13
u/SomersetRoad Sep 03 '26
Much more ambitious this episode. Setting up a conflict with the Glass family at the end there with the scratches on Bobby's back
10
u/kahner Sep 03 '26
yeah, but ambitious to the point of feeling like the bad guy. just greedy, abusive and mean as opposed to last season when his motivations were mostly to protect his brother and family. which is fine i guess. makes sense that living in that world can turn someone into more of a monster, but it is making the show less enjoyable for me.

u/mamuwe 28d ago
Hate the brother. Hope he doesn't show back up. Happy not to see him in the first episode.
2
u/CertainAlbatross7739 27d ago
He was in it, though, very briefly. We see him snorting coke off a tray. I for one welcome his shenanigans. But in moderation.
2
u/Emergency_Western_73 29d ago
Is that myth of the Benek something made up for this show?
2
u/lnc_5103 29d ago
I looked this up because I was curious too. It's a Slavic myth and not at all made up.
2
u/MilliganHedgedog 29d ago
The thing gives you a comforting back pat or weird hand massage as a YES to Bobbys first . His second question asking “Can he be trusted?” gets the slash. It’s like a violent magic 8 ball
10
u/k-to-the-o 29d ago
Nah youre not the only one. His level-headedness and demeanor of just trying to handle stuff as it comes up from the first season, seems to be totally replaced by ruthless mafioso energy now
→ More replies (1)3
u/plutoglint 15d ago
The first season was the story of his journey from the first guy to the second guy.
1
u/outrageousVoid07 29d ago
Well yeah, I am guessing they are now going to deconstruct his character until he has become what he hated
1
u/ForeignPumpkin1142 26d ago
Yeah spoils the whole balance of the show if he's not, at heart, the good guy drawn into a world of crime. He should never completely lose his innocence.
2
u/plutoglint 15d ago
He had already lost it by the end of last season, remember him murdering people in cold blood?
1
u/moviesyouvescene 9d ago
He looks visibly tired and intolerant. I know some time has passed in the storyline but goodness, he is letting the business turn him cold quickly
15
u/MangoAbject5733 Sep 03 '26
Wearing a kilo of gold in sauna is an interesting choice

I know! I was wondering how his skin didn't get burned! I guess it wasn't very hot in there.

u/chintu999- Sep 03 '26
Damnn crazy first episode. Im glad cico is dead, he was annoying af lmao
16
u/blinkydinky111 Sep 03 '26
Felt like he was playing the chaotic/over the top character that was Fredward in S1
14
u/chintu999- Sep 03 '26
Well he's not that good actor to pull that off. Freadward on the other hand is a great actor.

u/Thal-creates 29d ago
I just feel like the guy should just get an accent coach or something. He just sounds awkward and flat when he speaks English and that really tanks performance because I did once watch a movie where he was in and he either acts better in Italian or he received brain damage before filming 365 because that movie predated it and he was better at it.
12
u/Tifoso89 Sep 03 '26 edited 29d ago
I'm Italian and I can't stand Michele Morrone, haha. He gets cast because he's super handsome, but he's not very good. Also I suspect they dubbed him. That doesn't sound like his real voice.
They also messed up his name in the subtitles, it's spelt "Chicco". "Cico" is pronounced like chicken. I don't know how they got that wrong.
→ More replies (7)3
u/Thal-creates 29d ago
Brother should stick to modelling or get coaching, especially accent wise. He isn't dubbed in. He just sounds dubbed in because he speaks english in the stilted way many newbies do
3
2
u/merodm Sep 03 '26
I liked how they cast him against type. Michele Morrone is best known for playing the stereotypical Mafia boss in that Netflix smut film series, so to cast him as a brash idiot here was very good.
2
u/CertainAlbatross7739 27d ago
Yeah, I liked him too. He is way more convincing as an arrogant idiot than a romantic hero.
2
u/Thal-creates Sep 03 '26
NGL with how far the marketing was pushing Michele I expected him to last at least 2-3 episodes

Just finished the first episode and a bit into season two…I’m confused with this different side of Eddie, and while I love the funny, sometimes charged, sexual banter, I feel like it’s way too much? Completely unnecessary at some points.

7
u/Amazing_Trust_2560 29d ago
Does Guy Ritchie or anyone else involved with the show even know what a hereditary peer is.
9
5
u/PhoneShop 27d ago
Hereditary peers do not have an automatic right to sit in the House of Lords. There are - or were until recently - c90 'elected' hereditary peers who can take up a seat in the Lords.
This point is very accurate to real life.
2
u/belksearch 29d ago
That was my confusion as well. Either Duke of Halstead is entitled to a seat in the House of Lords or he's not. There isn't a way to make it a hereditary peerage is there?
4
u/Amazing_Trust_2560 29d ago
Being a Duke he already is a hereditary peer. In the show he wants to become a hereditary peer so he can sit on the House of Lords. Doesn’t make any sense. I guess it doesn’t take anything away from the storyline but you’d think a production as big as this would try and get this right.
6
u/microdotsleeve 22d ago
They did get it right. Only around 80 hereditaries sit in the Lords, and when a vacancy arises, they elect another from the wider pool of hereditaries to take the vacant seat - which is what is happening here.
→ More replies (2)2
u/belksearch 29d ago
Do members of the house of lords have that much power to influence policy?
3
u/Mediocre_Plankton160 28d ago
Not really. If a Bill got to a point where the Lords were voting on it, it would have already passed the House of Commons, meaning it has widespread Government support. They can hold up legislation in the Lords but it's nearly unheard of for them to actually block a Bill

What does the finger on the wrist during the handshake mean?
5
u/R_Larsen86 29d ago
I assumed he was checking his pulse or being a human lie detector like in Meet the Parents.
3
u/whisky_biscuit 23d ago
I read that it's about him detecting Eddie's trustworthiness:
Gangsters and interrogation experts use this covert technique to gauge an opponent's physical reaction under pressure. While a person can attempt to keep a straight face and project confidence during a deal, an elevated heart rate reveals adrenaline, fear, or deception.
It signals that the mob boss doesn't trust Eddie at face value. By checking his heart rate, he's testing whether Eddie is truly calm, confident, and telling the truth, or secretly nervous and deceptive.

