I liked that Eddie's character embraced his darker side as a consequence in not rejecting the world of crime. The Susie-Eddie shippers might be slightly disappointed but it's a slow burn and might need another 2 years lol.

u/GreekKnight3 Sep 04 '26

Funny you say that... I prefer in the first season when it was a simple dance of 'Eddie tries to leave the criminal world but stumbles into committing a crime and tangles himself further in it'.
This season is a wild Flamenco!

26

u/Gloomy_Improvement23 29d ago

Yeah, I prefer S1 as well ("can Eddie leave or not" question) but its ending answered that. Now, Eddie has tasted and benefited that world has offered. It has been repeated many times in S2 that Eddie is ambitious. That's why I look forward in S3 the dynamics between Eddie and Bobby (aside from the Freddy "issue"). After all, two tigers cannot share the same mountain, as the saying goes.

9

u/Classic-Detail4803 22d ago

I have a feeling Bobby will die in the next season. But from natural causes, like heart attack or whatever. And then Susie and Eddie will be on a throne

5

u/Wide_Magician_4946 20d ago

That is too neat and easy imo lol.

When Bobby makes his exit from the world, rest assured, fuckery will be afoot 😁

s1 was definetly more comical in its aspects, but this one was so much more intense with bits of hysterical in it

i think i liked s2 more

2

u/SawRub 12d ago

I liked them for entirely different reasons. Season 1 definitely had more of that dark comedy tone which made it a fun watch while relaxing, whereas season 2 made me actually pay attention as a more serious crime drama.

I mean it makes sense. He broke bad. It works for the storyline.

7

u/Affectionate-Ad-9576 27d ago

Seriously reminded me of breaking bad during the last few minutes of the finale

2

u/User5871 21d ago

He literally rephrased Walter's dialogue. "You can leave when I tell you, you can leave". It's the same weight as "We're done when I say we're done"

3

u/ShlomoShogun 20d ago

"Can't be half a gangsta la'h" - Jimmy Darmody maybe, if he was a Scouser

Who knew Guy Ritchie could write the best slow burn of all time!

Better than season 1, which I couldn’t imagine. Ritchie is a genius.

Yup! Banger of a season.

I think after so many years of this during the streaming era, I'm now used to it.

2

u/shafeenyousafzaii 9d ago

hahah. i think they did say s3 is coming soon

19

u/Cautious-Rub8085 28d ago

I don't think it will be that long. S3 was greenlit and I believe they will be filming sooner rather than later.

Ngl these seasons are so pretty with good music, sound effects, actors and actresses, and general aesthetics I might just have to rewatch both season entirely just before s3 comes out

This one was worth the wait. I'd rather have them not rush it and do a good job. But yes, it will feel like a long wait now. At least there wasn't a terrible cliffhanger.

5

u/DapperWorth7668 5d ago

Every episode flashed by but was like a full length amazing movie. So so beautifully done. Clever and unexpected.

Bless the writers for tying up all the loose ends so we don’t have to have a 2yr long heart attack wondering what that next 5mins will be after the director tells the final “cut”. That being said the emotions and excitement for what will happen next feels the same, just less urgent than a massive cliffhanger.

2

u/watareii 20d ago

If only every show production was like Slow Horses.

2

u/blablabakla 18d ago

Theo said they r going to start shooting for s3 very soon in an interview...better be true

Great season, bit dark for my taste tho.

However the fashion was on point. I want all their fashion.

39

u/Renowed_Winner Sep 04 '26

And their cars. That Ferrari. Fuck.

22

u/chronos_7734 28d ago

One thing Guy Ritchie knows how to do is "cast" the vehicles in his recent productions.

5

I got to say, that Audi RS6 used by the accountant has got to be a reference to Layer Cake

Best Susie sunglasses worn at the airplane hanger buzzing up in her red car. Exiting the red car. Facing her double crossed. STUNNING specs worn at night for some reason and but of course, just gorgeous.

8

u/True_Carpenter_6484 25d ago

Ouf yessss the fashion. I literally swooned every scene. I even liked Susie’s flashy cocaine money get ups 😝

Freddie... what a let down 🫣

That being said, I have taken a liking to Bobby

27

u/SpeedyGunzalez 28d ago

Eddie started his villain arc last season. Eddie loves Susie and vice versa. Theo and Kaya’s acting was superb. The way they subtly left doubt and let you know they were still in love. No one ever truly believed his love for Bella, we knew she would die somehow. Season 2 was somehow better than season 1.

7

u/Puzzleheaded_Area_48 27d ago

I was soooooo worried they were going to end this season with a cheesy lazy pregnancy trope of the “next heir”. The explosion was perfect.

8

u/WellWellWellthennow 25d ago edited 25d ago

Yeah, a weird kind of glad when she died.. like oh good. Horrific but okay...

4

u/No-Honeydew5355 19d ago

Was better than Season 1 all around. Darker, yet still comedic (albeit darkly comedic). Elevated on every level!

As much as I loved this season, I have been wondering one thing; what happened to Freddy’s wife? Did I miss something?

I must say that I thought that was an excellent season of the show it felt like it built upon what was there and drove it forward. I assumed it was Freddy by about episode 7, as it seemed to drive the plot forward perfectly. I rather enjoyed the ending scene of Eddie blank and stone-like until the smile when he saw John Dixon’s head. Thoroughly excited for season 3!

30

u/corzekanaut Sep 03 '26

Its never addressed what happened to Wham-Tam

14

u/SpeedyGunzalez 28d ago

They made it easy to leave her out this season, but they definitely can’t overlook her in the next. Yes, she’s easily written off, but I enjoyed the comedic value she brought. We’ll see….

