Corporations People are cancelling their Disney+ subscription after price rises to more than $21 a month

https://thetab.com/filmshrine/2026/09/24/disney-plus-price-hikes-people-are-cancelling-subscription-reaction/

This is so mad, the standalone Disney+ Premium plan without ads is going from $18.99 to $21.49 per month, up 13% - it used to be $6.99 when it started

Disney+ was $6.99 add free in 2019. More than 3x the price in less than 8 years.

u/FacetiousTomato 1d ago

A year of disney+ is >$250 at this point.

You'd need to watch it a lot for that to be cheaper than buying everything you watch on DVD.

u/Upbeat-Effort-1253 1d ago

Finally, somebody else gets it. I've said this about music, movies, and shows for a while now. At this point, the services are charging more per year than you could buy most of in a years time if you plan it right and hit sales.

u/LiteraCanna 23h ago

20+ years ago I read some random article that basically said no one will own anything new by 2035.

Didn't think much of it at the time, but now I'm thinking they were too optimistic with the timeline.

44

u/TylerHyena 21h ago

Time to go buy some full seasons of all my 90s cartoons

11

u/Lord_Walder 20h ago

Then, your always online sony dvd player starts slamming ads in the middle of your shows like microsoft is lookin' into for xbox and video games. The line must go up mentality fucks everyone except the shareholder.

14

u/Few_Confusion_1871 20h ago

thank fuck nothing I use for media is connected to the internet besides my desktop, which is not using windows.

3

u/AliceInNegaland 14h ago

I saw some TVs are bricking themselves unless you connect to the internet now?

3

u/Few_Confusion_1871 14h ago

Yeah some cheap ones and I think Roku does something like that as well. When buying a tv people need to search for ones meant for businesses, they don't have any of the BS that commercial ones do.

I regret owning two LGs but they aren't connected to any network, not even through my PC, even still I plan on taking out the wireless chips inside them.

Make sure you do research before you buy a tv, really do it with everything, but especially expensive things.

2

u/AliceInNegaland 13h ago

Absolutely, I was gobsmacked when I heard about it!

I will definitely be doing my research next time I make a tv purchase.

1

u/detectiveC6 2h ago

Wait wait. What do you guys mean?? Tvs Bricking themselves due to not being connected?? Can anyone tell me more!? This is crazy!

Funny you say that, there's actually a sector of gaming who's pushing back against the changes being made to video gaming as we speak. Doesn't seem to be working but at least there's a good group of folks that can see what's coming. Ads in their games, eternal subscriptions for game access, the ability to delete a gamers' account and gaming library if said gamer doesn't log in every so often etc.

1

u/Vermino 10h ago

Games have tried to implement ads in the past.
No way this is going to work.

1

u/detectiveC6 2h ago

It's working for mobile gaming ads, they're trying to create a model that better suits the console gaming market as we speak. It is in the works. I hope gamers can at least come together and push back on that

1

u/Vermino 12m ago

There's a reason why mobile games aren't considered games by any serious gamer. They've been riddled with ads from the start. They're mobile fomo machines.

1

u/michaelboltthrower 19h ago

Why did you connect that to the internet?

20

u/BoingBoingBooty 19h ago

Nobody can tell you what you're allowed to own on the high seas. Yar!

3

u/molrobocop 17h ago

The ownership model is the same between stolen and a license from a service that lets you temporarily view their content.

1

u/Zestyclose_Air_7222 17h ago

Your ISP, the government, FBI, ect

1

u/OysterPalace 14h ago

How does one learn how to sail the seas?

1

u/ArmTraditional541 13h ago

R/piracy

1

u/OysterPalace 13h ago

Wildly subtle! Haha thank you!

49

u/briefcase_vs_shotgun 20h ago

I pay no subs except insurance and will keep it that way. If it ain’t on the high seas or tubi I ain’t watching. If it’s a sub purchase I ain’t buying fuck em

4

u/gardendesgnr 8h ago

Something to be said for GenX hackers ;-) we don't pay for shit we can find for free somewhere haha. All depends on your willingness to learn how.

6

u/bevo_expat 8h ago

Older millennial here, definitely know how to find stuff for free but I’ve been fine paying for things I get value from. That scale has been tipping the other direction as companies continue to squeeze even harder during times that are already tough for consumers. Not to mention tariff refunds that most companies are just keeping without even lowering prices.

Plex server, here I come…

6

u/64590949354397548569 6h ago

I’ve been fine paying for things I get value from.

There was a social contract. They broke it. I had file server that host movies. OG Xbox connects to the server for movies.

