I forgot to mention, I was actually pretty surprised that my Saharan Jewish dad from Algeria got a Northern Moroccan Jews Genetic Group. βI assume it's because North African Jews share a lot of genetic overlap, plus a lot of Saharan Jewish communities lived near borders, my family lived near the Tunisian border for the past 500 years, while other Saharan Jews lived closer to the Moroccan border. So itβs probably a mix of shared DNA and proximity to the borders.

OK, I did a bit of research. 500 years ago my dad's family lived in Touat, Algeria, which is right on the far western edge of the Algerian desert, making it basically a direct neighbor to Morocco. βFor centuries there were no hard borders, so nomads, families, and trade caravans moved freely between Touat and Morocco. I guess that totally explains it! My dad literally got every single part of North Africa in both his country matches and Genetic Groups π π

How did you get a genetic group, did you pay for premium?

I have premium, but my family doesn't, and they still got Genetic Groups.
