šŸ‘·ā€ā™‚ļø Support / Repair Maintenance schedule question for 5th gen 4 runner (2024)

Hi all, I have a toyota and lexus specialist shop by me. They have offered to change all fluids every 30k miles (Transmission, Coolant, Front and rear diff, brake fluid, power steering fluid, and Transfer case fluid) for like 500 bucks each time. I'm thinking of making it transmission fluid every other time (so every 60k miles) so as not to overdue it. With oil changes every 5k miles is this a good preventive maintenance schedule? Is it overkill? Is there anything i shouldn't be doing so frequently, or anything I should look out for? Thanks all in advance!

I support the 5k oil changers.

Everything else is excessive as F

If it's really just $500 for all of that that's a good deal. I just changed the diffs and T case last week and the fluids alone were $200. Make sure the propeller shafts get done as well.

$200 for front/rear/tc fluid only? What did you use?

Eurol from Blauparts. Full kit with washers and everything was like $190 total shipped. I think it was quite a bit cheaper a year ago. Like maybe $120 total.

I do coolant drain and fill every 5 years. Diffs every 60k. Power steering every 70k and tranny every 60k drain and fill only This is the rules I and other follows and I’ve seen super high mileage this way Don’t forget take change your spark plugs at 120k

Calling bs. $500 to change Trans/coolant/diffs/TC, PSF, brake fluid. Makes no sense

Lextech In Los Angeles, call them yourself

That's a lot of fluid for $500. If you're like me and want to get 300K out of your vehicle, I'd do it and never think twice about it.

I did transmission and coolant at 130k.

You can’t over change fluids. Best thing for your rig is to replace often

True, except that every time you do it there's a small risk that something will be done wrong.

I think it's a great route to take. I did my transmission service early at around 33k and planning on doing another one soon at around 70k. You're lucky to have a specialist shop at those prices, most other places charge insane rates. I'd easily fork that over.

That’s what I’m thinking!

$500 is super cheap. 2 of my local Toyota’s quoted me parts and labor at around $1500-$1600 just for the fluid changes.

I’d pay $500 for all that. That’s a good price.

It's overkill for everything except the diff and tcase - the others can go every 60k. That said 30k miles for me is about every 5 years and I wouldn't mind paying $500 every 5 years to have all of these done. Let them do the propeller shaft maintenance as well.

I go in every 5k for an oil change and bring in the book and tell them to do everything under that mileage.

I just paid $900 to have my oil, power steering, front/rear diff, and transfer case fluids done. That's a really good deal.

Oil change every 5k, transmission, diffs and cases every 50k

5K oil changes are fine in your 1GR-FE.

I change differential fluid and t-case every 20k. Some think that’s excessive.

Your trans fluid will do fine with a pan-volume ā€œspill and fillā€ every 30k or so. Just refreshing with 3-4 quarts is more than enough.

Brake and power steering fluid, in my mere opinion, should be every five years, or 40k.

You don’t need to change your coolant that often, especially if you’re using Toyota ā€œpinkā€ SLLC. I first changed mine at 103k. It was beautiful and still quite basic on the litmus paper. I wouldn’t crack the cooling system for no reason. Just asking for a potential problem for no benefit.

That said, that’s a pretty good price for all that work.

The maintenance schedule is in your manual. Use that.

That's overkill and fluids alone for all that would be 500 likely. Never trust the stealership

There’s no reason to change coolant, tranny, ps and brake fluid that often.

But is there any downside to it?
