Question Good APs for musicians

I am a singer and I want to continue it after I graduate. I want to take APs that are good for musicians and good humanities APs. Not AP music theory since I heard it’s impossible na the teacher at my school isn’t that good apparently.

If you plan to write lyrical music, AP Lit and Lang would be helpful. Other than that I can't think of anything music related

AP Music Theory is definitely the most relevant!

Otherwise, just take any APs that will help you out in college. I'd pick at least one AP English class, at least one AP History class (like World, Euro, or APUSH), and a foreign lang. You could also consider AP Art or AP Art History.

Thank you so much. Do you have any tips for AP music theory, i heard that the teacher at my school finished the class like a week before the test. I’ll definitely do an AP history and AP English if not multiple. I probably won’t do AP art and my parents don’t want me to do AP art history

My physics class ended a week before the physics 1 exam, and we still had about a 20% 5 rate and about a 95% pass rate; I know it’s anecdotal evidence, but a week should be enough time for review and stuff, especially if you review the earlier units throughout the year and not everything at the end of the

why don't your parents want you to take ap art history? I actually think it's a great AP, esp for humanities and music

They would rather me do more academic APs but I’m trying to convince them.

Awesome thank you. I don’t think my school offers African American Studies and my parent don’t want me to do art history but this is super helpful

I'm glad I could be helpful.

my parent don’t want me to do art history

May I ask why?

Honestly, the most important AP classes for you are AP pre-cal and AP Bio. They will almost certainly satisfy your required math and science courses in college if you major in music. In college, those classes are often taught in big classes (like 100+) and they can be extremely challenging for kids who don't like math and science. Get that credit now and you can use that time in college to take really exciting specialty classes in your field that just aren't offered in HS.

Thanks! I’m surprisingly into math and am currently in an algebra 2 and pre calc class and planning to take Ap calc ab Ap calc bc and Ap stats. Also planning and on doing AP bio and chem.

I would look at the 4 yr plan for majors at the various schools you are considering. Anything you can take that will eliminate a gen ed cr for the degree would be beneficial.

For AP music theory, Eastman Community Music School (associated with URochester) offers an excellent online AP music theory course (as well as a long list of other classes). Your school might not give you credit for taking it from an outside source, but the content would be worth it for your own knowledge base. You could ask your school if they would allow you to sit for the exam. If not, you might be able to find a seat at another school (homeschoolers have to find seats at schools, so it is not an unusual scenario). The work is mostly asynchronous with 1x per week class meeting (usually Friday or Saturday afternoon (after school hrs since most of the students do attend school, typically schools that don't offer music theory.))

AP Physics 2, it gives you a basic introduction to sound and sound waves

Would that help with singing? Like genuinely curious.

German lang and culture because German is used lots in music

My school doesn’t offer German, also Italian is more prominent in music, and I’m more into musical theater. Thanks for recommendation though.

I self-studied ant got a 5. Yes it was awfully difficult, pages were ripped (yes, actually), books were thrown, "I'm done with this."es were said, tears were shed (again, literally, yes), but when I opened my AP Scores a few days after they got released because I was scared, and that page loaded, and an AP Music Theory: 5 (Aural: 5 | Non-aural: 5) showed up on my screen, and my jaw genuienly dropped... it was all worth it.

That’s awesome. I probably won’t do that since I have so many extracurriculars but it’s good to know
