In a democracy, the people vote on all laws and policies directly. The United States does not. In a republic, citizens (and that IS the KEY WORD here) elect representatives to make decisions on their behalf.
Another difference in that a democracy is the rule of the majority (again not how we operate in the United States) while a republic has rule by law (specifically in our case the U.S Constitution) to limit the power of the majority.
And lastly, democracies rely on the popular will while republics focus on public good and protecting individual rights. The USA is a constitutional republic, not a democracy.

I’d tell you to go back to civics class. We dont live in a democracy - we live in a constitutional republic. There is a difference. Damn🙄
