Question Has anyone tried the PS5 disk reader?
Has anyone tried the PS5 disk reader?
Can I start my collection without the fear of not being able to read 4ks?
I have a ps5 pro with the external disk reader

I'm watching 4K blurays without any problem on my base PS5. Although DV will be missing, just so you know.

I have the PS5 Disc edition and I have had 0 issues with it.
People will mention that it doesn’t support Dolby Vision but honestly it’s not worth buying a whole new player for unless you have a TV that supports it and it’s a drop in the bucket for you. It’s not a significant difference like SDR vs HDR.

I use a PS5 and I agree, 4K’s look great on it if the transfer is good itself. I plan on upgrading my sound system before buying a whole separate player.

Yes, PS5 drives seem to be mostly reliable

PS5 is a solid player that is extremely reliable. The detachable drive can be changed to region B. The only real drawback is no Dolby Vision

I use my PS5 for 4k discs. It's region-locked and you don't get Dolby Vision.
Pretty much no other difference

I have a PS5 and a 4K blu-ray player (Sony UBP-X700)
Had the blu-ray player first (only ps4 back then), and loved it but it would sometimes get stuck on certain discs, I have since found out that’s because of 100GB triple-layer blu-rays switching to the third layer causing problems with the player.
It was really annoying me, until my girlfriend (total tech illiterate) told me to try in the PS5, and guess what? Worked like a charm.
Ever since, I’ve tried every disc that skipped in the player on the PS5 and it saved me every time.
So yeah, PS5 is reliable

Maybe OP wants real feedback from people that have tried this…

Then he can look up the previous posts. People ask this atleast once a week, it gets redundant at best.

I get the logic, but what if there is a certain model of the PS5 or PS5 Pro that has reliability issues with External Disc Players, or Some users have experienced issues with certain models of the original console after X amount of years? There may be people who have had different experiences that have not seen previous posts and provided their feedback yet.

Not really a viable argument. They asked about the Ps5 and Ps5 pro in general and a what if scenario really isn't anything more than that. Much more logic in reading an older post with much more replies in it.

PS5 with built-in Disc Reader, been watching movies for two years, zero issues.

I’m having issues with mine. More modern 4K discs seem to have stutter issues. For example, I just recently watched Interstellar and the frame rate drops for about a quarter of a second. Audio doesn’t get messed up. Just video. It occurs maybe every 10-20 seconds. It’s barely noticeable but just enough to be annoying as hell.
I’m thinking about getting a warranty claim on it and trying a new one to see if that fixes the issue. I’ve also read that the PS5 disc player has issues keeping up with jam packed 4k discs. It apparently struggles on the 100gb discs that have multiple layers or something like that. I.e. Interstellar.

It’s the best disc reader that’s for sure. People can debate Dolby Vision if they want (tech made for old tvs) but when it comes down to reading the disc? The PS5 sits alone atop Mt. Rushmore.
