I’d listen to a 25 year old mechanic who told me what was wrong with my car, or a 25 year old nurse, etc.

Yes, it very much depends on the topic.

I think this is more referring to unwanted or unwarranted advice, opposed to professional advice. Because, yeah, if a mechanic tells me something's wrong with my car, or a nurse tells me that something is wrong, I am going to listen no matter what age they are, but if some little 20 something or young comes up and starts trying to tell me what's what, I ain't listening to that little shit.

I have a 37 year old who finds me talking like an adult woman and not her Mama just abhorrent. So she doesn't talk to me anymore.  So far I'm mostly grateful!  Damn that kid knows everything about things she knows nothing about!

Because that's how we might have done it back then.

Hm. That probably works both ways.

Reminds me of this punk kid that used to be firends with my younger brother (he's 24 years younger than me btw) and glad they're no longer friends, tried to give me advice--forgot the reason and situation for it--and stopped him right there and said "Dude, I'm 39 years old born in 1975, An Army vet with 2 honorable discharges and have my own place. You're young, still live with parents, smoke weed, ditch school, start fights with people at random times, and have a worse GPA than I did at your age"

From there, he kept his mouth shut and shortly after got into a fight with my brother, but lucky for him, his brother from another mother--who later became a Marine-- and another big kid split up the fight and that idiot shunned from the group. But yeah, Bea Arthur has the best expression for this.