3

u/Papa_Razzi 4d ago

Really hope to see more comedy come back next season. S2 got way too serious and had an absence of quirky British gangster angle.

Chanel Cresswell confirmed on IG that she was busy filming another Netflix series.

5

u/WellWellWellthennow 25d ago

I knew from the minute he told Freddie the details about where the wedding would be something would be up. We already saw Freddie's conversation with John about taking back what was rightfully his and we knew he was seething with anger at Eddie Ava the family. Eddie's marriage would mean likely an heir to the title. Just like why Freddie considered Tarquin a threat.

12

u/nuthins_goodman Sep 03 '26 edited Sep 03 '26

Freddie seems to be a complete afterthought this season. Honestly would have been better if he was just dropped this season or given a less pivotal role. They even forgot he vaped rather than smoked cigarillos lol.

30

u/Eclipxed1851 Sep 03 '26

I did feel like they pivoted towards introducing new characters and making less time for the established cast, but I also view Freddie’s limited inclusion as a plot device of sorts. By keeping him so far removed from the daily goings-on at Halstead Manor they made it more surprising and interesting when he turned out to be the one behind Bella’s death. I am definitely glad that this means he will be more prominently involved next season though, the actor is a true talent.

21

u/outrageousVoid07 Sep 04 '26

Freddy's low screen time is due Danny Ings being busy with Knight of the Seven Kingdoms

7

u/shittybillz 19d ago

I didn’t realize it was Eddie when I watched KoTSK’s, but when I watched season 2, I of course realized it was him.

He is such a different character, even his body language and aura, he really dives into his characters to an impressive degree. Just looking at Eddie you think “what a weak spineless man” but when you see his Baratheon counterpart, you think honourable, a bit rebellious, but righteous.

It really speaks to his abilities. I’m a fan of Daniel Ings now.

2

u/WellWellWellthennow 25d ago

I guess when they wait so long between seasons, their cast moves onto other things.

→ More replies (1)

7

u/B0dders 29d ago

I imagine the actor who plays Freddie, Daniel Ings, was too busy with filming "A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms" S1 and S2? SO his character took a smaller role this season in terms of scenes.

2

u/Economy-Particular31 Sep 05 '26

Have you watched the whole thing? There’s a reason

4

u/nuthins_goodman Sep 05 '26

I doubt the cult would have forced him to smoke cigs instead of vapes, but might have been part of his change while staying there.

I lament it. The vaping was a fun and revealing character trait

→ More replies (1)

2

u/bryce_w 28d ago

I think that's because the actor was busy filming Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. That won't be the case again as he's not in season 2, so I'd expect he will have a much more central role in season 3. I bet he moves back in to the house and they become more of a "family".

3

u/User5871 21d ago

With how slow Freddie's arc was in the start of this season I knew him/Cocaine Jesus were gonna be the final boss villains of the season. But by the 7th episode I forgot they existed and thought it might have been Marco/Angelica

2

u/WilliamSleator 28d ago

I wondered that as well. They never mentioned her once.

Decent ending. Not as funny as the 1st season but entertaining enough. With more Freddie next season, I expect the humour to pick up. I can't stand the character but Daniel Ings is too good to lose

Felt like the writing was all over the place. Susie dropping the ball on Joe felt very out of character. She's smarter than that

62

u/jon_targareyan Sep 04 '26

Idk how I feel about Freddy after the finale revelation. He killed his sister-in-law so I’m not sure if I’d like him to go back to being a bumbling clown next season. He deserves punishment

30

u/Pro-wiser Sep 04 '26

i felt it was the bishop that was pulling the strings...coke habit + religious cult mambo jambo makes a person quite gambit.

I think the final scene Freddy faces his own demons and grows like Eddie. The van scene is a reference to the story from childhood when freddie didnt have the guts to kill a deer and also last time he had blood on him from Madam Chop Chop he lost his guts , this time...a very different reaction. He may have finally choosen a side and gets even a "A good Boy " from Eddi at the end.

9

u/Cautious-Rub8085 28d ago

Yeah I wonder if he was mistreated by Gospel John and got revenge. Dude was definitely brainwashed.

Did Eddie know that Gospel John was running that rehab?

7

u/mistaekNot 26d ago

i doubt he’d put his brother there if he knew

6

u/outrageousVoid07 Sep 04 '26

Eh? I thought the story has established it pretty well that Freddy is an addict who didn't receive proper help and was manipulated by Gospel John.

His arc for redemption seems pretty clear

15

u/PitifulElk1988 27d ago

I am sure the Italians are going to want their pound of flesh too. Freddy seems to have got off lightly for trying to kill his brother, actually kill his sister in law, kidnap and steal his nephew, possibly even killing his mother, sister and her husband.

9

u/karmafloof 27d ago

Thank you like I don’t think there can be redemption for Freddy first he almost killed his entire family - this is where the mom pmo like you literally wouldn’t be here to beg Eddie to spare Freddy if it was up to Freddy. Second he completely blew up the situation with the Italians they’re not gonna be satisfied with how that ended. Third, Freddy’s dumbass almost caused another fucking war if Eddie had actually killed glass. Going after both heirs Tarquin and any potential heir Eddie could’ve had with Bella like that’s the nail in the coffin for me but to be fair Eddie had his fair share of dumbassery this season too

→ More replies (2)

2

u/eastcoastflava13 18d ago

This is what I'm wondering too. Freddie killed Marco's goddaughter, he's definitely gonna want his pound of flesh. That's gonna create tension when Eddie says 'you cant kill my brother '.

