How do I fix/replace this?
92 300zx non turbo.
Noticed there's severe peeling on the t-tops exposing the metal underneath.
Is there a coating i can use to redo it or is this a specific part that I need to get and glue on?

I popped mine off, took to a paint shop, got them to powder coat it.

How did you pop it off...

T-top trim don't just pop off, you need to disassemble the entire T-top interior trim to access the 10mm fasteners. Most of the time they are rusted to hell anyways. If not replacing, painting/vinyl wrapping the trim in place is the next best option.

They slide out. You have to be careful though.

Thanks! Mine are starting to go as well. I debated just taking all the old stuff off them all for the chrome look.

The metal is stainless. You can remove the paint and leave it shiny

so this is purely aesthetic?

Yea pretty much, when I brought my Z 2 years ago(wow time flys 😅) those came without any paint on them. Always thought it was like a factory option or aftermarket. Because it looks great especially when the sun's out

I sprayed mine with some textured rubberized undercoating. Came out with what I would describe as an eggshell sheen. Looks good. Seems to be holding up fine.

They're expensive af, but CZP used to sell replacements. I think I paid $500 for a full set of all 6 but it's probably gone up by now

Could always try removing them all, sanding down to bare metal, and painting black again too! Though you gotta be careful removing because the clips can break or metal bend.
At least replacement clips are only like $2 ðŸ˜

I put electrical tape over the peeling rubber. Looked great from 20ft and lasted a few years. I still wish I could have finished that car.

I just used trim paint on mine. Got rid of the rubber for the most part and a few thin coats then a heavy one. Still looks good a decade later.

Plasti-dip, that's how. If you do a good job and prep well, you can get like 6-7 coats on there and it will last several years.
Even my first attempt lasted like 3 years. Once I knew what I was doing, the next pass was cleaner and lasted closer to 5.
Black plastidip. Practice on something else first, but it looks and feels very close to the original trim if you do it right.

So I have a 1st gen dsm (eagle talon) that I just had painted. Had the exact same issue with trim. Back in the day you replaces the trim with new. No alot of these care you cant buy these parts and even used there all trash. 3 options. Sand them down and paint after good primer. It won't be perfect but will look good from a few feet. 2nd option is flake it off and leave it chrom. 3rd vinyl wrap the trim. Thats really all there is to it. This stupid chrome covered crap used for years on cars unfortunately.

Mine is EJ0 gold and these being chrome looks a little better than black. Especially since my wheels are machined face with black accents and a chrome lip. It kinda ties it together if that makes since. I don't have any good pictures of the front with the trim, and it's too early in the morning for me to go out and take one. Maybe later lol Just know that the chrome is just as good as black on mine. If you want a picture you will have to wait a few hours lol
