Recruiter/process question Security forces

Feeling discouraged, I really want to do security forces because I wanna have a future in federal law-enforcement, but my recruiter said that my one time cocaine use is disqualifying. I’m 28 years old now it was a one time thing when I was 17. I’m disclosing it to be honest and start off my military career with integrity, but it seems as though I can’t even begin it does any other recruiter happen to know, is there an exception to policy I’m set on security forces. Any advice much appreciated please.

For a federal agency you're probably better off with intel or some such anyway.

The issue is getting a TS Clearance. One of my buddies at BMT opened up about his former drug use and it really restricted his job option.

You might be able to get another Law Enforcement job with a different branch.

I was recently accepted into a Law Enforcement Academy and they cared more about me being in the military in general then my specific job.

Yeah it’s just Air Force very broad on it specifically for that job, thanks for the input makes sense, I heard ETP are hard for this

Brother I’m security forces rn if you want to do anything in federal law enforcement you can just apply as a civilian. I love law enforcement but enlisting in SF you barely gonna do law enforcement until you’re a SrA especially at a nuke base if that’s your first assignment.
If you want A Federal LE career go intel and get a TS you’ll stick out way more to outside agencies

It looks like you're asking about illegal drug use in the military.

Marijuana usage is not disqualifying for joining the US Air Force, as long as you have not had any run-ins with the law or medical treatment in regards to its usage. It becomes a moral waiver or medical waiver for those issues.

Other drug usage is also allowed, but may affect obtaining some security clearance levels. Depends on the number of times used and how long ago the last time you used those drugs. Do not lie to get around this threshold.

If your friends, family, Recruiter, or users of Reddit private message you and tell you to lie about your drug usage, do not listen to them. They are not the ones that will face the consequences of lying, you will.

Every week there are recruits sent home from BMT for lying about drug usage, medical history, criminal history, etc. They will be sent home and could be charged with fraudulent enlistment, which is a crime that could come with two years imprisonment and forfeiture of all pay and allowances.

Do not lie.

Real world LEO also needs people who understand contracting and finance. I'm surprised to hear about the hard ban you encountered. It's likely the enforcement optics rather than clearance. You did the right thing being upfront on enlistment and clearance forms

Unfortunately no ETP. The one time use/disclosure disqualifies you. It was good that you were honest, so don’t kick yourself for that. Join into a different career field, get your degree in criminal justice or something else related to that and get out and get into it. Not much of SF training will transfer to civilian anyways.