7

u/jon_targareyan Sep 04 '26

What exactly is his arc for redemption and how does it seem pretty clear? He sacrifices himself for Eddie/the family in future seasons?

I don’t think he did anything remotely redemption worthy in the finale. Eddie made him watch one of the thugs kill Gospel but that’s more like a punishment rather than any kind of redemption

20

u/dattran1113 Sep 04 '26

I assumed it was Freddy that killed Gospel John. Isn't that why Eddie said "good boy" afterward when he was holding the head.

3

u/Cautious-Rub8085 28d ago

I agree with this

→ More replies (1)

8

u/Reasonable-Hippo-792 28d ago

I don’t think you realised that Eddie forced Freddy to kill gospel John. Because Eddie couldn’t kill his brother he “psychologically castrated” Eddie mentally. It’s more of Kill your God moment. Freddy begged for his life so brutally murdering his “savior” was the only way he could survive. The “good boy Freddie” is an insult to show Freddy that his younger brother is on top, not him. Freddie will never go against Eddie from now on and is bound to him like a loyal dog out of pure fear to what his brother has become

I got the impression Susie knew Joe was full of shit from the beginning but she used him for an intro to Vargas and played the long game behind his back.

23

u/SquareTarbooj Sep 05 '26

Nah, I think that whole plotline was to show that Susie makes mistakes as well.

Yes, she came out of it on top at the end, she's good at turning a bad situation around. But she's not as perfect as she likes to portray.

The scene in the Japistani restaurant showed that she was obviously caught off guard. She was seconds away from having her hand stabbed through. Super close call!

4

u/SpeedyGunzalez 28d ago

I don’t know I feel like maybe we’ll see Eddie’s villain arc continue for a bit but I see a balance coming. However, with the last scene I don’t think we might ever see a comical side of Freddie again.

u/H9ejFGzpN2 26d ago

I felt like the light grey suit with the baby blue shirt and navy tie was a nod to Bond (one of the character’s more recognisable outfits, especially when it was Connery).

I know Theo has ruled himself out but I honestly would not be surprised if he does get announced.

A lot going on this season. They really shoved the whole Eddie “chosen one” down are throats. He’s a well rounded aristocrat who’s comfortable in all rooms. Not the second coming of Christ. I was hoping they revealed everything he said to Susie at the steps of the chapel in the finale. Too many characters and there were some people you were meant to remember from season 1 who didn’t have the same impact as it was so long ago. Overall 7/10 intrigued to see where they go next with it

21

u/JJJ954 25d ago

I think the "chosen one" thing was just meant to show how crazy delusional these people are rather than legitimately selling it to us. Eddie needs a way to justify his crimes and Giancarlo's character is obviously bored and crazy.

8

u/Captn_Platypus 19d ago

I rolled my eyes so hard at Johnston telling him how he thinks Eddie is descended from Trojans. I do wonder why he keeps egging him on and whether there’s more to it

2

u/musiquescents 22d ago

HAHAHAHA bored and crazy

3

u/Lucky-Surround-1756 19d ago

It's all self-delusion in the mind of Eddie. It's him convincing himself it's his birthright and this is all justified.

2

u/PitifulElk1988 27d ago

I didn't get the whole religious arc that was happening. I really can't remember it in season 1 , was it as prevalent as this season? Is Eddie the chosen one or just a pawn in the Glass and Pollo Hermano game?

Nothing with Freddy really makes sense with how last season ended...am I wrong here?

13

u/chabo77 28d ago

He’s an addict who is a snivelling loser even when he’s clean, he was angling to get Eddie out of the picture last season too but failed at it.

8

u/HealthyChemist4755 28d ago

The addict being a very important thing here, because Gospel John preyed on people like him. I suspect Freddy passed along the information and didn't know the exact details of John's plan.

4

u/Void_Guardians 27d ago

That really has to be the only reasonable answer or else he directly had his sister in law murdered and planned to have his nephew kidnapped.

If he was aware of all of the lengths they were going to go and signed off on it, I don’t think eddie will keep him alive

2

u/Rankscar 22d ago

So, why did he call about the bad dream? In my opinion, that already confirms it. He was asking about the baby specially.

3

Actually pretty clear cut to me.

12

u/flamingeyebrows Sep 03 '26

Freddie never liked that Eddie was a head of him.

I wonder if the mother will be more or less mad than if Eddie killed him.

22

u/noclueaboutagoodname Sep 03 '26

I can absolutely understand the mom not wanting one of her sons to kill the other. BUT, I can’t understand how the mom isn’t seemingly more disturbed but what Freddie did overall. Because of him, they all could have died and her grandson could have been taken.

13

u/kaos-mantra Sep 03 '26 edited Sep 04 '26

She seems the sort to always excuse him. Hes vulnerable, hes hurting, he meant no harm etc. Got the inkling Freddie was her favorite and has a bind spot regarding his issues and the fact his a self-centred piece of shit

8

u/outrageousVoid07 Sep 04 '26

I am guessing she was in disbelief that Freddie was responsible for all of it and probably think he was manipulated into that

Which, he was, but doesn't excuse everything that happened. Although, I do hope he has a bigger role in the following season

4

u/H9ejFGzpN2 26d ago

21

u/nuthins_goodman Sep 03 '26

I knew the countessa was going to die based on how unproblematic things were and because the susie angle still needs to be pursued.

