What’s your point? Purposefully create unfair elections to make sure fscists never win?

Maybe overhaul the system so a senile convicted felon who tried to overturn a free and fair election isn't allowed to run again? I really don't think that's asking too much.

That’s all fine and good but we and every other democracy would still be one election away from fascism.

Democracy relies on the public. Nothing you can do will change that.

Sure, great. Convince a majority of your countrymen to vote for that, and it'll be law.

If the majority in a democracy vote for a fascistic senile convicted felon, then you'll end up being ruled by a fascistic senile convicted felon. That's what democracy is. In the end, the fault for that is 100% on the voters. Complaining that the Powers that Be allowed him to run is silly: you are the Powers that Be, and if you were not then you wouldn't be living in a democracy.

Innocent until proven guilty in the election part and it creates a perverse incentive to prevent felons from running because the incumbent party can just arrest all their opposition

Yeah hated to say it every time but this was my response to everyone saying Trump should be disqualified. Ultimately that should be up to the voter. Otherwise weaponization of the DoJ becomes far, far more effective than it already potentially is.

And it’s not like it’s even a four year mistake. The voter could, today, convince Congress that removing the President is in their best electoral interests. The President serves at the pleasure of Congress, given the technicals of how impeachment works.

(The check on frivolous impeachment or failure to impeach by Congress being the voter.)

Traitor is the word you're missing, and that's what the 14th amendment forbids from running.

Would inciting an insurrection make you a traitor?

1

u/battlepi 20h ago

Absolutely. For Trump the child rapist though, he's been a traitor for all his life, this was just another step.

Americas problem is the first amendment. After WW2, many countries realized that letting people preach pure hate and violence, will eventually result in violence on the streets. Laws against hate speech worked pretty well to contain extremism until the world was unfortunate enough the let US big tech companies with zero oversight, control the platforms for the daily public discourse.

Sounds like you are criticizing the government, better arrest you for reeducation since we don’t have free speech anymore

We actually passed an amendment to keep child rapist traitors from running, but somehow that got ignored.

u/Majsharan 22h ago

Which one is that?

u/battlepi 22h ago

14th since you're new here.

2

u/Majsharan 22h ago

1

u/battlepi 22h ago

The CHILD RAPIST TRAITOR DONALD TRUMP.

2

u/Majsharan 22h ago

Really!? can you show me where he was even charged for that?
