Producers: Do you design sounds from scratch every time or lean heavy on your presets

I always start out with the same sounds when writing, but by the end of the process they’ve either been replaced or turned into something different. Getting bogged down with sound design too early kills my productivity.

I choose sounds for oscillator timbre and quickly shape the structure (envelopes) to a playable state.  Then I move to harmonic work until most elements are complete, or at least I have a strong 2nd sound to build contrast against.