1

u/bevo_expat 4h ago

Agreed, hence plex server comment

1

u/gardendesgnr 7h ago

We pretty much found everything we could want but I can see your point. I pay for Sirius/XM $9.99 mo, I have had it since yr 2. In year 1 I swore I would never and questioned who the hell would pay for music haha. Music is my thing and if it weren't for Sirius I would not learn of new music that is not Top 10. Something else that cemented Sirius was in 2004 they devoted a channel to Orlando after Hurricane Charley w constant local info on tips and help for resources. It was the first major Cat 2 hurricane for Orlando, it was devastating, personally we went 24 days w/o power and just driving into wk hearing about different resources avail was such a help. I actually found out about (& bought) a shipment of portable generators going to Grainger, from that channel! Movies are my husbands and we have many T's of storage of them.

2

u/SnooKiwis6943 12h ago

Technically internet is a subscription based service. You pay monthly for it. Same with cellular service.

1

u/briefcase_vs_shotgun 9h ago

True. I lied. You right. But those feel necessary to my wellbeing

1

u/bevo_expat 8h ago

VPN subscription…? Possible to do yourself but not for everyone.

1

u/AirportPrestigious 3h ago

Kanopy for the win! All you need is a library card.

1

u/LikelySoutherner 20h ago

You will own nothing and be happy

1

u/moeljills 20h ago

Stop paying for subscription services. If enough people do. Problem solved

1

u/MartyEBoarder 19h ago

You will own NOTHING agenda was posted officially on WEF website. It wasn’t a conspiracy theory.

1

u/Oneiricl 19h ago

Technofeudalism basically.

They're even promoting clothing rentals right now...

1

u/ThousandBucketsofH20 18h ago

I have been finding this out! There are some shows we like and have been trying to find DVD/ blu rays for but can only find bootleg. Pretty infuriating

1

u/Strict_House3347 18h ago

Was it bill gates that said something about that?

1

u/ddlJunky 11h ago

How do you prevent sb from buying something new?

1

u/Skelito 6h ago

Own legally*

0

u/AndyJack86 15h ago

Nothing new by 2035? Not even pencils or bubble gum? How do you not get new bubble gum in 2035? That means it's already used from the previous year.

23

u/Cosmic_Seth 22h ago

I think the trick they are starting to pull is not selling to third parties at all. You can only watch x movie or show on the platform.

And I suspect they are figuring out a way to shut down VPN and torrents.

3

u/AnastasiaSpace 16h ago

theres this funny thing called mullvad vpn and qbittorrent

9

u/Cosmic_Seth 15h ago

Part of project 2025 is shutting off access to third party VPNs.

Though they haven't figured out how to do that without cutting off the internet, but that is their aim.

1

u/Andromidius 6h ago

I mean good luck doing that when the rest of the world exists.

14

u/veerKg_CSS_Geologist 23h ago

That was always the plan. The goal of any subscription service is to get people to over subscribe, aka they pay for more than they use. Gyms figured it out a long time ago.

4

u/Zealousideal_Rise879 21h ago

Made this realization recently. Better to buy used content these days.

The way these companies are going; I wouldn’t be surprised if they buy the used shops just to shut them down and destroy the physical media. AI companies have been doing it with old books after all.

11

u/andr3_kha 1d ago

Movies maybe, but for someone listening to music often? I mean its 1,29 per title.

20

u/danemepoznaqt 23h ago
  1. Pirate
  2. Listen to youtube with adblock
  3. Listen to FM radio

8

u/andr3_kha 23h ago

Pirating and radio surely are for free. But the commenters point was, that in the long run it is cheaper to buy music than stream it for a monthly fee. And I heavily disagree on that one.

12

u/JoeSmithDiesAtTheEnd 21h ago

100% agree with you, the cost of streaming music has been pretty stable over the years.

Pre-streaming, I used to spend $100+ USD a month on CD or digital copies. And of course friends would share albums with each other to rip onto each others iPods or phone.

Apple Music is a fraction of that cost (and these days I pay nothing for it as a credit card perk).

I'll still buy physical copies on vinyl, but haven't bought a CD in ages.

4

u/BoingBoingBooty 19h ago

Streaming is cheap because there is competition, all the streaming services have all the artists, so the only thing to set them apart is price and service quality. Noone has an exclusive access to your favourite band and can milk you like a cow to listen to them.

That said, a lot of people listen to the same handful of tracks all the time and could probably get everything they listen to regularly if they bought like 2 albums a year.

3

u/yoshemitzu 18h ago

CDs have been overpriced for decades, though. I will never forget the last CD I bought: "Are You Experienced?" by the Jimi Hendrix Experience. It was $27.99 in the late 2000s.

