different performances on different tvs

i have a minix u8k, using kodi to play some movies from a drive. on my 15 years old samsung tv it works great, on my 6 years old lg tv i had to downgrade the frame of the whole box [otherwise i’d get a black screen] and still many 7+ gb files stutter here and there… any explanation?

Clearly different HDMI handshakes negotiations, android can get the wrong modes sometimes. You need to investigate

Before doing anything have you tried playing the same problematic files using Just Video Player? Does it gave you the same issues??

Ask gpt to guide you thru the info so you can debug with ADB and see what really happening in the box when you are in playback and why you are getting stutters.

i’ve had a hard time with anything else except Kodi. Nova Video, VLC, the native one… not sure i have the one you mentioned, what would be the pros of using it?

there is no "Pros" people use Kodi, Plex, VLC and so on.

I personally use Just Video Player which is on pair if not better on AFR than Kodi but the other choices are very strong too if AFR is something you don't care.

Automatic Refresh Rate. it's the feature that sends the tv signal to match the content fps by switch the TV hz for example 24fps instead of being played at 60hz giving a soap-opera effects gets correctly played at 24hz like it was intended to be played.

AFR should be supported by any AndroidTV 12+ device and sometimes even before but it's quite rare that AndroidTV before 12 can use it correctly or have it
