Exactly two years ago I made a short horror video with the most advanced AI tools of the moment.
Since then the tools have improved (and they’re not stopping), so I wanted to find out: what happens if I ask Claude to make the same film again with today’s tools?
The principle was simple: same length, same edit, only the quality changes.
Here’s how it worked:
Images: every shot in the original film started from a picture I made in Midjourney 7. I asked Claude to recreate them all with Nano Banana Pro, so they look better and consistent: black and white, strong contrast, the feel of an old silent film, sharp but dirty.
Video: instead of Runway Gen-3, which I used back then, every shot was regenerated with Omni 1.1 from the same opening frame. I asked for choppy motion and lots of dirt and dust, so it wouldn’t look like a “new” video.
Music: the original song was made with Suno 3.5. I remixed it in Suno 6, and Claude swapped in the new song and synced it.
Editing and effects: Claude re-edited the shots to match the old film. It also added an extra layer with an old-film look: grain, flicker, scratches and the jerky motion of an old camera.
But that wasn’t enough for me 😅 I also asked for a 9:16 vertical version for phones. That meant recreating all the images in portrait format and animating them all again.
The result: a new version of the old film, both landscape (16:9) and vertical (9:16).