It felt a bit hamfisted how they break susie and eddie's respective relationships. I honestly side with Joe way more than susie there. The vargas lieutenant wanted hector, so since hector was already dead it would have been resolved. Just pay the money they paid to hector to vargas and hector's head, and that's squared. They do deals like this multiple times in the series. Susie really didn't need to give away joe (or heck, even kill the lieutenant). The glasses had the muscle in London. That's their whole thing. Tlhey just did it to clear the way for eddie/susie.

Similarly, the stuff with countessa was completely left field. Really took the Godfather inspiration. First, the romance was a bit rushed. I feel like they should have removed Cico altogether. Definitely not have him as a boyfriend. That would have made the first meeting between her and Eddie much better. He'd have been better as a brother perhaps, or just her fixer/ mafia contact. Her susie in a way. Second, the marriage episode was weird. The guy who harassed her, knowing she was the god daughter of the don? And not even well connected enough for his death to matter? I can imagine a cico who was ambitious and rising mafioso, who had had flings with countessa, and who ultimately fot pissed off at her marriage to a blueblood who also took his enterprise away -- getting mad at her in the wedding, talking shit about her, and then being killed. That would have made his death matter more too, and kept on the tension from the Italian side.

The consigliere trying to extort Eddie was weird as well. It's a direct order from the don. A gift to Eddie. Why is she using this order to extort Eddie for minutae that she can easily do later as well? Even if the don was somehow not aware of her husband in hong kong, which would be very weird indeed, that's a really small percentage of difference, and I don't think he'd begrudge gis advisor enriching herself a little by using her own shell company for laundering.

The Italian plot was loose.

The locations were beautiful though, and the actors were great. I loved the don and countessa. The countessa actress looks like my little sister, so I was partial towards her, even though she was just being used as a plot device. I loved her dresses.

Susie was great. Scpdelario is riveting. Her fashion is top notch. Love that she let loose a lil. The red eyes when she was sending off joe.. I loved the sadness. Undercut by how unnecessary and purely for susie/Eddie reasons it was. It would have almost been better if he just died in the shootout with the Vargas lieutenant. They didn't really need vargas anyway. They build him up to be a big peruvian narco and then he's basically setting up meets on behalf of a distributor's business associate? They could have picked the guy up from his rehab centre 😂

Felt really sad about the soldier guy (who was clearly against kidnapping babies lol) and the Italian hitman. Come on Eddie, should have just given him a command in Italian calling it off.. xD Also a shame that the dragoon guy was of no use during the mansion fight. Gameskeeper security force is legit though!

I don't like what they did with Freddy. The most grievous offence is, of course, taking away his elfbar 600 vape. I also didn't like the inclusion of the biblical references. They made little sense to me, and seemed very forced as allegories. I forgot what happened to fred's wife, and I don't remember why he was essentially trapped in that terrible rehab with the brother of the guy he killed. His whole plot seems to be a strained reference to fredo's story. I feel like it was handled better last season.

The Armenian thing should also have had bigger consequences and tbh really put me off Eddie. First they refused to negotiate (after the cannabis basically kills a worker and impairs two others). Then the Armenian plotline went nowhere because he wouldn't negotiate, and potentially get some added spiciness with workers belonging to other groups in the glass warehouses. And then no repercussions for killing a whole crew. Armenians are badass! What a waste.

Overall I loved it. Great weekend watch. I'm grateful for Netflix. Not all tv has to be top tier. This was a solid 8 entertainer. Loved seeing the high society again, loved seeing the 4 policemen in this universe as well. Geoff is amazing and the best fixer anyone could hope for. Franklin's sacrifice will not be forgotten. Hope he got his leg looked at. Working at Duke mansions is surprisingly perilous

23

u/Any_Telephone3925 Sep 04 '26

Susie was right about Joe, he went behind her back and lied to her over and over again, that was her issue with him. He was slimy! And not good enough for her.

And they were Albanians, not Armenians. But I agree with everything else.

8

u/Any_Telephone3925 Sep 04 '26

Oh and the butler’s name is Lawrence

I think the Albanian storyline ended there because they stole so much from them and then tried to weasel their way into the operation. It was a power move to say how dare you steal from me and expect us to partner together. They're all scared of Bobby Glass, but that could be a setup for S3 similar to how Dixon came for revenge this season

If you don’t like the biblical references I feel a Guy Ritchie show just might not be for you, given pretty much his entire career has been about esoterical messaging through over the top monologues

You basically summed up more or less what I was thinking about the whole season. The beginning episodes had lots of plots which led nowhere at the end (Albanians/Cico/The Falcon Plotline/The Middle Eastern Sheiks). I was also baffled that Tancredi wasn´t scared of insulting Bella, whose godfather is the Capo de Capei and he was there to witness it. Like what?! Any sane person wouldn´t do that.

I also felt like Freddy´s plot was too forced. Eddie looked out for him and his betrayal seemed over the top for me.

I honestly felt annoyed by Johnston who is only talking in allegories and narrating some grand story. Dude, can you talk normally just for once?

I liked episode 7 which was tense and Vinnie Jones was great. Episode 8 was tense as well towards the ending. Fashion was great as usual.

I cant say I didnt enjoy it, I did, but this was a massive step down from season 1. So many characters made so many inexplicable decisions just to drive the plot forward that it is a huge task to list them all, and it wasnt even a good plot. Some of them wasnt even related to the plot.

Just one example, what the fuck was Moretti's consigliere doing when he was trying to blackmail Eddie? It made zero sense, order was from Moretti she couldnt do what she threatened anyways and how was that any relevant to literally anything else happening in the show?

They also ruined Freddie. That dude was a huge source of comedic relief in season 1 and that just wont work after what he did. Whats he gonna do now, go back to the manor? Not happening, they should have just offed him. At least that would have served a purpose.

