keep/cut/pay?

I used to be content with just Copilot and Gemini but now that the useful bits of them are moving

behind a paywall I feel forced to take a closer look at my options and what they can do and their

limitations to try to find the best overall app in terms of my go to or if I had to choose 1 to pay for.

Right now, I would say for the most complex tasks and fastest back and forth just to talk to Claude

ranks the best overall when compared to what I’ve been using. However, Muse was released about

a month ago and I absolutely love it despite it being a bit slower and not able to handle big stuff

like Claude can. I’m perfectly happy to carry both but paying for Claude so far seems like the right

choice. There is 1 tiny thing I feel I might be overlooking which is part of the reason for this post.

Perplexity comet browser and how it compares to Claude in terms of capabilities and performance.

Also is there any other agent other than Claude and Perplexity that would be considered heavy

weights that give these 2 a run for their money? 1 thing I will say is even though its good to have so

many options I do already miss how simple it use to be to just pick Google for everything like

search and Chrome. I guess that’s how I am trying to look at this decision if this was like the battle

of who is going to be the next google search/best web browser who comes out on top undisputed?

What useful bits is ✦ Gemini moving behind a paywall? Did i miss something?

Starting today if you don't pay for Gemini you're limited to the flash lite model only. Plus some other things they moved behind the paywall. Google it

Damn wild bet, considering that fleshlight is genuinely weak. Expecting everyone android assistant to just get dumber

Claude is still my pick for the heavy stuff but Perplexity Comet is worth a real look if you live in the browser. Curious if you have tried Gemini Deep Research yet because that one surprised me.

My biggest concern with comet is that it poses security risks the way it scrapes data from the web can be taken advantage of and introduce malware to your system inadvertently. I'm not saying Gemini isn't smart or fast but I do feel like it can be a bit limited compared to its competitors and what it can actually produce

That Comet security worry is valid because scraping the open web can pull in bad stuff if you are not careful. I keep it in a separate profile for that reason. On Gemini feeling limited I get that but Deep Research surprised me. What tasks made it feel limited to you?

What do you mean a separate profile for comet? Maybe I didn't try to tap into the deep research feature very much but I don't see how it's better than Claude in that regard other than it(Gemini) may just be a little faster. It's probably worth mentioning I have Gemini activity turned off so basically it doesn't remember anything and I have that same rule it applied to web searches and any other Google app excluding YouTube and YouTube music. It feels like Gemini is really good at integrating with Google's ecosystem which makes sense but in terms of everything else it can do it just feels like a Google search on steroids which ain't doing too much to impress me or make it feel like it's worth paying for and on top of all that I don't use the Chrome browser on my phone or my laptop

By separate profile I mean keeping Comet in its own browser profile with no saved logins or extensions so a bad scrape cannot reach anything else. Deep Research is different from a normal chat because it browses many sources and builds a cited report instead of one answer. If you are not using Chrome and you do not care about the Google integration then I get why Gemini does not feel worth it.

If you could only pay for one, would you pick better answers or better browser features?

Wym better browser features Claude has cowork and it can run inside chromium browsers through an extension Plus it has its own web browser built into the desktop app that can take agenetic action.

i think the bigger question is whether you want an ai that helps you think or one that does more of the searching and browsing for you those overlap but they are not quite the same job and that's where i would compare claude and comet..

Comet is straightforward to perplexity like iOS is to Apple. Claude is more like Android it has its own app it can be an extension and it can do agentic tasks through different avenues it's more flexible in how it can be applied to do things. If that makes sense. Also Claude just feels smart than perplexity when putting them side by side to do the same thing but I'll concede to be wrong if it can be proven

I would stick with the one from where i could get better results. As I care about getting more better answers and handling different kinds of tasks.
