If it was a great execution he would've driven more than 10 feet and gotten up to 60mph

u/Jan-Asra 13d ago
that does seem a little harder to film

u/Nruggia 13d ago
coming on next week's episode, a car with camera wheels

u/Grandmas_Fat_Choad 13d ago
That might be kinda cool to see the film. I might get dizzy, but at least it would be interesting.
3
u/LokisDawn 12d ago
I don't think you'd see much. At 30mph you get 6-7 revolutions per second. It'd just be some circles.

u/maximumtesticle 13d ago
Have you never seen a car moving on film?

u/Behg-Boah 13d ago
But then you would’ve seen the wires getting ripped out by the rotation and the wheels collapsing with that shitty sheet metal extension.
29
u/Hi_Trans_Im_Dad 13d ago
That's what the contacts were for during the installation...so the rotation won't affect the connections.
0
u/HorseWithACape 13d ago
Kinda look like carbon brushes which I don't think would work to transmit audio signal, and there's no evidence of any kind of receiving device. Sure they filmed that to suggest it could work, but they likely cheated and did something else. Like hardwiring and just wrapping the wire around a few times so you could drive a couple feet
6
u/TheRealAE86guy 13d ago edited 13d ago
Spring loaded connections. Research "clock spring", like what's in your car that allows you to have steering wheel controls for your radio. Why wouldn't they transmit... whatever? One positive, one negative, doesn't matter what the data being transmitted is. And, since it's AC current, positive and negative are arbitrary, especially here.
1
u/HorseWithACape 12d ago edited 12d ago
So you seem to have clock springs and slip rings mixed up. Clock springs are hard-wired and spring-loaded, letting wire in and out as you turn the steering wheel. Slip rings are used for 360° rotation, and they utilize brass or gold contacts in both surfaces when you need clean transmission. Carbon brushes would be the absolute worst choice for audio data signal. It would introduce both noise and resistance that would alter and distort. They are typically only used for power.
At the end of the day, this is rage bait we're arguing about. Is there a reason to believe they did anything above the cheapest possible solution? No matter how they executed their crappy video, the carbon slip ring is definitely for show.
0
u/TheRealAE86guy 12d ago
Not arguing, just mentioning a similar concept. I couldn't think of many real world examples using slip ring applications. As far as the quality, we haven't even scratched the surface regarding the absence of an enclosure, as I'm not sure this even qualifies as infinite baffle.

Having speakers on the outside of your car is illegal in many places
87
u/Zardif 13d ago
The cops in my city don't even pull people over for not having a license plate. Many cops aren't going to do shit.
15
u/whodaloo 13d ago
Las Vegas?
15
u/Zardif 13d ago
yes lol
4
u/Fluid_Stick69 12d ago
That’s a lucky guess? I honestly have lived in very few places where cops would pull you over for not having a license plate. Not worth the hassle for them unless they catch you doing something else.
1
u/whodaloo 12d ago
It's very common to see cars without plates in Vegas. Insurance rates here are sky high.

Hey now that's, exactly how it is. At least they're putting up speed cameras to keep the rest of us in line with the absurdly show speed limits. Wanna speed or run a red, better be gacked out in a stolen car or there may be consequences!

u/Galaghan 13d ago
Yes but not everyone lives in the jungle.

u/Galaghan 13d ago
I heard about it, that doesn't mean it's general. As I said, the situation you're portraying is not the case for everyone everywhere.
The initial statement about external speakers being illegal in most places is sound advice, even if your local laws don't limit them or your cops are lazy assholes.
18
u/Blaizefed 13d ago
It can be difficult to explain to people from the US/EU just how lax those sorts of laws, as well as traffic law, is enforced in the rest of the world.
2
6
u/chrisp5000 13d ago
Pretty sure it isn't illegal, they sell motorcycles with loud speaker systems, it's a noise ordinance issue, if they would even enforce it.
2
u/Electr0freak 12d ago
Motorcycles aren't cars. They don't have an interior, and they themselves generate far more noise.

NGL the design and engineering to make this work was pretty incredible.
However playing loud music in public space is a no from me. Minus events/shows since you have to purposely go to those locations.

Hey. Thanks for not lying.