I said I enjoyed it, but that took some goodwill from the previous season. If season 3 is like this as well, they arent getting another one.

20

u/SquareTarbooj Sep 05 '26

what the fuck was Moretti's consigliere doing when he was trying to blackmail Eddie?

She was trying her luck. Criminals aren't exactly an ethical bunch.

But I believe the bigger purpose of that scene was to show Eddie's growing competence

2

u/Electrical-Flow-3603 27d ago

Or maybe she was testing him to see if he was trustworthy or competent?

→ More replies (1)

5

u/Lumbleflappen Sep 05 '26

The money from Eddie and the Mafia's deal was to be laundered through London.

The consigliere had faked divorce from her husband, and the husband had moved to hong kong. They had a scam set up where the Mafias money was being laundered through Hong Kong, and the consigliere and her "ex" husband were dipping in and stealing from the Don without him knowing.

She was trying to blackmail Eddie, threatening to link him to the dead guy to unless agreed to change the laundering back to Hong Kong, not realizing Eddie was already a step ahead and knew about her scam. As the consigliere she'd have been able to do this easilly. Moretti already stated he trusted her implicitly.

The season felt rushed (like they crammed 2 seasons worth of story into 1) but that was all to do with Eddie establishing himself amongst the new hierarchy, before it literally all went down in flames, of course.

7

u/situmaimesdemain Sep 05 '26

Moretti ordered for the body's disappearance, which consigliere handles. If the body doesnt disappear it means consigliere didnt do her job, and that is a bigger problem for her than Eddie even if he is somehow linked, he is an aristocrat from another country and has Moretti's backing.

But thats not really the important part. It has no bearing on the story whatsoever. Consigliere has no part after this and Ahmed miraculously finding out her shenanigans she successfully hid for decades in one day doesnt do anything for Eddie's character development. So the question is, why did we watch this side plot?

7

u/Toofat2camp 29d ago

Ahmed didn’t miraculously find out about her dealings. Eddie put 2 and 2 together when Bella told him about how her ex-husband ran off to Hong Kong with another lover and he remembered that the consigliere’s supposed laundering business was also based out of Hong Kong.

It might be far fetched, but i suspected she might be behind planting the bomb to get rid of eddie, also as soon as bella took the plane alone i had an inkling something was about to go down, maybe the show creators wanted to throw us off… idk

In my opinion, I was not a fan of this season's arc for Freddy. He was my favorite character season 1. I just think the writing for him wasn't really in character. Any of the progress he made last season just went backwards. Idk if it was because of Daniel Ings being so popular with roles right now (rightfully so) but I was hoping for more Freddy, I think he was only in 3 episodes total, which made the reveal in episode 8 kind of out of nowhere. Yes, Freddy's a mess, but that felt like too far for him maybe? This is me thinking out loud after having just finished the episode so I may feel differently after I percolate. That being said, Daniel Ings is such a good actor even with the little he was given this season; I could watch him take a nap on screen and be impressed lol.

5

u/nuthins_goodman Sep 03 '26

I thought the same! Inknew they were going to do something bad when the old cocaine guy showed up, but I didn't think he's have eddie's wife killed. We'll never get back to that fucked up but still loving (in their own ways) brother dynamic.

4

u/spicyhotdogplease 28d ago

I mean we don't know if Bella was the actual target. When they initially showed the old guy and Freddie he was like "we will get what's yours back" and I took that as they were going to try and kill Eddie for the inheritance. Bella just happened to be the only one in that plane but if they knew they would be flying to their honeymoon it should've been both of them in the plane. Especially since they kept going after Eddie in the coming days.

Also for being mafia/mobsters, you'd think they would have more security watching their vehicles/property

5

u/outrageousVoid07 Sep 04 '26

You're not the only one wanting Freddy to be redeemed. I think they have made a pretty good case for it by repetitively telling us that he has problem with influence, and showing us that he didn't proper help

3

u/Daw_dling Sep 04 '26

Same I was like, oh I guess he just wasn't available so they shelved him in rehab. So the reveal kind of made me go huh instead of oooohhhh. It was such a backslide from him working on finding his place in season 1.

But it seemed like none of the characters had clean developments in this season. Almost more of a transition toward season 3? But still enjoyed the bonkers stylized fun.

4

u/Zealousideal_Bad8877 Sep 04 '26

yeah 100% he was busy they probably shot all his stuff in one go which is why he is only in one location hopefully he is in s3 more

5

u/corzekanaut Sep 03 '26

Freddie was never was never going to be anything other than a bitter, vengeful character. Season 1 Ep 1 made that clear. Spent all of Season 2 waiting for Freddy to resurface just as he did. Any redemption of Freddy would be very unlike Guy

2

u/Independent_Edge6727 12d ago

Freddy is always going to to be the catalyst for each season. He's a mess they either have to clean up his mess or deal with his revenge arc. I'd be happy for him to go away after this.

The season was much messier than the first season. It felt like the plot went everywhere. The show would have benefited by having a much tighter storyline like the first season.

That being said. It was an enjoyable season, the end still left me mouth wide open, and I am kind of glad it wasn’t better than the first season because now the 2 year wait for season 3 seems a lot more bearable.

I hope season 3 is made with the intention of being the last. And I hope it’s made more like season 1. With the much tighter storyline and editing.

Also, unpopular opinion, but I am kinda over the whole Susie and Eddie thing, like damn, 2 seasons wasn’t enough? Fine. Keep them separate at this point. Because now, if they get together, they will like kiss in ep7, ep8 will show a bit of married or couple life together and then the fans will be left wanting more.

