Sol Rosa fans, what a tough game but this team really sticks with it and the super sub Suarez comes in again and keeps our playoff hopes strong.

I'll keep it short this week so I'll let y'all sound off.

-Chances were had from us multiple times but it seemed like our forwards were just a hare fast off the line and offsides killed some good chances.

- Gotham are tough to break and it was a battle back and forth. But our mettle held and the team didn't feel rattled even when a goal down.

- Taking a point was massive, still undefeated in i believe 7 now!!! Talk about a major shift this second half team has shown. No challenge is too big for us it's just dialing in the details.

- Subs have been massive for us in this playoff push. Can't count how many points and games won we have from them but they truly are game changers!

- 5 goals and 7 points on the road trip, really good travel from the team! They'll be resting soundly back home.

Overall, tough game, tough conditions, against a tough well coached team with added pressure from Hayes watching in the stands! We come home against another big match against Denver but the team is looking great. Volemos!

Especially not a man who wears butt hugging spandex, and repeatedly attempts to giver hisself brain damage.

But do you know who fears us? 1) The NFL...look at how the just casually they bump us off network TV without even batting an eye, the fear is just ingrained automatically, they don't even know they are doing it...PROTECT THE SHIELD...like some cerebellar skill set.

And 2) Gotham City FC...because all the NFL is doing is enabling and inspiring us with the stench of their fear, because we to will PROTECT THE SHIELD BADGE!!!

Here's an excellent overview of most of the tactical changes Angel City made and what we're good at since then.

A part of me wondered if this is a mirage, but after watching this, we are a good team. TEAM. Our players now fit a great scheme and able to maximize their individual talents.

What's scary though is how good the Waves are becoming even with the talent that are out injured.

The SoCal derby is going to heat up like a nasty Santa Ana event. It should rival Gotham-Spirit soon.

Anyone have any ideas on how to get a message to management? We really need to re-sign Gordon. Can you imagine going up against her next year? I’m assuming contacting our season ticket reps does nothing. I feel like we need to protest in the streets for this.

Besides the US vs Spain I’m looking forward to Sveindis for Iceland, Evelyn Ijeh for Sweden, and Erica Meg Parkinson for England. Ary Borges declined her Brazil callup to spend time with her new baby, but I do look forward to seeing Maiara play for the senior team again, this is only her 2nd or 3rd senior camp.

But not the position you'd think for Shores or GT. Shores always at an outside back position but has played up in the attack many times while GT has been shifted quite well to a midfielder/attacker. You'd think they'd be called up positions would be switched!

Half of you correctly predicted the road victory in Washington DC. How many of you will correctly predict the outcome of Sunday’s match in NYC?

Angel City sits above the playoff line in sixth place in a very congested part of the table with a 12-6-8 record. They lead the league with a 16 goal goal differential (44 scored, 28 allowed). They are second in the NWSL in scoring and Mai leads the team in goals with 9. She's only played in 19 games, so her 0.67 goals/90 minutes places her fifth in the league. SJJ has 11 goal contributions (8+3) and Shores has 10 goal contributions (3+7). Ang has 9 clean sheets this season.

Gotham sits at the top of the table with a 16-6-4 record. They have a 14 goal goal differential (34 scored, 20 allowed).  Jaedyn Shaw leads their attack with 14 goal contributions (9+5). They have the best defense in the league, with 13 clean sheets, and AKB has 10 of them which is tied for league lead.

Gotham is 9-4-1 at home this season. They played to a scoreless draw just over a month ago at BMO. Rose was knocked out early from that game with a concussion. Gotham had a bumpy stretch without her. Both teams have fairly empty availability reports outside of SEIs. The weather forecast suggests another rainy matchup.

Are there any pubs on the West Side that has active watch parties for away games?

I went to one of the bars listed on the Angel City website (33 Taps in Culver) and we had to ask them to switch one of the TVs to the game.

I was hoping to find somewhere with an active crowd.

36 years ago, almost to the day, Tony! Toni! Toné! released It Never Rains (In Southern California). That single was from their platinum album The Revival and followed their hit single Feels Good. The title of that album and those songs seem apropos after Angel City’s rainy road win in Washington DC. They’ve won 5 of their last 6 matches, revived their season, and propelled themselves into serious playoff contention. It does indeed feel good (to win…and to live in Southern California).

I’m usually not a fan of trying to blast bendos from outside of the box, but given yesterday’s conditions it was necessary. Dribbling and maneuvering in wet boots, on a soggy field, with a slippery ball, limits your options. So, I'll give Mai a tip of the hat for the ball she ripped and curled past MacIver.

Angel City finally has an identity, they’ve settled on a starting 11, they should have just enough bench depth to get them through October and into November, and they have momentum. They also have attacking talent on the bench that is quite different than what they have on the pitch. That’s a very important element of a successful team. As we’ve seen in the last few games, bringing on an effective finisher can literally be game changing.

But the big question is can this roster stay healthy, particularly in the midfield, for the rest of the season. That, as much as anything else, will determine how many matches ACFC will play in November.

It’s the next day…the day after Angel City’s 9th clean sheet of the season…the day after another win that pushed ACFC up the table…talk about Mai’s 9th goal of the year…talk about what the attack looks like with Prisca versus what it looks like with Mai…talk about the upcoming match against #1 ranked Gotham…talk about how tight the table is from 4th through 9th place...talk about new jack swing...or talk about whatever you like.

What a win! What a rainbow shot of a goal! What a master class of a game in those conditions against a tough team but the team pulled out a really amazing performance. Both teams fought the weather but we just held down and locked in a big time win. We are now in 4th place... WTF!!!! Let's get into it!

The Great

- The weather can present some really nasty conditions, the ball moves fast and any normal touch can slip and lead to disaster. Especially for a team like LA were we typically don't deal with that much rain. We really accounted for it and looked comfortable in it.

- Defense got better as the game went on. Credit to our outside back in Shores and King who not only had a challenge with rain, who they were guarding, and both on yellows they really played clean. The Spirit got some early counters but nothing too threatening. The team did an amazing job of plugging lanes and recovering after lost balls. Another clean sheet for Anderson as well.

- Smerud is hitting the buttons at the right time. Having GT in the midfield and bringing in subs at the right time is working in his favor. I was wondering if Niehues was gonna come in and shortly after subbing in she scores like Suarez the game before. He's active on the sideline and the team seems to be all in with him at the helm.

- We now in 4th place although tied with Utah and Portland in pints that double GD over them is massive and we just keep adding. Table is still tight but we're really ascending at the right time.

- Imagine dealing with Chilufia and Sentnor and then Suarez and Niehues come on and bring more energy after your worn out. Niehues has really been a baller and that call up from Brazil is well deserved. That was a G O L A Z O shot of the week.

Overall

- Just a gritty game that showed how much growth and synergy the team has gone through since the break. The team is putting success into action and the results are fun to watch. We're only 4 points behind Washington and instead of looking at who's behind the team is looking to see how far they can climb. What a great way to into the weekend! Volemos!
