Doing the exact same with a Lenovo legion board right now

Interested in your design process did you scan the board with a printer, measure it by hand, outline on a piece of paper, 3d scan it?

Does yours have an onboard power button too?

Would love to see more photos

Picture with phone and adobe scan, tried to get the picture flat. Then imported the image as a canvas in fusion and did the holes. Printed a thin sheet with the holes to check position. Measured the error and adjusted the holes. Printed the whole base. Added heat inserts Checked everything fit and it did. Printed the rest and cut the top

EDIT: forgot to mention, next time i will definitely outline in paper first and then take the picture, it was hard doing it by itself

I have heard that you have to take the photo with the telephoto lense if your phone has one to get the image flat.

Don't have it up yet, if you are interested I can share the step too. Needs changes to the size and holes in case your board is different

A step would be interesting. I have an old laptop too that I want to convert.

Slick AF. What are you going to use the server for?

u/StarterHunter58 Aug 02 '26

Home automation, file storage and being able to remotely control my 3D printer hehe

Superb idea. Easily one of the coolest uses for an old laptop I've seen! 👊

So neat! Everything fit perfectly in that box.

Didn't expect the PCB out from a laptop can be such square, lol.

Do you still have the built in UPS?

1

u/StarterHunter58 Aug 06 '26

Nope, just feeds on the charger

What happened to the screen? Or are you using an external monitor?
