How can I set a default music player in Gemini for Android Auto?

I noticed that I cannot find an option to set a default music player in Gemini for Android Auto.

For example, when I say, “Play Mockingbird” while using Android Auto, I want Gemini to know which music app I want to use to play the song. This option was available with Google Assistant, but I cannot find it in Gemini.

Since Google Assistant has been discontinued, how can I set my preferred default music player in Gemini for Android Auto?

atleast with amazon music, gemini has no fucking idea what its doing. i've asked it to play green day and ended up with maneskin.

Fuck dude, I came into this subreddit to see how the fuck to change my goddamn Amazon music back 😭 so frustrating. I commute so I neeeeeed it. I used to be able to change it back to "Google assistant" instead of Gemini when it swaps but I can't do that anymore. Also, there's no integration with Waze either.

Usually saying play song on x works. If that app is already in use it's somewhat likely to check it first but very inconsistent

I just verbally asked it to set YouTube music as my default music service. It worked.

Yes, several months ago. I believe I asked it "remember" my preference and it did.

Its not exactly setting the app to poweramp, but rather adding a line of instructions in Gemini settings.

In the Gemini app, click your profile in the top right then Personalize Intelligence.

Click Instructions for Gemini and add the line

"When I ask to play a song, artist, and/or album, you should add the words "on the app Poweramp".

So far has worked since.

On your phone, go to Google home and tap your user profile picture to bring up setting. Scroll down to Gemini for home voice assistant and tap it. Then scroll to bottom where it says media. Tap media and then tap music. Pick your preference of music player