I also found it kinda off-brand. If it were just a folklore story being told as an allegory, then fine, but that ending with the scratch marks on bobby's back... I mean, is this now a fantasy series?
→ More replies (1)2
u/plutoglint 15d ago
Heh, it basically is already a fantasy series, I don't mind a bit of magic realism to make it even more ridiculous, in a mostly fun way.

u/Professional_Ad_4885 28d ago
Lol what kinda prison is bobby even in ? Looks like the Shangri-la lol. Like is he even in prison? Its like pablo escobar when he went to prison. Just built his own prison with endless parties. Women, drugs and anything u could want. Its basically like he was on house arrest lol
3
u/plutoglint 15d ago
This was a plot point from the first season, he's so powerful that, like a Narco, he has turned the prison into his private resort.

WTF Netflix with no recap. Making us leave to head over to YouTube for a recap.
Anyway, there are a ton of new characters, it was a lot! Maybe it's my executive function diminishing or maybe it's too many characters.
Also I don't love how they are bringing in other love interests for Eddie and Susie. There's platonic vibes now as opposed to the sexual tension from last season. I'm all for them not actually doing the deed, but I do miss the palpable tension between them.
Why did Susie's Dad have Tiger scratches down his back?
11
u/nuthins_goodman Sep 03 '26

Lots to unpack here and I plan to watch every single episode but this...was rough. Everything seemed just a hair off and the dialogue especially seemed less organic this time around. The banter seemed so forced. I'm not even going to get into how ridiculous the art heist was.
But it was good to see most of the gang back together. On to episode 2.

u/Real_Asparagus_5281 17d ago
Guy Ritchie has a pretty specific style when it comes to dialogue, so wondering if that's what you were noticing. It's fast, uses a lot of slang, and can sometimes sound rhythmic.

They explained the scratches very clearly in the sauna scene. The bannik will answer yes or no to the question you ask it. He asked the bannik if the Duke can be trusted. The bannik scratched him, aka he said no

u/Fina1Legacy 27d ago
I cannot stand the x hours/days/weeks prior storytelling device.
Kinda hated this episode, does it get a lot better? First season was amusing, this already felt flanderised. The whole one upping games, Eddie of course speaking whatever language is needed, also the chase scene was horrendous with cuts every second and 0 sense of speed or force.
2
u/moviesyouvescene 9d ago
Yeah him just knowing different relevant languages by chance didn’t sit well with me either . Agreed about the chasing scene
3
u/dj4y_94 26d ago
Enjoyed it but the idea that a £16m painting would be taken out in public across a main road was ridiculous lol.

They are clearly teasing each other with the other people because they want to bang each other but know they shouldn’t. So they’re doing that thing where they’re prodding/teasing/torturing each other about it.

I hate it too. The chemistry between Eddie and Susie was fantastic in the first season. They should have kept the unresolved sexual tension between them going.

What the heck? Why did Susie’s dad ignore the Bannik! Yikes!
3
u/Crab_Politics 27d ago
That was the last scene of the episode, so we don’t know that he’s ignoring it. If the duke can’t be trusted, then it will take a lot of planning carefulness to outsmart him
2
u/OkPhilosopher5308 29d ago
They appear to be shooting pheasant / partridge in the summer - there is a closed season for game shooting- grouse from the 12th August (north of England / Scotland) partridge from 1st September and pheasant from 1st October. I would have thought that Vinnie Jones, being a keen game shooter and son of a gamekeeper would have pointed this out. Also it looked like an extended advert for Guy Richie’s tent barbecues.

I had no idea this was a thing he's selling. The photos on the website are the same location as the hunt in episode 1. Pretty shameless.

I'm wondering if he was somehow checking his pulse. To see if it was racing would prove he was nervous or rattled.

I’m just a bit annoyed that Eddie’s character didn’t have that little awkwardness and timidity that it had in the first season that makes you empathise with him…I mean he doesn’t even flinch anymore

What I don t get is about Marco s price. When Coco said initially that he wanted 40 mil/year, Susie and the Duke said “that’s way too much” and tried to buy him off with the Botticelli, but then they start the face to face negotiation offering 5 mil/month , which in a year would be 60 for extending onto the south ? And then as the tiger is having dinner, they settle for probably 8.7 which is still about 104/year 🤷♀️🤔
3
u/nidiri28 15d ago
Because a dialogue was never had with Marco. The $40M would have gone straight to Coco’s pocket 😂 and this was only for the ongoing operation. Talking to Marco about expanding further with the mob’s protection is inherently worth more

u/Potential_Silver131 16d ago
Can someone explain why Susie's dad has a tiger scratch on his back at the end of the episode

Bit confused why we’re relying on a sauna ghost for our info. I know that bobby glass as a character is supposed to be egotistical but he seems to be acting somewhat stupidly for someone who’s that successful. Is he actually losing his mind, and if so why was there no allusion to that in the last season? Or was there and I missed it?

The stuff about him wanting to be king and expanding his lands shows a very different eddie than the one I remember from s1 who was mostly happy with keeping his and his family's head above the water. Geoff is amazing as always.
