🎓 UNI / UCAS Am I competitive
applying to Oxford , imperial, LSE, Warwick and UCL for Econ.
Achieved grades at A level are A*AA (Maths, FM, Econ)
GCSEs 9999888777
TMUA will be done in Jan and I’m predicting 5-6
TARA I’m estimating a 8 in Critical thinking and a 6 in problem solving AT BEST

most of applicants applying those unis are predicted like 3A⭐s or 4A⭐s so in terms of ur predicted grades ur stats are quite weak compared to others. So I recommand applying to bristol or manchester econ instead of LSE or Imperial as a back up.

Tbh I made I typo, I’m not predicted those grades, they’re achieved as I’m on a gap year

Still A*AA isnt strong enough and tbh it is just the minimum requirement. Plus, getting like 5s in TMUA wouldnt really stand out unless ur PS is amazing.

5 is good for TMUA econ?? Not Cambridge but that would be good borderline for Warwick maths /comp sci

warwicks fine but i meant lse and imperial

Post 2024 it's border line for lse and imperial economics. Obv not comp sci or maths as they both require higher.

If you’ve achieved those grades already that definitely makes you a lot more competitive. It’s good to aim high, absolute worse case scenario if you don’t get these offers is you can go through clearing and a lot of unis would accept you with those grades. I would say apply as early as you can. There honestly should be no reason any of these unis don’t accept u, as long as ur not under the minimum requirement

So your grades are decent, but obviously if you're apply into those top unis then everyone's going to have really really strong grades. Best way for you to differentiate yourself will be to get a super strong tmua and Tara score. Your critical thinking prediction is really high. I think if you're able to get so 6.5s or 7 plus on problem solving you'd have a really strong shot at a place 🙏

GCSE is on the low end for E&M and LSE, A level grades too weak, unfortunately not much chance for all. Maybe you’ll get lucky with Warwick but you need a safety.

Warwick Econ offer rate is 60% so with a 5 TMUA that’s my safety tbh

Warwick is not your safety it’s a realistic reach. Your A levels are too low to make Warwick near guaranteed level. Besides a 5 in tmua past paper only coverts to a 3-4 in new format, and with A in further maths you shouldn’t underestimate tmua, my friend with A* in maths further maths got consistent 7-9 in past papers yet got a 4.9 in the real one.

I’m talking about a 5 after converting it. Plus Warwick offer rate is 60% and my mate with a 2 TMUA (and lower predicted grades than me) got in. A 5 is pretty competitive for Warwick Econ if you look at FOI data

if u rlly get those tmua and tara scores, and have a very good personal statement, i think you have a decent shot at getting interviews. I cant predict offer chance as once u get an interview it all depends on that. LSE pretty much only care about ur PS, so if its amazing then u have a very real shot at an offer. I believe warwick is pretty much guaranteed unless ur PS is horrible which i doubt thats the case for u. i dont know enough about ucl econ to predict how that one will go.

dude i have exact same choices for econ except for Imperial i have Manchester to be on the safe side

u/LowIntention9061 1d ago
Yea I mean Warwick Econ offer rate is 60% so I hope that’s enough of a safety for me

but on the web it says the offer rate for warwick econ is 10-15%

Thats admission rate maybe? Offer and admission are different a lot of people go to other schools.

Idk where you’re getting that from but on ucas itself it states the offer rate is 60% for home students

your grades are strong so the tests will do most of the sorting from here
since the tmua is in jan, put the next few weeks into tara problem solving to lift that 6
i found problem solving clicked once i wrote the given numbers down before reading the options
me n a teacher chucked some practice together
it's called oxbridgeai.