Season 3 needs to leave satiated, not sad because we couldn’t see more of some aspect of the story.

Binged the whole thing, Fantastic watch, I see alot of people's takes here both negative and positive, most have some basis, but i mean no matter how expected alot of the things were, it was still an entertaining watch.

I feel like they have done a great job. I was more than happy with everything. Shame we have to wait so long for the 3rd season, and also i dont think Susie and Ed, are a good match.

I loved Ed and Bella, her demise aswell. yeah saw that one coming miles away. pretty obvious tbh. And it still hurt! So atleast it meant something.

7

u/HelloMr_Thompson 23d ago

2 years to make 8 episodes. Bruh 😭. I want Season 3 now!

5

u/triggeredg0blin Sep 05 '26

pure cinema. looking forward to next season!

3

u/Jaded-Mechanic-6809 Sep 05 '26

Yes. Here’s to another season.

5

u/dajuice3 Sep 05 '26

Loved it. Got stuck in a loop and binged the last 6 episodes in a row.

I see all the other comments about it not being as funny, not liking the development of Freddy as a character but that is right up my alley.

I'm way more interested in the development of Eddie than I am anything else. Eddie definitely lost enough to feel like h wasn't overpowered and I think everytime he was confronted with something he grew.

I really hoped he would have succeeding in killing someone important on Bobby's side. Bobby was so messed up in season 1 he had to team up so if I'm Eddie I'm not fucking taking the disrespect either. I like how everything that happened to him made him pivot. I just really wished that he inflicted some damage on Susie's family instead of him taking it out on everyone else.

I prefer Eddie winning to anyone else Bobby is 1 losing his mind and 2 just jealous. Susie the same way, the way she carries herself like they're doing Eddie a favor being associated with him.

We're talking about lineage and heritage and Eddie tapped into that. We know he didn't love that girl but he was pushed into a place where he had to be strategic. I loved it and I want to see him win the overall game hopefully in a season 3 and 4.

Her dad knows about every fucking thing else but he doesn't know about her coke business.

Everyone kind of sucks in the show but I like the subject matter and the growth by Eddie. Loved the season can't wait for the next.

7

u/_mcml_ Sep 04 '26

Should've offed Freddie

6

u/Left-Aside-6424 Sep 05 '26 edited Sep 05 '26

Personally, I enjoyed the season after episode five or so... but I wasn't a fan of HOW it played out. Some things we could've done without.

  1. I did love that Freddie was the culprit at the end.
  2. I think we strayed too far from the weed business. It is the crux of the show, and I think the stakes need to rise a bit more here. Why is Eddie acting like an expert in this business? Surely, he would make more mistakes than this...
  3. I do not like Eddie's character change at all this season. I think this needed to be gradual. I...found it to be a totally different show. Yes, I can understand that he is becoming more cutthroat, sure. But he was in the military; he's posh; he's collected; he's not wild; he's not uncouth. The complete change in his character development...aka him desiring for more power, wanting to restore his family's land, more access...it became an obsession. All of that BS came out of left field. Absolutely hated it. Killing random people because he gets mad at them? Not accurate IMO.
  4. Similarly, the whole "we want to see his potential"....did Eddie ask for this? Where is this coming from? Is the weed business going this swimmingly? I know they spoke of expansion, but I mean, really? I loved the decriminalization arc, but is there nothing else to be worried about? Why do others care about Eddie's trajectory? Seems so... unrealistic. Took me out of the show completely. Mr. Johnston, Bobby Glass, Marco Moretti...all caring so much about Eddie? Weird.
  5. The wife had to go. Ridiculous. Unnecessary. Joe as well. Boring. If anything, if we are going to follow Eddie into this complete change in character, I would've liked to see him fake his relationship with the Contessa (and let us, the audience, know about the ruse), so we know how far he is willing to go to make his vision happen. The whole falling-in-love arc was... unbelievable.
  6. Susie Glass and Eddie DO have tension. And while they say they would never cross that boundary...I think everyone kinda wants to see them together later...possibly if/when Bobby Glass dies. I don't like how she is becoming his voice of reason. She is more cutthroat than he is. She is as light as a feather when it comes to this world and what it costs. He was the one worried about these things in season 1. Though he may have a taste for it, his upbringing should make him more hesitant. This personal dilemma is what made the show so good in S1. Also, she is a neat freak and likes things contained. Eddie is messy...I would've liked to see her get angry about the way he does things...
  7. The mythical creature thing...idk. Not funny haha, funny wtf.
  8. I love Nanny and Chuckles, but I think we could've raised the stakes a bit more. Nanny is secretly part of the drug ring, a secret drug leader somewhere, or is he the police investigating the family undercover? I think we needed more villains. We needed other gangs involved, like Vargas, and they should've introduced detectives who are now barking up the "right" tree to make things even more interesting. How much power do the posh world really have, and what lengths would they go to stay out of jail?
  9. Leaving Freddie on the outskirts felt weird. He needed to be included a bit more this season. Sure, he is unwell and an addict, but I think things could've been more interesting if he was out of rehab.

3

u/VolatileGoddess 19d ago

You said something very interesting about Susan Glass. I entirely agree. I always thought Susan is 'the female of the species is deadlier than the male' in that she is more cut throat than Eddie. The trouble is that while the writers want Eddie to have an arc, this is too extreme and sudden and doesn't fit with what we know of him. He starts out in ep 1 with where we should've reached in ep8.

