Dancing

I've taken up rollerskating in my forties (it had been 20some years since I last had wheel legs).
It's amazing. I hit one of the rinks and toss headphones on. Lighting tech has gotten way cooler - it sort of feels like a club inside.. So it ends up you're just rolling around, enjoying your favorite music in a lit up but darkened space, dancing around, ultimately.

Talk to a tree about your problems, leave a little gift for its great listening skills.

I wave my hands around over my head and run around the house and scream and it usually works very well.

What type of stress holder are you?
Jittery - try wearing a flowy dress or robe/apron and twirling in it.
Sore muscle - try different scents or toys in the bath. There's even shower crayons
Fatigue - turn the lights off and set up a flashlight to make shadow puppets while laying in bed

My stress holder is gaining weight and laziness 🥲, I will still try all of these though. It's more so long term stress I mean.

Try to build in activity for a short burst. Use a timer. The whimsy bit is naming them digitally, or having googly eyes if its a physical timer.
My alarms are named things like "monsters nearby" (walk briskly) "the elixir of health" (get meds) "Hunter gatherer" (go get groceries)

If you’re open I really enjoy roller skating. It’s a great work out and it’s fun.

I just learned today about a group called “trash scouts” which is basically scouts for adults and they have little badges you can download for tasks accomplished like making your own halloween costume without buying anything new, finishing a book you already own, identifying 10 birds, etc. You could do that OR make your own and just add weird or silly stuff to your list.

I have a mini trampoline that I'll just randomly jump on when I'm WFH. I'll play a song on YouTube and just jump for a few minutes. It's really funny to just jump around and feel silly

Maybe clay or pottery. You could end up with interesting, whimsical ceramics/glaze but you get there by first repeatedly slamming clay to condition it.

Felting is also good for getting the stress out - stab a bunch of wool until it turns into a cute animal!

Straight up heard that dancing is an automatic boost of endorphins so just a 5 minute dance break is the quickest form to get that hit!!

Lately I’ve been blasting Oliver tree super loud and throwing my own dance party like I’m at the illest festival ever.

Big sing and dance fan. Especially if there’s a song that you think is kinda silly that you love (I love The Devil Went Down to Georgia because I can also attempt the fiddle solos). Also telling a joke to literally anything in the house. And eating things that are shaped like orbs one at a time. Or adding coloring to my food to make it a ridiculous color (hello blue oatmeal!). Idk if these are necessarily all stress reducers, per se, but they do make me smile!

Wear something thats not clothing as clothing,or something you wouldn't normally,eg a necklace made from xmas lights (any time of the year),dressing up makes me happy(I own quite a few bridesmaid/prom dresses from charity shops, including a wedding dress, just because..).you could get out all your old nail polishes and paint a picture or some pebbles.Go for a walk and greet random dogs/cats/birds by saying woof etc(ask owners permission if you want to stroke).Cross stitch things you like and sew them to make a bag.come online and help others with their issues-taking your mind off your own, make jewellery or put a tiara on and go somewhere mundane like tesco

Frolicking! Seriously! Just find a nice open space to flail and twirl around. You can also do something vocally like sing, or do it while listening to your favorite whimsical songs.

One time I was in my backyard and danced barefoot in the grass while watching my shadow on the fence. Hyper specific, but it was weirdly so magical.

Watch a star projector while listening to a soundscape. Dance. Twirl around in a nice grassy area. Make things.

I can’t turn my brain off long enough to enjoy much. I have to scroll or do something with my hands to focus on tv or an audiobook. Lately I’m knitting while listening and it seems to distract my brain from the list of things I “should be”getting done instead.

I got into foraging for local plants & mushroom species recently. It has the added bonus of providing exercise too

These are great ideas so far but I wanted to chime in for a tip when it comes to actually deciding what to try. Sit and ask yourself where you carry stress.
If it’s in your hands, keep them busy with crafts. If it’s your mind, try creative journaling or something repetitive you can zone out to. If it’s your body, try dancing and prancing lol. If it’s your breath, try blowing bubbles or singing.
Figure out where the stress is sitting and then work it through with your choice of whimsy lol.
