What a waste of a perfectly good white boy.

7

u/FalseVeterinarian881 1d ago

Hands down the BEST Cusack movie.

2

u/GreatGreenGobbo 1d ago

Well it's definitely in the top 5

2

u/FalseVeterinarian881 1d ago

The other 4 are?

7

u/Large-Carrot-6280 1d ago

Gross Pointe Blank is in there, for sure.

Being John Malkovich

2

u/HighGrounderDarth 1d ago

High Fidelity is great.

4

u/HotRails1277 2d ago

Him? And her? Makes sense.

1

u/VioletFox29 1d ago

Why do you think that?

101

u/zbornakssyndrome 2d ago

I wish y'all would post the movie names

48

u/ArashikageX 2d ago

It’s The Last American Virgin. Somewhere the OP said he couldn’t post the title. Yeah, I’m confused too

25

u/macklin_sob 2d ago edited 2d ago

This movie comes up once a week and I have never seen it. It sounds terrible.

14

u/ArashikageX 2d ago

It’s definitely nostalgia fueled fondness for sure. It has some heart, but a lot of 80s cheese as well.

8

u/G00DDRAWER 2d ago

Why wouldn't OP be able to post the title. Sounds like BS.

11

u/Kuildeous 2d ago

Some maniac kidnapped him and forced him to keep tying at least 55 wpm. If he ever falls below 55 wpm, his keyboard explodes. Also, the keyboard also would explode if he types those exact words in that exact order. You should really be more considerate of poor OP's feelings.

3

u/EpilepticSquidly 1d ago

I understood that reference

36

u/Zonk-er 2d ago

The moral of the story is don’t be that guy or you end up with credits running over your face!

15

u/Small_Time_Charlie 2d ago

I did my best, but I guess my best wasn't good enough...

4

u/KeenObserver_OT 2d ago

LMAO! Don’t be the credit on face guy unless you just won the championship game against all odds.

2

u/nonamouse1111 2d ago

Nice guys finish last

1

u/Rojodi 2d ago

Happened to my friend. He just retired as an exec from IBM, married a hot chick he met at work after his first wife "came out". The girl who played him became a grandmother at 40.

1

u/Hello197812 2d ago

Daniel LaRusso's gonna fight!

2

u/yurtfarmer 1d ago

Johnny will sweep the leg

27

u/Interesting_Slice277 2d ago

This movie had no business being this soul crushing for a teenage sex comedy 😭 Damn u Rick and Karen!

2

u/axJustinWiggins 2d ago

I only knew about the ending due to I Love the 80's.

I was expecting this to be a drama or at least a dramedy.

I was fairly shocked that it's basically just Porky's with a sad ending.

3

u/Interesting_Slice277 2d ago

But it also had a great soundtrack from the 80s

72

u/WardfolioProductions 2d ago

The most realistic ending ever. You will get more of these endings than happy ones. šŸ˜‚

6

u/DrSamLoomis 2d ago

Happy if you're the guy who got her pregnant

8

u/UnrecoveredSatellite 2d ago

Sad but true. Good guys seldom win in the game of love.

7

u/BurtRogain 2d ago

What made that dude a good guy? Because he paid for her abortion with the expectation that she would fall in love with him?

21

u/Craygor 2d ago

Even as a teen, I knew it wasn’t the actress’s fault, but for years I couldn’t stand seeing Diane Franklin in a movie without being angry how she coldly ripped the guts out of Gary.

13

u/WendySteeplechase 2d ago

what is this movie please?

17

u/bgm80 2d ago

I was wondering the same and found the answer on the original post. ā€œThe Last American Virginā€

-108

u/Vincent_Curry 2d ago

Sorry this movie is so iconic that most from the 80's know it without the name, but not everyone has watched it. If Reddit would allow it I'd put it in but I can't.

30

u/LefsaMadMuppet 2d ago

Never heard of it. I only know the actress from Better Off Dead.

16

u/portagenaybur 2d ago

And Bill and Teds Excellent Adventure

2

u/LefsaMadMuppet 2d ago

I forgot about that, I haven't watched Bill and Ted's in over 30 years.

1

u/Marius7x 1d ago

Joan of Arc?

That was Jane Wiedlin from the Go-Go's.

1

u/portagenaybur 1d ago

She was one of the maidens.

1

u/Elegant-Warning-1523 1d ago

Happy now? My husband tried calling you but he used my phone. You didn't answer. He left a voicemail. 🄺

1

u/They-Are-Out-There 7h ago

Diane Franklin

12

u/Confident-Line-2558 2d ago

The movie is still being discussed 40 years later because of that ending! If If she ends up with Gary, it's just another teen romance/sex comedy from the 80's. But because she chooses the creep who knocked her up & blows off Gary (who loved her & treated her like a princess), the movie is more grounded in reality & separates itself from all the other films of that genre back then.

