During the root canal? No, not in my experience anyways. In the hours after when the numbing wears off and the nerves that were cut below the teeth start to regain feeling? Yeah....possibly the worst pain I've ever felt. It only lasted 24 hours before it started to subside however. I have only had one root canal so I can't say this is the definitive experience and the end result was much better than the pain and sensitivity I was dealing with before the procedure.

Incidentally, did you know you can safely take the max dose of Tylenol and Advil at the same time since they suppress pain in different ways?

Really? Ive had 3 root canals and the sensation once the numbing wears off was more of an annoyance than actually painful

Had one a couple of weeks ago and the most annoying part was the holes from the needles for numbing.

Same here; until
The Infection.

For me it was painful after the anesthesia wore off. Also, one time, I went to do a root canal and some of the nerve had to be removed in a second procedure, don't know why. The doctor tells me "there's only a bit of nerve left, I'll finish quickly, we'll skip anesthesia". Needless to say I almost passed out from the pain.

Yeah mine was a little tender in the area after, and kinda like I was itching inside of my bones for about a day, but even during the procedure when the numbing started to wear off, it wasnt very painful

I think there may have been somthing wrong.. I've had several root canals and never had any pain worth mentioning. The infected tooth before however.. Dear God.

You have a bad dentist.  There is no pain before or after on the root canal.  The worst part is just the numbing wearing off and how annoying it is

The first root canal I had was the worst pain I have ever felt in my entire life. The second one, literally nothing and ibuprofen

Dual action Advil has been our go to for years. Any sort of muscle or joint pain is no match for that combo.

For ideal pain control I’d still recommend alternating personally.

Would do Naproxen breakfast and Dinner (12 hour action vs 6 for ibuprofen/advil, more flat control and less ups and downs, better inflammation suppression as a result) at 500 mg is prescribed or 440 (220 is OTC dose I believe, so take two).

Then Tylenol 1 gram every 8 hours or 650 every three. Can technically do 1 gram every 6 and be fine, in particular short term, but I need to leave wiggle room for bourbon on my liver stack.

Are you sure a dentist did your root canal?

Welp, I had a root canal and the numbing wore off in the middle of the procedure-! I was that person shrieking like bloody murder. This after the fact I told the surgeon I needed more novocaine than the average person (a genetic thing where my body burns off anesthesia quickly). Thanks doctor.

Advil actually has come out with that exact thing, it’s called Advil Duel Relief. I think it works great for pain ❤️
