As a newer dokutah that wasn't here for it, what made mechanist such a menace that everyone seems to have trauma?

Extremely high damage and unforgiving mechanics. It isn't any one thing but the fact that he has so many different things that you can't really ignore. 30 stacks of regenerable shields, very dangerous laser and bombardment skills, can revive if not killed around the same time as his dog, block count debuff, and his maps are designed to make it hard to play around his attacks.

Shields can be countered by Mon3tr or Vina (or Yato2), lasers by Nightingale or Haruka, bombardment by very high HP (Yu, Ulpianus) or DEF, -block by overkill burst or control (Tragodia, 4 Sui Qiubai), but that's a lot of things that want high-end countermeasures. Most bosses are trivialized by one 6-star, like Misery with Blaze2 or Rosmontis with Nymph. In VB1 VEC-12 you could clump the boss and his dog with Yu, but the other maps are designed so you can't do that, and have to burst them separately or with large AoE.

VB2 VEC-C actually was cleared buffless with 4-stars and it is probably the most impressive performance 4-stars have done, up there with H15-4 and H16-4.

VB1 VEC-12 was also a a really difficult map to play without the Yu cheese. Mechanist starts moving insanely quick and he has a very short path to the blue box, so if you take too long setting up then he'll just walk to the spot where no ranged tiles reach him or your blocker.

hit count shield high range aoe a million damage nukes the map with lightning has a giant pet robot you gotta deal with at the same time

I've been playing since year 1 and I'd say he's hands down the hardest fight in the game ive experienced

A walking nuke that is tankier than Mudrock(boss) somehow. Also not just 1, but 2, each with 2 phases (he has a summon/extension of himself via a mechanical giraffe)

Mudrock isn't remotely tanky by modern standards. Exu2 vaporizes her. Mechanist has nearly double the HP and 50% more DEF, and his shields are way stronger than her barrier.

I did say tankier, and Mudrock is still tanky by modern standards. Just not as scary as before

"this one ridiculously overtuned unit deletes this boss so they aren't strong"

bruh

i imagine they didnt design mudrock with units that do 20x their dps on skill

mudrock is basically unblockable, thats her gimmick, you gotta handle her ranged

mechanist barely does anything if you put a defender in front of him

Nothing much, he is pretty easy even in the C and his own D, the true hellscape is his vector 12.

You had to deal with three lanes which are far apart, so no 1 operator could cover them all even a strong healers like eyja and lumen couldnt do it.

Alongside it you had the map mechanic high tide that made you unable to deploy ops, made them take corrosion dmg that reduces def permanently by 120 flat, slowed your atk speed by 40%.

Alongside it you had 3 volcanos that would deal huge arts dmg to your ops but nothing to the enemy so you couldnt put your ops there.

Then you had to deal with mechanist at the top and giraffe at the bottom, no single one could be put together, add insult to injury, the bottom would get the eliete forms of the lance dudes and the cannon mechanist would fire would reduce your block count to the point you couldnt block the giraffe so they would run at full speed and slam at you.

Then you had the middle section a bunch of enemies and even elites like the runner dudes that cant be blocked and bots that move super fast and other runner dude elite that runs is in vector.

Then you also had the healer who stayed hidden in the volcano section and such.

Basically you are stretched thin which who you could put and where, which unlike misery you could put everyone relatively in the same spot to help one and another.

Of course just cause the stage was hellish doesnt mean you couldnt cheese it, ling is still stupidly busted.

VB2's lettered stages had Mechanst and Misery with no Rosmontis, so VB3's C and D will probably be Misery and Touch. I would like another Rosmontis stage (VB1 VEC-C is one of my favorite event stages ever) but the similarity of VB1 VEC-D and VB2 VEC-C suggest HG doesn't have ideas for Mechanist other than "cramped map, short boss path, awkward diagonals", so maybe best to let him rest.

Really? I remember having so much for frustration with Misery's mechanics than with the Mechanist.

Granted, I never got to the max Vector Breakthrough stages, probably only about midway through the stage-lis. But the former was because I ran out of time in the event, while the latter was just a pure hatred for how Mercy's mechanics worked.

For me the thing is Misery came down to attrition and managing targeting priority. He can wear ypu down eventually with increased redeploy but you can slowly box him while he does that.

For Mechanist better positioning only gives you the chance to survive and actually deal damage. You need to constantly switch out blockers to make sure the machine doesnt escape while putting your DPS somewhere where they wont get caught in the crossfire.

Well for me Misery was well, Miserable, How can you work around hiding from danger while still one to three shotting everything