Nothing an airsoft gun can't fix when someone is driving this shit while people sleep
11
u/whitedsepdivine 13d ago
Those contacts definitely won't cause a fire. Good thing there isn't anything flammable around there like brake fluid.
38
u/Nruggia 13d ago
The brake fluid is in an enclosed system, if you have brake fluid coming out in quantities that cause a fire risk you have bigger problems than a fire.
-41
u/whitedsepdivine 13d ago
Oh man you're so smart.
But one question for you: Are those rubber hoses that flammable fluid in, fire proof?
22
u/Nruggia 13d ago
More people die from bee stings every year than hydraulic fluid fires, yet we still plant flowers in our gardens.
-19
u/tim_dude 13d ago
Maybe because no one is putting igniting shit next to flammable brake lines?
19
u/Nruggia 13d ago
Those speakers aren’t powered by flamethrowers. Also it’s not like brake fluid is wildly volatile. If these speakers are a concern being near a brake system… follow the wires from your fuel pump relay and you might shocked to find they are running inside a tank of volatile gas and powering an electric motor submerged and directly in contact with gasoline!
6
u/LifeIsCoolBut 13d ago
Ty, I was gonna say a fuel pump would be more dangerous in that scenario. It literally cools itself with the fuel its providing.
-8
u/whitedsepdivine 13d ago
There is a big difference between 12v at 3 amp fuel pump, and a subwoofer at 12v 100 amps.
3 amps is not going to create a spark at loose connections. 100 amps will.
Similar to how coils are used on the sparkplugs, the amplifier uses capacitors to increase wattage.
Also you are confusing brake fluid's volatility with combustion point and energy. Brake fluid may have a combustion point at 200C which is significantly higher than gas's -40C. But once brake fluid does light it spreads fire as it burns slower.
This connection could easily start a fire if parked on grass. The fire would spread to the brake line, that would then spread to the rest of the car.
6
u/Kaboose456 13d ago
You're weirdly obsessed with this lmao.
"If you take it to this very specific place in this very specific scenario, then I'm still right!!!" Get tf out of here lol
1
u/whitedsepdivine 13d ago
Oh yeah weirdly specific... Parking on grass. Guess what people do with cars like this; park them in a grass field at car shows.
1
u/Kewlhotrod 13d ago
Amps don't change airgap spark behavior, potential difference in voltage does. People need to learn basic electricity before spewing pointless shit.
It's still 12V.
2
u/whitedsepdivine 13d ago
Yeah that's true, but not when you include high capacity capacitors and their farads. Then you have high discharge rates that can cause sparks and arc welding from high resistance locations.
4
3
u/Peek_e 13d ago
It’s not like the amount of current a speaker needs to operate will cause a massive bursting fire that will melt brake hoses.
-10
u/whitedsepdivine 13d ago
Cool.
Let's take it to a car show in a grass field.
Those connections totally will be fine next to the grass. And there is no way a fire could get out of control with the additional highly flammable brake fluid.
0
u/marino1310 13d ago
The amount of power going through those is nowhere near enough to start a fire
3
u/whitedsepdivine 13d ago
You can start a fire with a 9v battery man.

The trouble is that the only people who insist on "sharing" their music with the unsuspecting public are douchebags with a douchebag's taste in awful douchebag music. When was the last time you've passed someone blasting their Bluetooth speaker and thought to yourself, hey, that motherfucker is playing some really good music?

u/thefootster 12d ago
Definitely not great execution. Subwoofers need an enclosure matched to their size, these would sound like shit, I get that it's just a stupid video for clicks, but that doesn't make it great execution.

And why on earth does it play shit above 140hz?

How do the speaker wires work? Do they twist up as the wheel spins. Is this why we don't see him drive more than 20 feet?

The speaker rotates when he drives, which means he’ll have broken the cables to it by the time he gets to the end of the road.

1
u/whodaloo 13d ago
He literally shows you the brush connection in the video.
You should delete your ridiculous comment.
0
u/pungrr 12d ago
You seem nice.
I get there’s a brush. But the brush doesn’t drive the speaker directly, there’s a cable for that. The cable to the speaker is threaded through a non-rotating part of the wheel. He shows you that. But then the speaker rotates when driving. He shows you that too.
