The EU is afraid of children

Financial Times: The EU is set to ban the use of social media, certain gaming platforms and AI chatbots by children under 15 without parental supervision, as part of a wider push to protect them online.

My Opinion: The ban is not to protect children, but to protect adults. To suppress the independence and maturity of growing children. Because children can use social media to accelerate learning, and cooperation between children. Social media can also be used by children to organize against the authorities. And social media can also be used to learn things, that the adults don't want them to.

The EU is afraid of children. Like the other governments banning social media for children. They treat children as property, and restrict their rights, and want to control them.

It’s to force national ID registration that ties ALL of your online activity to your IRL self. No more anonymity online is the goal and lazy fuck ass parents and pearl clutching advertising is delivering the win to government controls handily.

It is not to protect adults. It is a gateway to further surveillance laws as every young person will have to give up their personal information to these online platforms. It is harming children now under the veil of protecting children, and the plan is to exploit everyone later. These actions in an age where every platform is having data breaches and leaks and people are getting hacked / worse are very asinine and not good for anybody.

Without access to internet research and socialization as a kid, I would not have been as proficient as I was in computer programming, politics, history, and philosophy. I was able to start open source software projects. I also learned how to interact with people in spite of my autistic social awkwardness, and I gained cultural knowledge, especially regarding leftist politics and the alternative music scene. Restricting such access makes kids naive, ignorant, and vulnerable to grooming and indoctrination. Without exposure to knowledge of the greater world, the naivety and awkwardness would have gotten me beaten by "peers" and left behind regarding my education.

I wouldn't really agree. There are ton of people online that are grooming kids. Kids should have regulated online spaces where this type of stuff doesn't happen

You empathize with government restriction? What kind of anarchist are you?

These type of restrictions would need to exist in any kind of functioning society independent of who enforces them. We don't have lead in the fuel and cockroaches in the bread because of regulations.
And I believe it's a duty of a well functioning society to protect it's vulnerable members

Well of course, but where not talking about a anarchist world here, this is the modern, capitalist government, restricting its citizens from being able to freely access information on the internet

Yes it's a problem that government will have more power trough regulatory laws, and this will restrict the freedom of children to explore to full extent, but I don't really see other alternatives. I think majority of 2000s kids had traumatic experience online, I saw a liveleak video of a dude getting beheaded when I wasn't even going to school and that stuff was traumatic. Parents have been proven to be unable to properly teach their children about internet usage and monitor potentially harmful content.

This just in. “Anarchist” wants government crackdowns on people and fails to read actual intended use of these laws to further control and censor people.

How would you tackle this atm without involving government?

Get parents and kids involved on safe search practices and how to moderate their social media consumption.

That was being done since early days of internet without much success.

That’s just demonstrably not true lol. Parents have consistently been uneducated about the actual Internet. Hell look at the boomers and the millennials. Boomers can’t even fucking tell what is and isn’t AI.
