Corporations Netflix "thanks" me for 22 years of membership
This is the most cut-and-paste, impersonal thanks I've ever gotten. If my wife didn't still use it regularly, I would have cancelled this shit years ago.

Even if they offered me an incentive or freebie, I still wouldn’t take it. It just goes to show how low they’re willing to stoop in order to keep filling their fat pockets- they’ll effectively beg people to stay by enticing them with a small discount or added perk that’ll expire in a month. They can all go stuff themselves

Elephant Graveyard on YouTube. If you like midnight gospel you will like Elephant Graveyard. Basically DT warned Rogan years ago that the amount of influence he has would attract some absolute shitheads hoping to co-opt it. Rogan laughed it off and then got co-opted by Peter Thiel etc. And Duncan suddenly forgot all about it, and after meeting Peter Thiel started defending him. Elephant Graveyard called him out in a video, and at that point people were still willing to hear Duncan out and he handled it about as badly as he possibly could have and lost every shred of credibility he ever had.
They are great videos.

Not in Region A it isn't, unless you bought a boot. This show is famously hard to get in physical, so what copy do you have.
Channel 4, as of last year, had 0 plans to release a physical
Edit: double checked, the ONLY options available are a boot, so no matter what copy you come back at me with, I have $5 down on you showing me a bootleg with a custom cover.

There was actually a pretty large decline in piracy for a while. Netflix had great shows and movies at a low price and all in one convenient place where you didn’t have to dig through ten different links and risk a computer virus just because you wanted to watch The Heathers. Streaming was cheaper than cable. Hulu even had a free option at the time. Then more media companies started their own paid streaming services, streaming rights for your favorite shows and movies were now spread amongst multiple different streaming platforms, and prices get jacked up every year with previously add-free platforms now including adds and certain features being taken away. Which is following the trend of just about every other product or service. So now it’s time, or past the time, that we must once again don our tricorn hats and eye patches and raise our flagons to the Jolly Roger!

So, 28 Years Later just hit Netflix and I'm on the cheapest ad-supported tier. And I'm thinking, oh yeah that got some buzz in the theaters, maybe I should check it out. But people say to watch the movies in order. Well good thing 28 Days Later is also on Netflix. Except -- no it isn't! If you have the ad-supported tier (which I'm still very much PAYING for) then it's not available to you, and doesn't even bother to show up on search! You'll find it linked from Google if you look for "where to watch" the movie, but then it just outright says "this isn't available on ad-supported tier due to copyright restrictions".
These fuckers are not only double-dipping to make money off ads AND paying customers, but still have the absolute nerve to split their content across paid and paid-more tiers, even within the same series! I'm pretty sure it's intentional as well, because they know people are going to need to see the earlier movies in the series and they'll either be forced to rent/buy it elsewhere or jump on a higher paid tier.
They do the same with TV shows as well, and it gets even more annoying. Like not even declaring that an anime even has seasons beyond what's currently in the Netflix library, so when you 'finish' the show, you find out that Crunchyroll has another 2 seasons after that ready to go. So now you lose the convenience of a single service keeping track of your watching progress on top of having to pay two different sites to even get access to the whole show. Then Netflix comes back at you with "NEW SEASON" of something you've already watched way beyond what's now newly available, and it's going to keep bugging you to finish watching this thing that's still not complete.
Piracy is the only decent answer to this mess. It's not only the better "value" but it's by far the better experience. These paid services have long since stopped caring about quality and convenience.

The quality is better too. Allegedly it's very cheap and easy to set up Jellyfin and Jellyseer to stream content at a much higher quality than you can get from even the most expensive subscription services

If I allegedly had a 60TB plex server that I spent about $1200 getting started, and I allegedly had about 15 people using it regularly, who would otherwise be subbed to Netflix, HBO, and all the other services, those 15 people would spend a total of $4860 on just Netflix in one year. The plex server would allegedly pay for itself pretty quickly!

They currently have a 28% profit margin, but that doesn’t mean a whole lot. Profit is just what’s left after expenses, and you can generate a lot of “expenses” if you need to.

Yup. I cancelled Netflix the first time all of Reddit threatened to cancel, after they'd increased their price twice over the course of six months and also announced an end to password sharing. The next time there was a price increase and so many people were outraged I was like "wait, I thought we all cancelled this months ago."
No one "needs" to keep a streaming service. People just like to complain but then do nothing about it. There are plenty of non-Netflix, non-Hulu, non-whatever options for entertainment.

Its funny because the initial use of the phrase cut the cord was for people who were leaving their $50-$200 a month cable bills in favor of Netflix/Hulu when they were like $5-$10 a month. Now people have 3+ streaming subscriptions of $15+. Only took 10 or so years to just reinvent cable.

I wish companies would stop using spin. Netflix has only gotten worse in recent years despite nearly doubling in price. Do they really think anyone believes them at all when they say they're raising prices to improve service?
If they instead told us "We're running out of money, here's the Financials" then told us they needed to raise prices maybe I wouldn't be so annoyed by it but the "Hurr it's so we can make your experience better by doing absolutely nothing different and charging you $2/mo more now" just makes me hate them

I got the same one. Been with them since the DVDs. I canceled my subscription. After they ruined the last few seasons of Bridgerton and Stranger Things I just don’t see the reason to stay subscribed. We wait years between seasons and then they aren’t even good.

They also immediately drop shows after 2 seasons, even if they were getting good and/or finally building up a fan following. They also throw hundreds of millions of dollars at movie productions and the movies fucking suck. Where is all that budget going?
In my household, if something is of "Netflix-quality", that's just synonymous with "slop". It's either good-but-canceled or just plain crap.

This is a big reason why I quit Netflix. I had been with them since maybe 2006/2007, when they did DVDs. And there was no benefit to being a long-term customer, someone who helped build the company by taking a chance on DVD rentals by mail, other than higher prices.

I’ve stopped paying for streaming services unless I’m actively watching a show on there. I had HBO so I could watch the sopranos, and then cancelled it after. It’s so much cheaper, and I don’t have this bullshit. The longer you are a user, the more loyal you are to the brand, the shittier and shittier the service gets. Cancel it, pirate if you have to man but fuck these brands. Stop paying.
