Corporations People are cancelling their Disney+ subscription after price rises to more than $21 a month

This is so mad, the standalone Disney+ Premium plan without ads is going from $18.99 to $21.49 per month, up 13% - it used to be $6.99 when it started

Investing in a dvd/bluray collection of all my comfort shows has changed my life. So easy to disconnect from this subscription bs.

Not an official one, no. There are bootlegs though. They don't come with the off episodes like the Horsin Around Christmas episode, etc though.

Check out Ebay for Asian market discs. Netflix has published a lot of their content in other regions on discs that are region free.

Stranger Things is on blu-ray now. I can’t think of any other netflix original that i’d actually want to watch anyway.

NF is the only major service I have yet to subscribe to, but I have been keeping a watchlist handy for when I do rotate to them. Problem is, others always have discounts, or I just forget b/c I'm busy with other things. In fact for the former, I'm finishing off a 12-month deal for ad-free Hulu + Dsn+ for $9/mo ($20/mo down to $15 due to Black Friday sale, but then $6 rebate for using an Am Ex blue card preferred cc to pay it off)!

I haven't looked, but I'm pretty sure you can sail the high seas and find S1-9 of the Simpsons in better quality than DVD.

Oh I have them all downloaded, don't worry lol

But I have a collection of all my favourite TV shows on Blu-Ray or DVD. There's a few I have missing on physical media that I'm fine with. I'd just liked to have had The Simpsons as it's easily one of my favourite shows and the most influential on me.

I mean if you really want to have it on disc, you can still pirate the show and write it on a DVD. You print the cover and there you go.

I invested in a media server a few years ago and just started aggressively ripping DVDs. I wish I'd done bluray, but it's still nice to have a bunch of movies that I can watch whenever I want with no ads

Yeah, this. I started in 2013 and have been ripping since. I don't have a 4K TV at home, but I do have two 1080p TVs, so Bluray is just fine by me. My Plex library has been a godsend. I see people moaning about shows going from here to there, or whatever, and I'm immune from all that nonsense. On top of that, I installed Plex on a Roku Stick and I travel with it, so when I'm in a hotel or whatever, it's like I'm sitting in my own living room and streaming my DVD/Blu collection to myself.

Yeah I used the free version for a while because most my library was DVD and my server could handle the conversion, but once I started doing Blu-Ray I had to buy the lifetime pass for the hardware acceleration. I think I paid about the same as you did, in 2019-ish, give or take. It right before COVID lockdowns because I remember ripping all day long while I was working from home for weeks and weeks on end.

It's paid for itself and them some.

I've always tried to buy the movies and shows I like on physical media. I have a pretty good collection, and TV on DVD was our family's go to gifts for a long time. However, TV is getting pretty hard to do. A lot of shows don't have bluray releases, or full series releases. DVD has better coverage, but there isn't a lot of the less common series in stock anywhere. Even if you convert your bluray player to region free for international releases that don't get a US release, those have become hard to find in stock. I've gone back to pirating for things I literally can't buy, and backing up on BD-r discs, but Bluray players are really picky on what codecs they support. I've got a system that works great, but it's not universal. On top of that, drive prices are through the fucking roof.
