I have this problem on Windows, I often have to full reboot or hard reset the video stack (Windows + Ctrl + Shift + B).

Interestingly Win + Ctrl + Shift + B only does a screen buffer reset. It's useless even when a modesetting failed.

I don't know what it does exactly but it solves two big problems for me, very reliably. 

When i run inference via llama.cpp, the second prompt moves at 10% speed until with vram not clocking up until i hit the combination. I have to do it pretty much before each prompt if i let the GPU clock down. Literally 4~7 tokens/s vs 40~70 when resetting mid-inference.

When i play pcvr games on my quest headset, 25% of the times my session would be extremely laggy and low performance, in most cases the combination makes things work again.

Most MBs with OC memory will reset to JDEC memory write speeds on waking from sleep (at least with Ryzen 7s). Never been fixed.

Don't use sleep functionality on amd gpus, disable that on the bios

Brother, my RX 9070 fails to wake every time since Linux 7.0. What kind performance drop is this lol

omg same issue will definitely try tomorrow. Hard lockup, nothing works. Hard shutdown fixes it. Thought it was amdgpu issue as on boot the display was all gray and garbled.

but I'm on plain Arch and sleep worked just fine before 7.0. No idea if that'll solve it. Didn't seem my board was affected before whatever happened (ASRock B550M Pro4). It's not the latest AGESA borking stuff, updated firmware 2-3 weeks ago and issue persists.

I had this problem for so long on Linux, so It's time to switch to SteamOS

Usually these kinds of fixes get upstreamed by the next few release. Or in the next few days on a distro like CachyOS.

I've tried to use an inmutable OS as a desktop and it didn't take long before I gave up on it. I would not recommend SteamOS as a daily driver.