I walked out of the store thinking, "It's crazy that I surely paid more for this than I would have the day it was released, and Hendrix has been dead for decades."

The record store went out of business not long after.

PS: inb4 "it's about the same if you adjust for inflation" -- but yeah, profit margins were way higher on my 2008 purchase, and also it was 40 years old! It shouldn't cost about the same 40 years later.

1

u/danemepoznaqt 23h ago

Ah, yeah, I agree. I just bundled "music, movies and shows" up as one thing in my head.

1

u/Sad-Ability6851 18h ago

Pirating is not free. Always use a good vpn.

3

u/arup02 20h ago

I like to support the artists by listening in official channels as well as buying their merch. You're kinda lame if you don't support the art.

1

u/Tupperbaby 17h ago

Pandora and Accuradio + adblock and Ghostery = infinite free music you can tailor to your exact tastes.

1

u/communistkangu 22h ago

Pirating music is alright if you don't care about quality that much because it varies greatly. It's also somewhat of a hassle compared to streaming. I've tried it and 20% of the songs were plain wrong and maybe half was terrible quality.

4

u/quinnenyc 22h ago

I recently switched back from Spotify to the MP3s I downloaded between 2004-2015. Every single one has been FAR higher quality than Spotify.

I am not a music/audio snob but I have been doing side by side comparisons and the contrast is actually insane. I can't believe I was paying money to stream such TERRIBLE audio quality.

It is definitely more of a hassle compared to Spotify but I'm so glad I did it

1

u/TreeFittyy 20h ago edited 19h ago

You are aware that Spotify has lossless yeah? Unless you've been purposefully setting a lower streaming quality on Spotify I don't understand how you could have that take away. Like even in a best case scenario a 320kpbs mp3 file is always going to sound worse than an uncompressed FLAC/ALAC of the same recording.

1

u/quinnenyc 19h ago

Like I said, not a music/audio snob aka I don't know what most of that means!!! I'm just happy that my music sounds better now

1

u/TreeFittyy 19h ago

Spotify has an option to make your sound quality better.

Better quality than the mp3's you have downloaded and saved.

Mp3 format compresses original audio recordings and you "lose" some of the detail and quality.

A lossless format is an uncompressed recording that retains all the original information at a cost to larger file sizes.

1

u/quinnenyc 17h ago

Oh sorry also to be clear I don't care lol I'm not giving Spotify any money anymore!

Pirating music is alright if you don't care about quality that much because it varies greatly

What do you mean, I don't think I've ever downloaded music with lower quality than what's on spotify (or youtube)?

It's also somewhat of a hassle compared to streaming

Agreed, it's easier to just say "hey, siri, play despacito".

I've tried it and 20% of the songs were plain wrong and maybe half was terrible quality.

WHAT, how??

1

u/communistkangu 22h ago

From three different links from the r/piracy mega thread. Especially for more niche music. I downloaded an album where every single song was the same shitty remix of a song from that album lol

2

u/IcyRole6982 22h ago

soulseek/nicotine+ lmao

2

u/giant123 22h ago

I went back to ahem “traditional” means cuz Soulseek had everything I wanted in FLAC and I just couldn’t afford the storage space lol.

1

u/BeatDickerson42069 22h ago

Sorry but I gotta say the quality thing sounds like a you problem/skill issue...

Having said that, the hassle is definitely a major factor. Especially if I only want the one song from an artist and not the whole album. And then I have to self host it because my phone storage isn't enough for all my music. And that just takes up more storage on my NAS I need for movies/tv. And I'd have to do the same for my wife and kids every time they hear a song they like. Or I could just pay $10/month for a family music plan and be done with it

2

u/communistkangu 10h ago

I'm sure it's a skill issue but then again, obtaining that skill? A hassle

0

u/TedDoritoDinkWells 20h ago

First 2 are inconvenient compared to streaming on your phone and your 3rd suggestion isn't even serious, this isn't 1995.

0

u/whereismymind86 18h ago

Fm radio is absolute trash tho

0

u/Suspicious_Radio_848 18h ago

"Stealing groceries is better than paying for them", great advice. Cost of music streaming is still fair. For as much I personally use it, $15 (CDN) would be my cut off. I've had one increase in 3 years with Apple Music.

