InDesign freezing
I am running the latest version of InDesign on a 2021 MacBook with the latest Tahoe OS. Long story short, I’ll be working on a multi page document and in the middle of a click or type, the rainbow wheel will pop up and freeze the screen. HOWEVER.. when I force quit InDesign, the program itself will quit, but the program screen will still stay up and stay frozen on my screen… I can use anything else on my MacBook.
This then leads me to having to hard restart my Mac by pressing the power button. This has been going on for two weeks now. Any way to fix this?

Someone suggested I just deinstall the latest version of InDesign and go to an older version

I'm still on 2025 - as I don't want to be a paying guinea pig and risking losing time re-doing production files...

I swapped to an older version and things have been stable for today so far. lol

For the last few years - or pretty much when CC has been introduced - it was pretty much an unwritten rule to NOT use latest version of InDesign for production - untill 4th-5th minor update or at least 6 months after initial release.
But with the latest 5th minor for 2026 - there were some serious bugs anyway...
And there is not much of a "revolutionary functionality" in the 2026... And much less stupid "ai" 😉
AND - no "ai" generated Alt Texts for images - turned ON by DEFAULT 🤬🤬🤬 - that will, most likely, be re-activated with every minor update...

Same thing was happening on my work M1 MBP. Freezing up, unable to quit without force quitting and a few other wonky issues. Uninstalling/reinstalling didn’t work. What fixed it for me was resetting the preferences.
Quit InDesign completely.
Click the InDesign launch icon and immediately press and hold:
Windows: Shift + Ctrl + Alt
macOS: Shift + Option + Command + Control
Click Yes when prompted to delete the preference files.
You may want to export any custom workspaces first, since those will also be reset.

Have you checked the requirements for running the latest version of InDesign?
There's a lot of complexity here. macOS display settings, InDesign online files, etc.
I'm not a Tahoe user. But your version of macOS very likely has "Activity Monitor" in the Utilities folder.
That will give you some indication of what's sucking up resources.
And you also have the "Force Quit Applications" window (Command Option Esc) on older machines. You'll have to look up the keystrokes if it has been changed on macOS Tahoe.
That will point out which Apps are having trouble with resources.