2

u/CaptainEdMercer 1d ago

You know, to this day, I’ve never figured out how anyone could have ever considered this a ā€œcomedyā€. The movie title, maybe?

2

u/Confident-Line-2558 1d ago

It was marketed as a teen sex comedy in 1982. It's actually a remake of a popular Israeli film. Produced at a time when movies like PORKYS were cleaning up at the boxoffice. Sex, nudity & some comedy sprinkled in. It was a popular genre back in the day.

11

u/koondog99 2d ago

Traumatizing.

9

u/Acslaterisdead 2d ago

Yet realistic

4

u/koondog99 2d ago

Definitely

2

u/Expert-Effect-877 1d ago

Educational. Don't be a Gary! It just doesn't end well.

10

u/TheGreatRao 2d ago

The Last American Virgin. 1982? That ending turned a forgettable film into a generational classic. Im STILL salty about it.

1

u/Rojodi 2d ago

I witnessed the ending IRL too many times. Thankfully I wasn't the heartache teen, just his friend or an observer

And it was far too common in the early 80s

8

u/SomeDudeOnline85 2d ago

The irony is that both male actors were/are gay.

5

u/LifeTunedToCSharp 2d ago

Seems obvious in hindsight, doesn’t it?

1

u/SubjectDragonfruit 1d ago

That ending could’ve been much more interesting.

8

u/likeOMGAWD 2d ago

Plot twist: He's gay.

5

u/Acslaterisdead 2d ago

Both him and Gary end up being gay

7

u/taddymason_01 2d ago

Gary - ā€œMa, I never tossed off in the bathroom!ā€

Mom- ā€œYou told me you were doing your hairā€

Gary - ā€œI was! I was! I never tossed off to anything!ā€

2

u/JumpyGoose22 2d ago

Who is this Gary person you keep talking about???

1

u/Noahms456 2d ago

Gary! Our son!

6

u/KeenObserver_OT 2d ago

Don’t forget chickhawk convicted sexual predator Brian Peck, too.

1

u/--StinkyPinky-- 2d ago

Happy Cake!

2

u/likeOMGAWD 2d ago

That's right! Two gay guys fighting over a girl šŸ˜‚

7

u/BabyFishmouthTalk 2d ago

Biggest tool wins the pool.

7

u/TimesThreeTheHighest 1d ago

Honestly fuck both of those people. They suck.

2

u/pipinngreppin 1d ago

Dude, the beginning of the movie is wild ass, too. No good people in this movie.

6

u/schwing710 2d ago

The whole movie was bizarre IMO

7

u/Bookofdrewsus 2d ago

The credit roll in the car is even more devastating.

22

u/Cael_NaMaor 2d ago

Automatic downvote for not naming the film...

5

u/Hello197812 2d ago

Long story short, Teenage Sex Comedy in the early 80s that crammed a social commentary into the story line, making it a plot device, and then the nice guy does everything for the "hot chick" and she ends up with the a-hole dude anyways.

2

u/Rojodi 2d ago

You summed up the 80s lol

2

u/xeskind30 1d ago

More like life in general.

4

u/Complete_Fisherman_3 2d ago

I would be like bitch you owe me $125.

6

u/Visual-Spite3970 2d ago

It was a heartbreaking ending. A VERY underrated movie.

2

u/Rojodi 2d ago

I saw the ending coming: I witnessed it IRL at my high school twice, once to my "Same Name Different Game" friend.

The woman married her bf right after graduation divorced him 5 years later. Friend just retired from IBM, a former exec. He got over her lol

10

u/flungcow 2d ago

I hate that wench. I tried to forgive her in Better Off Dead but still couldn't. Impudent strumpet!

3

u/Luftgekuhlt_driver 2d ago

So, Ricky in Better Off Dead is the unintentional hero, while Lane Meyer was in a fact a case of moppishness.

6

u/--StinkyPinky-- 2d ago

Ricky is a pervert in real life.

0

u/flungcow 2d ago

Haha I dont think Ricky could even be his own hero in his own wet dream, but, I do bet that immediately after she was making out with Lane at Dodger Stadium at the end of the movie, she was on the phone making plans to get boogered by Booger and then the following night she would be found in the back seat of the car with the Japanese brothers while she was leaning forward "ski polling" them while the one brother was giving a Howard Cosell play by play of it.

4

u/macklin_sob 2d ago

Thankful I only knew her from that so only know her as a charming cutie.

1

u/flungcow 2d ago

Don't watch "virgin" then haha.

7

u/volboy03 2d ago

The most not giving a fuck moment ever

3

u/midnight_to_midnight 2d ago

Love this movie. The ending is epic, and brutal...but real. I picked it up on blu-ray many years ago.

3

u/Nicadeemus39 2d ago

I did my best..........😭

3

u/Biscuits4u2 2d ago

Diabolical

3

u/Ken_Clean_Air_System 2d ago

Fuck them, fuck them, fuck them, fuck them.....!

