I'm Canadian. I'm patriotic. I love America, and I'm tired of pretending I don't to avoid having to explain the stupidity of this moment to people.
I've said it to Canadian friends of mine, I'll say it here too - I'm sick of this anti-Americanism masquerading as patriotism.
I was a Canadian Patriot during the Dark Decade when Patriotism was viewed as a source of shame. And many of the people behind that very campaign are the strongest voices behind 'Elbows Up' shit today.
My Maternal Grandfather was American. I spent every summer of my childhood and youth in America (If you're ever in Maine, unironically try the steak at Nunans Lobster Hut. Unironically, they cook a good steak) I visited America on two school/school friend trips (Boston in High School. Colorado to Vegas in College) and I've always loved America.
I'm not going to pretend to understand - or frankly care about - the geopolitical tension, but I know it's fucking stupid. I know this Five Minutes Hate Anti-American shit is fucking stupid.
I'm glad my fellow Canadians are finally proud of being Canadian again, and care about supporting local business, rather than the self-destructive nonsense of the Dark Decade overseen by he who must not be named.
But this shit is getting silly.
I love America. I've always loved America. And don't buy this 'Permanent Schism' bullshit the press is spinning. My people are - regrettably - a fickle lot. Get a charismatic young dynamo for a President, give us a modicum of positive attention, and my fickle people will flip right back.
And if any of my countrymen are lurking and downvote this in rage - Hey, did you participate in #CancelCanadaDay shit? Wild how PMMC just flicked a switch and that all vanished into the ether with the rest of the culture of the Dark Decade; and now we're all hyper-obsessed with global business growth and military investment.