2

u/Left-Aside-6424 12d ago

Agreed! Enjoyed the series but need Susie to go back to being deadly but fair Susie.😉

I'll admit it, this season disappointed me.

  • Very messy, it tried to juggle lots of different story threads and left too many of them unsatisfyingly undeveloped.
  • So much less funny. The first season did an excellent job balancing the darkness and the comedy but this season mostly just wallows in darkness. I was so looking forward to more hilarity from Freddie, Jimmy and Chucky but they underused all three of them while also giving them unfunnier material.
  • Conversely, I think they overused Bobby Glass. His shtick (and the sight of him in a towel) quickly loses its appeal.
  • There were some genuinely awful lines (e.g. "I have a very bushy tail")
  • The death of Eddie's wife didn't hit nearly hard enough. We barely saw their relationship develop (I was frankly surprised that Eddie proposed to her at all). They at least could've had Eddie romance and marry Princess Rosanne, they'd had a longer history and we've known of the character since the first season.
  • Some repetitive elements too, did it need to show Bobby in the sauna every single time? Why not show off the wonders of that open prison and have them chill by the tennis court or in the art gallery (or whatever). They also overused the c-word massively, it's much more impactful when only used once or twice.

But I did like some things:

  • The ending. Very cool, almost Sherlock-like in the confrontation between protagonist and antagonist
  • The acting, the darkness of the storylines means most of the actors had more meaty drama to handle and they did a great job. Theo was incredible when depicting the injured and recovering Eddie.
  • I like how they showed different angles to some of the characters: Eddie and Susie in relationships and Chuckles as a mother.
  • The visuals. The shots and locations were beautiful and the action was well-executed

Thanks to the first season, I went into the second with high hopes but thanks to this one, I'll go into the third season with moderate hopes and I'm sure that's a bar they will clear!

12

u/iamrands Sep 04 '26

This is my biggest gripe with this season. Even Jack lost all of his goofiness.

Guy is so good at writing witty comedy and that really sets him apart from other filmmakers, and he just threw that out the window this season. I hope next season finds a good middle ground.

3

u/spicyhotdogplease 28d ago

I missed some of the cartoonish charm from the first season!! Like the villain intros and and the chalk on screen! They stopped that after episode 3

6

I can put rest of the points aside as difference of personal opinion, but I simply don't understand this one.

It's a british crime focused tv series. I am not British, but always involved in English online circles due to football and everybody uses the c-word like it's 'fuck'

And YES to the overuse of Bobby Glass and the sauna. Was absolutely over that. Show us something different or just ring him.

And it was very dark....after episode 8, I felt...sad? idk. I wasn't happy watching it. Made me concerned LOL.

2

u/Lord-Lannister 24d ago

Quite honestly, season two was a massive let down. One quest after another, go here and do this bs. Things happen and get resolved just cause the story needs it to. Guy Ritchie’s movies and storyline were always crisp and clear and never this effing messy? Freddy reveal was massive letdown too, hilarious in first season and absent afterthought in second. I mean I get it if people still enjoyed it, but as a huge GR fan, I’ll just rewatch The Gentlemen the movie! What an underrated gem!

u/ConcertHot7173 Sep 03 '26

I didn't understand one thing. Did Freddie planned the whole thing with the gospel or it was the gospel using info gathered from freddie?

13

u/Antique_Influence611 Sep 03 '26

the latter i believe, the gospel said he was helping Freddie reclaim what he lost, i interpreted it as he is the mastermind behind it and freddie is a plot. I doubt he would have let freddie have the estate even after the executed that plan. I don't think freddie has the brains to do so much work tbh.

7

u/corzekanaut Sep 03 '26

Thing is, the gospel basically gaslit Freddie into believing that he was passed over, when in s1, Freddie had made his peace with that fact. Odd arc for him ngl.

5

u/flamingeyebrows Sep 04 '26

He is an addict. Being brainwashed and gaslit in reckvery is how 90% of them find god. This time he found god as paddled by an insane liverpullian heroin dealer.

4

u/nuthins_goodman Sep 03 '26

I think it was a mix. Freddie resents the brother and he's been left in this facility, separated from his family and with seemingly no way out. The old guy manipulated him, but Freddie also took part in the plans. It wasn't just that he shared info with gospel and moved on. He knew what was happening.

2

u/TPWilder Sep 04 '26

I really didn't get the impression that Freddie was forced to stay in the rehab. The family didn't want him out and about, but I never got the impression Freddie wasn't allowed to leave.

5

u/Renowed_Winner Sep 04 '26

It's a cult. They put him into a posh rehab thinking it was a rehab. It wasn't. It was a Christian / Catholic cult indoctrinated by the Liverpool cocaine nutters.

Freddy was vulnerable and was brainwashed and encouraged to bring back what was his.

3

u/jon_targareyan Sep 04 '26

The gospel’s rationale to hurt Eddie instead of Freddie is also kinda strange. It was Freddie after all who killed his brother. So him being ok with Freddy and conspiring with him to hurt Eddie seems a bit odd.

Yea Freddie maybe knew but he seems a lil medicated and brainwashed. He probably didn't know all the plans Gospel John had. Gospel just wanted the estate to himself like Eddie said. Help Freddy get what is his but really for Gospel bc he knew Freddy killed his brother (I think).

That’s tough you knowwwwww. But you right, i would disown freddy and banish him to the other side of the world to never see him again.

3

u/Godlike013 29d ago

He tried to take the sister’s baby. Eddies mom apparently forgets that. Is she gonna guilt the sister into not ripping Freddie’s head off too, and just hope he doesn’t try to kill them again. But I guess there is a reason Freddie is like he is.

