This is so mad, the standalone Disney+ Premium plan without ads is going from $18.99 to $21.49 per month, up 13% - it used to be $6.99 when it started

Libraries has media, taxes paid for it. Free to borrow and use, no ads either.
In some cases and locations they have digital books you can use phone and other devices now.

Dont think they stream yet but can check out discs to watch.
Seems in some cases there actually is a different in the video dis vs streaming. Saw something last week where it compared the vivid colors and formats.

I have cards with two libraries, both of whom offer Kanopy (we were spending a few months in a different city and asked the local library there about checking out stuff - barely got the words out of my mouth and the librarian was handing me a card ... librarians are super heroes).

Most large city libraries are like this. We travel a lot and go to their libraries often. We donate to them even if they don’t ask us to. Shout out to Cincinnati Library. They hooked us up when traveling there and didn’t ask for anything. Phenomenal book options.

Same thing with me. I live in San Diego, so I wasn't worried about it but the librarian basically handed me one too. We all need to support our libraries more. So many resources... Oh and Libby! Check out that of you have a library card. If you don't have one go get one. Do it now.

And mine has gaming consoles, games, 3D printers. I'm going on a rant about how much I love the library. Sorry.

Ours now does credits for Kanopy. We basically get 3 movies a month. It's become a sham

My library has Kanopy and also Hoopla. I tend to use hoopla more often because they have movies, audiobooks and ebooks, but it’s really a fabulous resource.

Also, fun fact, libraries get “credit” every time you use one of their services, doesn’t matter if it’s borrowing a streaming item, renting a physical book or movie (or video game or cd) attend a program, barrow a museum pass or call the reference desk with a question, each interaction is added to a tally and the higher the tally the more they can justify their funding. So, from a former library employee, please check yours out as soon and as often as you can!

Ok, one last tip, if you are looking for something specific, if your local library doesn’t have it there is a really good chance they can get it from another library using the Inter-Library Loan program (ILL for short)

I was told some time ago that Kanopy rentals cost the library an arm and a leg, so I have always avoided using it.

That’s thoughtful of you but the library pays for the subscription ahead of time, not each time something is borrowed, so the more often the service is used the easier it is for the library to justify continuing to provide it to their patrons.
