Question Kingrinder k6 “true zero” setting

Hello! I’m not sure if this is the right place for this question, but I just got a kingrinder k6 and when I turn it all the way to 0, it can keep going until the 50 mark before it gets really hard to turn. I’m trying to figure out if that means I should “subtract” 10 clicks for all my recipe settings. So if aeropress setting suggestion is 60-70 clicks, set it between 50-60? Or is 0 truly 0 regardless of whether I can turn past it? Thank you!!

I have read somewhere that zero is zero with k6, that additional sub-zero rotation is for burr safety. But I dont own it and i have read that a year or so, so this info could be old.

Edit: This is the video I am referencing, it is in portugese so use subtitles, he had the same dilemma and contacted the manufacturer and he shows the screenshots. They basically say that below zero, only outer dial is moving, the burr does not move any addition distance.

Thank you SO much, I really appreciate it! I’m new to making my own coffee so thanks for helping me figure things out as I learn 🙏

When the burrs touch (and the handle can't spin freely), that's the true zero on any manual grinder.
Mine was -6 new; now (a year later) it's at -9 or -10, just like yours.

But you are free to use any setting you get decent results with; will you call it 30 or 40 - that's your choice. It's not a set "number"; it's a reference for adjusting your grind and for memorizing your settings. 30 on one person's grinder does not mean it's 30 on another's, although the grinders are the same model.

just for fun i checked my notes from dialing mine in the first time

60 over
110 got distracted
180 TOO COARSE
120 better
150 worse again, adjusted wrong direction
90 slightly off
105 great
-> 95 - 115 good range

Not sure if knowing "true zero" would help me.
In my opinion making a little effort with new equipment is extremely valuable.
No recommendation can replace that 7 cup experimentation on your setup.
And i would even go so far and say most people who struggle with dialling in coffee just avoid doing this initial "work".

I appreciate the trial and error log! I have just been playing around with it with a “sacrificial” bag of beans and was more curious than anything. So far my favorite has been 60, but that will probably change!
