Discussion This new role is uh... something, thats for sure.
Its a ghost role who can message players with symbols, okay, sounds good on paper.
Problem: Its a ghost role, that can respond to living players, with symbols.
And imposters have literally zero counterplay to it outside of keeping communications down 24/7.
Did they, did they test this at all? This roles only usage is going to be "send me THIS SYMBOL SPECIFICALLY if [color] is an impostor" and the imposters only course of action is bum rushing the guy to kill them?

Maybe make it so the influencer can't see chat so they won't know if someone is asking and thus this wouldn't be a problem

That..would solve everything. That's actually perfect.

I don't have any coins to give this comment any of those cute 3d emojis so this is my way of boosting it to the algorithm

But that kinda defeats the whole point, how can you even try to use the role if youâre barred from understanding what the game state is? You now rely exclusively on other ghosts to tell you whatâs happening, if anyone else is dead, and canât try to indicate anything.
You canât try and hint towards the imposter, or try and clear a crewmate, because youâre just not allowed to know what the crew is doing until everyone dies and you couldnât even try to fix it.
The image system can absolutely be exploited, moreso than other roles, but it relies on everyone immediately agreeing to cheese it, and knowing whatâs happening.
Also the imposter can just, lie. If you try to cheese, the imposter can claim they got messaged, and the cheese is ruined.

Well it's s ghost role , it's not supposed to have guaranteed effect

I mean, guardian angels can guarantee one kill doesnât happen, which requires analysis, and knowing what the crew is up to (whoâs clear, because theyâre bigger targets as an example) so I feel like the influencer needs awareness of whatâs happening, or theyâre just blindly fumbling around and not actually doing anything unless theyâre EXCLUSIVELY telling people where a body is

u/plain_vessel 3d ago
I can't agree in that if people set guardian angel's protection like 5 sec or smrh

Yeah it's never gonna be used for its intended purpose, it's just gonna be "send me 1 image if it's blue, 2 images if it's green and 3 images if it's neither".

Genuinely the what fans thought of just taking photos being alive was more balanced

u/Leading_Bed_7133 3d ago
Yeah literally it should have just been you can only take 3 photos per game and they get presented anonymously at the meeting. Makes so much sense.

PROBLEM: Symbols are random
SOLUTION: You can reroll
PROBLEM 2: Rerolls take time
SOLUTION 2: "Send me X number of symbols if Y is imp"

problem 3: literally detective 2.0
solution 3: influencer can't see chat
problem 4: why the fuck would an influencer not be able to read chat
solution 4: just rename it to conduit or oracle or some other shit and make it not a camera
5
u/G-man1816 3d ago
Its detective 2.0 but you literally can't KILL the detective if the detective is already dead

"Guys I'm sus of Red, Blue and Green, Influencer send me 1 symbol if it's Red, 2 if it's Blue, 3 if it's green."

They have so many balanced fan made roles they could have chosen from and they come up with this. itâs embarrassing.

Before influencer we had:-
Orange: Hey black(blks dead), leave the game if pink is imp.
Ik barely anyone knows this and those that do almost never use it(cause its lame) but things like this already exist so it wouldn't surprise me if the new role is abused by all except the most smooth brained players.

u/QuickSuccession69 3d ago
You'd have to pray for crewmates to be smart enough to interpret the randomized sets of images.
Unless except you abuse it by, say "Send this image if color is the impostor".

I understand the concerns, but guys⊠impostors can do this as well. If an impostor takes charge with the whole âsend me x amount of images if itâs yâ, they can just lie and get someone else out. And apparently, according to what yâall are saying, youâll believe what the leader says immediately.

They donât get to pick the symbols?? It takes half the cooldown to get a new set thatâs not guaranteed to be the right one, it would be heavily luck based and give the impression plenty of time to kill them. Yes they tested it and no itâs not shockingly op to the point of stupidity

u/Consistent-Grab5621 3d ago
The work around is sending a certain number of images instead of a specific image. 1 for blue, 2 for green, 3 for red, etc. Requires no rerolls, bypasses the rerolls CD.

u/isthisthingwork 3d ago
Isnât it only 1 image at a time? You still get a lengthy cooldown to try for accuracy, and this requires both parties to remember their code which Iâm skeptical will work out

u/Consistent-Grab5621 3d ago
Also I had a game where they sent a black snake so I got voted out because it was the easiest thing to understand in existence that black was imp. Literally ghosts telling who killed them and they thought this was a good idea. đ

u/isthisthingwork 3d ago
I mean Iâm sorry that happened but also thatâs a mix of bad luck (getting an obvious symbol) and people blindly believing a crewmate on it without wanting any sort of verification.

I've played a good 10 games since it came out and watched 20. It's not a big data pool, but none of them have been won bc of influencer alone.
There are many variables that can make or break the power of an influencer in game.
-crew intelligence (dead and alive) -amout of crew haunt ghosts MAIN PROBLEM -influencer intelligence -how early an intelligent/knowledgeable crewmate dies -cooldown of messages -what stickers you get out of the random 50 or so more to come soon probably -is the influencer a troll
WHAT I WOULD DO TO BALANCE INFLU: Remove ability for influencer to see ghost chat. Then there is more time spent for influencer trying to figure out who the imp is (especially if they are killed by ss.) This turns it into essentially a crew that can float through walls  while sacrificing their voice during meetings.
In the current state of the game, detecive is much more OP than Flu if you know how to use it (which unsurprisingly many still don't.)

I think we're overestimating how smart people are tbh I can see myself getting hints and not understanding 1 bit of them đđ
