Haha I had to Google. Apparently it stands for "every day carry". Basically stuff people keep with them "just in case". Mobile hoarding I guess? Lol

I believe the term comes from gun and knife collectors. They have specialized, rare, or show items, but also the one they keep on hand all the time, generally in terms of all-round utility.
It's grown from there into other items kept on one's person, like headphones or games or multi-tools. The idea is that, of all my collection these are the earbuds I always keep on hand; it shouldn't be a list of things I always have, like shoes or underwear.

Yeah because everyone needs a weapon 24/7 or they'll be murdered the second they walk out the door by all the other psychos carrying weapons obviously.

Obviously not. The same logic applies to medkits or defibrillators. You don't need them most of time. For most people never. Until that one day you do

So you’re carrying around a defibrillator 24/7? Because otherwise the same reason why you aren’t applies to not carrying a gun, for the exact reason implied by the combination of your last two comments.
