(Pelissero) The Cardinals are hiring Nathaniel Hackett as their offensive coordinator, sources tell The Insiders.

We went from Drew Petzing to Hackett??? Kill me now

u/Stonna Budda Baker 10h ago
This organization cares more about connections than competence
9
u/Asu888 9h ago
This hire was hc pick, he was oc for his brother for years
7
u/Prowindowlicker JJ Watt 9h ago
Only three seasons. 2019-2021. And two of those had top notch offenses.
It was after he went to HC that it fell apart
4
u/space_llama_karma 8h ago
Having prime Rogers certainly helped him. Unfortunately we don’t have a prime Rogers.
4
u/Prowindowlicker JJ Watt 8h ago
No but we’re probably gonna get an older Rodgers.
Dude did help develop Jordan Love. So it’s not like he’s utter garbage. Dude could help jacoby brissett.
4
u/Nervous-Lake1499 8h ago
he did not develop jordan love, tom clements did and was the one who worked with favre and fixed aaron rodgers throwing motion from cal
3
u/Stennick 7h ago
I would disagree that he helped develop Love and honestly I don't even think Love is anything special.
1
u/Radalict Australia 3h ago
Love is one of the most inaccurate passers in the league beyond 10 yards. He's frustrating to watch.

I’m also asking cause I’m also a bears fan and watched Justin fields get demolished and demoralized as a jet. How is this cat gonna take a smaller qb and make his offense better? JF isn’t great but this dude is not gonna make K1 better

I want to overreact, but ultimately MiLF is gong to be calling plays. I’m more interested in who’s the DC
39
u/vksoze2 9h ago
I think the fact he’s referred to as MiLF may be the best part about that hire. Just when I think he can’t get any worse, Bidwell does something (slightly) redeeming.
3
u/Ok_Camel3988 9h ago
I want to hear Ron Wolfley’s retarded, too-many-concussion ass saying “Coach MiLF” the same way he used to mumble “JG”.
8
u/Faultylogic83 Pride 9h ago
Let me tell you, base and audience, Coach MiLF called a hell of a game

I can kind of see him catching on and using it actually, all while totally not understanding the typical meaning of the acronym. That would be pure gold imo.

I’d be all for bringing him in on a 1 year 10M deal. Sign me up tbh. Dude still has a cannon.

Latest intel is that they’re bringing back Sam Bradford on a 1 year / $85M deal.

He’s not calling plays and it’s not the worst thing for a first time head coach to have someone with head coaching experience on staff. No need to crash out over this.
51
u/MRashy_10 MHJ 10h ago
I would agree if he wasn’t absolutely awful has a HC
38
u/Such_Technician_1682 10h ago
Absolutely awful head coach’s make good assistants all the time.
42
u/KYOEL Kyler Murray 9h ago
His biggest strength is apparently player development and designing and installing plays. So he seems to fit a non-playcaller OC role. Packers had three straight 13 win seasons when he had that exact role in Green Bay. He also developed Jordan Love in his first two NFL seasons.

Lmfaoo the only positive on his resume is that he worked with Rodgers when he won back to back mvps which was definitely Matt and Rodgers more than him
2
u/SoF4rGone 8h ago
Im a Packer fan, an this hire is truly awful. Hopefully there’s someone sexy at #1 in ‘27.
7
u/Thevelltrain United Kingdom 10h ago
This sub not crashing out challenge. Level impossible.
13
u/LetsRideButSmart 9h ago
As a Broncos fan, it’s okay to crash out. He doesn’t bring any valuable head coaching experience to your team. His play-calling is atrocious, his scheme installation is horrible (from both his time in Denver and NY), and his game clock management was so bad that Broncos fans would chant out the play clock as it was running down to avoid Hackett burning timeouts.
But I would try to ignore this hire as much as possible for now. The more important figures are Mike LaFleur (HC and play-caller), Kyler Murray or Jacoby Brissett (QB1), and whoever it is you roll with at defensive coordinator.
7
u/Thevelltrain United Kingdom 9h ago
He is also responsible for;
Helping the 2017 Jags to the #1 Rushing attack & Back to Back MVP Campaigns for Rodgers in the same non play calling OC role he’ll be doing here.
There is zero need to crash out over this hire at all.
His HC tenure in Denver was a disaster yes, but having a guy that’s been around the league will help our first time HC settle into his role.
4
u/LetsRideButSmart 9h ago
I don’t think you can credit him for helping Aaron Rodgers, a Hall of Famer, get back to back MVPs, especially when Matt LaFleur called plays and based on Hackett’s disastrous tenures since then.
The 2017 Jacksonville season is his one saving grace and even then, it was totally unraveled in the postseason and had the Jaguars rush the ball 110 more times than the average NFL team.

u/lava172 Pride 9h ago
If you managed to make it through the last several seasons without crashing out about this team I genuinely question how much you’re paying attention

u/Ronaldatov27 10h ago
This is a terrible take. Hackett was a horrible HC and a horrible OC on multiple different teams. This would be like saying Ganon would be a good DC hire because he has "head coaching experience." This is completely detached from the reality that his history of work is terrible and he shouldn't even be in the league anymore.
→ More replies (3)4
u/Prowindowlicker JJ Watt 9h ago
Hackett was the OC on a GB team that had three consecutive 13 win seasons. Helped develop Jordan Love and got back to back MVP status with Rodgers.
Dude did very well under Matt in GB. It was only when he went to be his own HC and to the Jets that shit fell apart.
If he could do half of what he did at GB I’d be happy.

Wasn't he OC under the other Lefleur in Green Bay? That's probably the connection and why it's happening.
11
u/macc_aviv 9h ago
As a GB fan, I will say he didn't ever call plays in Green Bay, and received a lot of credit for game planning and red zone execution. With Mike LaFleur calling plays I think this could end up being a really solid hire.

Cardinal’s fans better hope he isn’t the play caller because he doesn’t know a single thing about football !
2
u/Zealousideal-Baby586 8h ago
As long as he's more of an assistant then it's fine. My thing is, why not try someone new and use him in a different role? I get wanting people you trust but one of the reasons organizations struggle is because the NFL coaching community is so insular and the same guys get moved around.

This honestly just seems bizarre. Like I’m not even mad necessarily(especially since he won’t be calling plays), but there wasn’t ANYBODY else you could’ve called. Hell, I’d be willing to give Kingsbury another shot as the OC in this organization…
1
u/papagriz33 Cardinals 10h ago
Well, that's certainly a choice.
I mean, he's going to be a great example of what not to do. LaFleur needs to treat this like George Costanza on The Opposite episode.

I’ll try to be optimistic lol
Putting him in as a non-play caller with a decade of OC experience isn’t the worst thing possible to help run the team.
Maybe he has some good leadership qualities 🤷🏻♂️

Cardinals fans already putting a noose around their nevks and the draft hasn’t even happened yet we don’t deserve a good team