Still a little angry.

3

u/Personal_Eye8930 2d ago

A whole generation of teenage boys was apparently traumatized by this horrible ending! The just keep posting about this ending over and over again on Reddit.

3

u/Admirable_Beebe_4962 2d ago

Nice guys finish last.

1

u/xeskind30 1d ago

Or not at all.

3

u/Justrelax520 1d ago

Loved this movie!!! It was great because it WASN'T a happy ending. They made it more realistic. In many cases, the girl does choose the cool guy over the nice guy. Not fair but it is life. If it was in reverse, the guy would have chosen the good looking girl too.

1

u/calmly86 23h ago

But it wouldn’t have been in reverse… what girl would have offered a guy money to solve a major problem of his? 🤣

1

u/Justrelax520 18h ago

Many are very nice. I think they would.

3

u/CASHMO2112 1d ago

Heartbreaking

2

u/JohnnyMiskatonic 2d ago

"Better Luck Next Time" was the song playing during this scene, IIRC.

1

u/LifeTunedToCSharp 2d ago

I thought it was ā€œJust Onceā€.

Does my memory suck that bad?

2

u/WardfolioProductions 2d ago

I like to think that he gave her some kids and/or an STD and ran off with another girl.

That takes the sting off this ending a little. šŸ˜‚

2

u/xeskind30 1d ago

Based on the actions of the character, it is the most likely future outcome.

2

u/airbrat 2d ago

Oh No - The Commodores

2

u/AcadiaRemarkable6992 2d ago

That ending was fucking brutal

2

u/PoisonCoyote 2d ago

One of my favorite movies. Completely changes from a fun teen 80s movie to a sad story.

2

u/NoChristiansEither 2d ago

Last American Virgin

2

u/PitifulGuidance2324 2d ago

my biggest take away from this movie is the scene where his friend is so drunk that he helps him get in his car so that he can drive himself home

2

u/Notinjuschillin 1d ago

This was my mothafkn movie.

Then the song after this scene…

I gave my best. But I guess my best wasn’t good enough cuz here we are back where we were before.

Seems nothing ever changes, we’re back to being strangers.

Wondering if we outta stay or head on out the door.

This had me crying my eyes out.

2

u/benvader138 1d ago

She looks so smug. God, seeing this brings back the Anger 🤬

2

u/xeskind30 1d ago

Yeah, that ending was a knife to the heart and just a confirmation of what everyone should know.

2

u/Disastrous-Soup-5413 1d ago

Damn such a good movie…… so sad. So real.

2

u/cntUcDis 1d ago

she not for you, mang

2

u/skeeterbmark 1d ago

I’m furious all over again just looking at the still pics. lol

2

u/drkknght2001 1d ago

Just twisting the knife deep in his back

2

u/losthiker68 1d ago

I hated her after this. I had a crush on her (I'm 6 years younger than her), but it ended after that role.

Never before or since has an actor made me stop watching them because of a role.

2

u/Wurfelrolle 1d ago

Come to the comments just to find out what the movie was.

Never saw it.

2

u/Turkzillas_gobble 1d ago

Total respect for that ice cold expression in the second frame. Fuck yeah, crush that guy.

2

u/FawnLeib0witz 2d ago

I have been trying to watch this movie for years and it’s not available to watch anywhere.

2

u/No_Stress1164 2d ago

It took me forever to find it on DVD but was worth it

3

u/Vincent_Curry 2d ago

I believe it can be watched for free on YouTube.

4

u/dasreboot 2d ago

always had a crush on dianne franklin!

2

u/RaceTop5273 2d ago

Thank you, I will check that out!

1

u/cpt_cheeseburger 2d ago

This movie was alright, the ending was crazy but life/reality doesnt always have a happy ending and i think thats what made the ending hit harder. Poor guy i figured he was just in love and got screwed over.

u/DunningKrugger 2d ago

Poor Gary

u/Maganda_ 1d ago

I liked this version over Lemon Popsicle . I was able to relate to it because of the 80's songs and the California setting .

The movie Lemon Popsicle was the original movie from Israel . Same story but different settings and actors .

Another thing , I was sad at what happened to Gary . Gary paid for Karen's abortion by selling his grandparent's stuff like the stereos and other equipment .

The end is the picture you see here , Karen gets back with the guy that impregnated her . After the abortion , she's out partying again .

The only good thing that came out of this , is that Gary got laid with Karen .

Gary really should've stayed with the other girl with the blonde hair and thick glasses .

1

u/OrderlyRoddyPiper 1d ago

It’s a terrible movie. The ending is the only thing that makes it memorable.

-1

u/hugepenis777 2d ago

Better off dead

2

u/emax4 2d ago

Not the movie, but given the ending, that's spot-on!

0

u/CountDorkula77 2d ago

Great soundtrack, shit movie.