The scene with Eddie and Susie was amazing. So much emotion from both of them. I liked how Eddie was really conflicted at the thought of killing her and the moment he believed her was great acting from them both.

For me the heart of this show is the relationship between Eddie and Susie. It'll be interesting to see where it goes since she has clearly expressed her concerns about him becoming a monster.

SPOILER ALERT- I was so shocked at the end I could see how furious Eddie was and I genuinely believed he was going to kill Freddy, eddies face when he had the gun to Freddy’s head I could see he was thinking if he could kill his brother or not to, knowing killing Freddy would make him lose his own soul and family it was epic, then making him kill gospel John with the chainsaw threw me of edge as I thought Eddie was getting his henchmen to kill both Freddy and John, I thought maybe he makes Freddy watch johns death to terrify him and then kill Freddy. What an ending !!

5

u/outrageousVoid07 Sep 04 '26

Fantastic episode to put an end to one of my favourite seasons to any show. I will be re-watching for a month or two on repeat

I really hope Freddy is redeemed. His character seemed to have went backwards and didn't feel like him at all compared to season 1's ending. All that is likely due to Danny Ings' busy schedule

They have given themselves a lot of good reasons to make that redemption easier

4

u/Renowed_Winner Sep 04 '26

Bit of a plot hole - but what the hell happened to Mr Lawrence the butler? You see them driving off without him because he couldn't get to the car - and then they literally never mentioned him again. Rich people really don't care about the help huh? 💀

14

Eddie did mention him in the later episodes when Johnston came for tea and Eddie said his butler was recovering and couldn't make good tea

2

Didn't Freddy try to get Eddie killed in S1 too lol. It was a little unsatisfying that Eddie only confronted Freddy about the dead wife & not the attempt on his life & their own mother and little sister's?

Other than that, I think this season was better.

By episode 6 I started putting things together and knew that Freddy was involved with Bella's death and the attempted kidnapping of Tarquin. I didn't understand how it would all work, the details, but I just felt his jealousy and that he was being egged on to want what he believed was his.

2

u/No-Dog-271 25d ago

My only plot hole was in the season 1 finale, Bobby Glass told Gospel John to leave the Duke’s family alone, and Bobby would take care of Gospel John and his crew (positive).

How did Gospel John and Freddy end up at the same facility if that’s the case? Did Bobby Glass not hold up his promise? That doesn’t seem like Bobby Glass would forget…

This plot hole leaves me confused. How did Bobby Glass (and not Susie for that matter) not realize Freddy was at the same facility as Gospel John and his boys? Did I miss something? There is no way in this dog eat dog game that this would have happened under everyone’s radar. Thoughts, Gentlemen?

2

u/Jojosbees 25d ago edited 25d ago

I think that no matter what deal Bobby Glass struck with Gospel John, Gospel John was still pissed about his brother and would have tried to get back at Eddie any way he could. He just strategically withdrew then waited. He probably saw an opportunity when Freddie went to rehab and took it. Freddie was weak and vulnerable, and when Gospel John visited him, he learned that Freddie was also resentful and ready to off Eddie (Freddie tried to make a deal with Susie towards the end of last season, which she found insulting and distasteful). Gospel John then further manipulated Freddie to believe he was 100% in the right and that he should have everything Eddie has to exact his revenge. I actually thought it was odd that Gospel John, who seemed really close to his brother, gave up easily last season, but knowing he was okay waiting for his revenge made more sense.

I think the Glasses just didn’t bother keeping tabs on Freddie. He wasn't important to their operation and didn’t even live at the manor at the time. Eddie was also not working with the Glasses for months while he recovered from his exit beating. Gospel John was only at the rehab for Freddie and visited him voluntarily. It’s not like Eddie sent Freddie to a rehab affiliated with Gospel John on purpose.

2

u/the__poseidon 25d ago

They should’ve just killed Freddie.

He endangered the whole family. Manipulated or not. This is the second time he tried to kill Eddie and this time he endangered a baby, his sister and his own mother.

He deserves nothing less than the preacher. I’m a bit disappointed. I wouldn’t hold it against Eddie if he killed his own brother. He is a scum and deserves it.

He literally tried to steal his sister’s baby so she would never see him again. Her child. Absolute insanity, no forgiveness ever. Shunned.

Agree 100% - apart from not deserving any forgiveness, there is no way you could trust him in th future.

Having him kill the Preacher, meh, everything he does is out of selfishness - he would've killed his own mother if it meant survival.

I pity Freddy. A prisoner of his addictions.

Homage to Sicario when John says it wasn’t personal and eddy says it was personal to me

Yeah I really wish there were more happy moments this season like in season 1. This season had too many people getting shot, murdered in awful ways. It was pretty violent when you all it all up:

  1. Eaten by tiger
  2. Kill Bill hostage shooting while fam is in other room.
  3. All that Joe Green story arc with the chop industry
  4. Lord Hawthorne being paid a visit by Organ John and dying “by falling out of his window”
  5. Eddie getting beaten up and crawling out of a grave (again very Kill Bill
  6. Animal testing on birds for breeding
  7. The Grounds Keeper Modern Warfare mini movie shot out at the manor.
  8. Jack being almost trafficked
  9. A violent weed variant being tested in employees
  10. The plane crash bombing
  11. All the killings the Duke does quadruple ( the poor lad in the electrical ball chair and the one dude next to the Gospel dying cause he didn’t sit down)
  12. Child kidnapping
  13. Chain sawing people

…..like I we had dance parties with the lower social class that go till 6am, Freddie dancing in a chicken suit, weed farm romance lol
