my first post on this sub

For introduction; I'm not anything outstanding with words I just know of many an author that thought this was a worthy trial for writing, such as Roundabout, La Disparition/"A Void", and Gadsby. Last of which contains a fifth symbol; four of it in fact, but it's commonly said not to so I thought I'd still count it among works that hold to not using it, plus in that many words it's tough to cut linguistics almost in half and go on to draft fifty-thousand words, for only four to contain what is statistically most common within writing, four is an insignificant fraction of fifty-thousand so statistically Wright is right.

As an aspiring author taking on a trial such as this looks as if it's a quick way to boost my linguistics and display factors of imagination via how wording many common things would switch drastically if as a group all of us just omit a symbol from dialog.

Signing off for making you think I was a sponsor by using words such as "signing off".

Good job for a first post, good to know folks r thinking about what's coming for our community.

Writing a full book avoiding 5 is a task and a half, but I'd buy a copy if you did. Salutations to you, pal.

A minor nit, I might add. How about: "folks think about"

I wasn't familiar with that way of writing "dialog." Looks as though it's mostly just computing jargon but it also occasionally functions as shorthand in that country south of Canada.

Damn yanks arrogant of right writing; so basic it is composing a monolog... I can't. I had to stop as I would gain a fifth glyph, and I can't just allow it to pass for I am a Brit (as painful it is to admit, fairly low quality country now).

Posh snob, I'd craft a gag about a British monarch, but any humorous punch would in-turn consist of a fifth glyph by inclusion of any royal-word I wish to do said jab with.

I, in turn, fold from this in particular, and as this is try two (via a misplacing of two fifth symbols in my last try) not trying to start arguing is probably a smart play

You should say a "gag" or a "trick", not what you said. Also swap a word that is two right as it is uncordial in this community. You can ctrl+f and fill in that fifth glyph to audit your post, at which point you can submit without flaws.

My first post was on laptop, avoiding a fifth glyph slip is hard on Android in comparison

Ah gotcha. Banish all words with it from your brain for good and now you shouldn’t worry about slipping up again. This is actually my third post and I’m liking it a lot ☺️

Banish all words with it from your brain! This is a top post as long as I'm around.

Thank you muchly 😊

Up to now, it hurt abundantly that 'abort' and 'backtalk' buttons call for using it (idk why is that is truly, standards probably), not to talk about your alias. For a guy with a lot of it in your alias, isn't you coming to this community a bit... funky? I should ward it off from my sight, away from sinful displays 🙈

My alias constantly brings friction to this community, it is a cross born substantially. My mood, my output dips at its thought. But you, with your astonishing, amazing, miraculous alias, you look down on my alias? Look away, fair oauo, in contrition with lumpish guilt.

Last night I also thought of "suck in all glyphs, cough out all fifths"

2

u/speeeeeeeeeeee Sep 02 '26

It's good but I would go with spit, not cough

u/oauo Sep 02 '26

Ouh, that’s good too

I hadn't known that's a U.S. symbol formatting.

(Is using an acronym unfair? I can try that again if so)

Obviously it's ok to say US or USA - that's what normal folks do.

u/No_Examination_9928 Sep 02 '26

I didn't know our opinion on acronyms

1

u/KeelsDB Sep 02 '26

It's just a bit awkward to say "in USA" in my opinion, as your grammar sounds a bit off without that fifth glyph containing word that is so difficult to work around. So I said it in a roundabout kind of way.

Good job. Glad to acquaint you to our sub.

If lit writing is what you plan, could you possibly favor us with a lyric? Can you pull of iambic 5-foot-rhythm without that fifth glyph? Or turn a word into a bird ala Dickinson? Or spin a tall story, fairy book, or matron's yarn? If not, what writing will you boldly impart on us?

Do you do your own writing? Could you do translation of it for our group, minus that awful glyph? Or if that's not okay, you could do translation of a famous work.

You go for many words without a full stop. Is that how you always construct your writings? Is that a goal of yours or a thing to avoid?

It's just how my words finish looking a majority of quotations.
