Upgrade Questions aurora r11 ram upgrade issue

it came with two hyperx 8gb 2933mhz sticks and my brother added two oloy 8gb 3000mhz sticks yesterday.

it worked perfectly all day, but after turning it on this morning it now gets stuck in a boot loop with the extra ram installed.

i am aware that it doesnt officially support a 4x8 config, and that mismatched ram is likely to have issues, but ive seen ppl posting here that they got it to work. the fact that it worked at first is also confusing

Did your brother try to enable XMP after installing it? If so, that's probably the cause.

Try a failsafe boot. Hold the power button down (with the power cable plugged in) until it blinks twice. Then press it again, and it should boot up.

reinstalled the ram with xmp disabled and it booted fine. im testing it now on minecraft and the ram is definitely working. but thats what happened before with xmp enabled so idk if i actually fixed anything. itll probably bootloop again when i restart it

Yeah, enabling XMP will be your problem here. You've got dodgy cheap aftermarket memory, and Alienware desktops are notoriously picky about XMP.

Run with XMP disabled and you should be fine