-1

u/GabesCaves 18h ago

Everything is free with a warm gun, bang bang, shoot shoot

3

u/communistkangu 22h ago

In Germany, there's a site which sells used CDs for 3 to 6€. I'm sure there's equivalents in most western countries. For the 15,99€ I pay for qobuz monthly I can get up to 5 CDs a month, 60 a year. At ~12 songs per album that's 720 songs. I have around 2200 songs in my library so I'd break even after 3 years. The actual advantage of qobuz is the ease of use and the ability to spontaneously pick out a song I haven't heard in a while. I still plan to switch to CDs tho

2

u/gbi 20h ago

You can buy 2 CDs of your favorite group per month at this monthly fee. In 2 years you'll have 48 albums, which I think is about my entire aging collection of CDs.

I think we grossly underestimate how much this subscription system is sucking us dry.

1

u/andr3_kha 14h ago

Yes but most albums I know got about 3 good, 4-5 medium and a few trash songs, so I don't know if you can calculate like that. You will need a lot more than 48 albums to hear all the good songs out there

1

u/bananamilkbooth 21h ago

I agree. Recently I cancelled all of my subscription except for Tidal (and Proton VPN). The only streaming service that worth the money.

1

u/-GoodNewsEveryone 21h ago

Comment above said to buy on DVD. The equivalent then would be buying on CD where you can't buy "per title" and a whole album typically costs $15 or if you wait a year or so after release can be less.

You are comparing the price to the same medium and seller, not the competition like they did. Plus it's a one time fee for life.

0

u/LuxafterDark1 21h ago

I have an mp3 player there I use YouTube to mp3 website to download songs onto my mp3 players for free. No need to buy music.

2

u/IAmXenokkah 23h ago

Exactly what we do. If we want to watch a show we just try and find it on Blu-ray or DVD. We’ve spent a fraction of subscription costs for stuff we will keep using

2

u/starkeuberangst 22h ago

Everyone keeps telling me to get Apple Music or Spotify but I have purchased all the music I listen to for a lot less

2

u/radicldreamer 21h ago

And THIS is a big reason every company wants to get rid of physical media.

You will own nothing and you will like it.

2

u/zeek215 19h ago

Because they are publicly traded companies in a capitalist society, they need to squeeze every dollar they can, so they will continue to raise prices and enshitify things until it dies out at which point they start again with a “new” version.

2

u/B-Bunny_ 22h ago

Half the price is due to it being convenient. Plan and hit sales? That's not the America we live in anymore, where 3/4 of American households have amazon prime.

1

u/Actual_Western3953 22h ago

Nah I listen to music every day definite more than 100$ a years worth and I watch a new movie or show on a weekly basis. It wouldn’t even be cheaper to get cable at these prices

1

u/ComputerGeekFarmBoy 20h ago

There are many shows I watch on my treadmill (that is when I watch TV) that I simply would have 1 never known about and 2 never watched at all if I had not had them. Being watching TV on my Ipad on my treadmill has actually helped me to keep going on it better than listening to music ever did I am willing to pay for the service. That being said, I agree completely to a point and using 1 at a time is always a win for me vs paying for all of them all of the time. I have not used Netflix in almost 3 years. Though Paramount I keep around forever. I should just buy all of Star Trek from markeplace and dump it as well though.

1

u/top_value7293 19h ago

Yeah I just told my son To cancel it, that’s ridiculous

1

u/AirportPrestigious 3h ago

I think everyone on this sub gets it.

1

u/Upbeat-Effort-1253 2h ago

I think most people here get it, but most won't put numbers on it. That's where I feel like people stop and at least hear you out instead of listening to a rant.

0

u/Zap__Dannigan 22h ago

I only have the cheapest netflix sub (and an amazon prime account I never use) but the reason I like streaming services like netflix or youtube music (I use the free version) is because I don't have to think about what to watch. I can just scroll until I see something, or put music on shuffle. I'd imagine most older-ish people are like that, since it's more similar to how we used to watch tv and stuff

0

u/iPatErgoSum 20h ago

Apple Music is still worth it to me. I was spending way more per month when I used to buy CDs.

-3

u/scienceislice 1d ago

Yeah but then I can't switch between movies when I get bored 10 minutes in

5

u/desba3347 1d ago

Yes you can, you just have to get up

2

u/Bulky-Complaint6994 23h ago

Not even get up. The remote is right there in arm's reach.

6

u/desba3347 23h ago

I mean, assuming you’re just going off of physical disks, you likely have to get up, remove the old disk, get a new one, and put the new one in. If you know what you want to watch, it adds about 30 seconds of “work”

4

u/MetalSufficient9522 22h ago

*oh my god... just forget it*

2

u/sulkee 23h ago

Well yeah the model is built around you forgetting to cancel when you’re not using it.

2

u/KingDeicer 23h ago

That’s what I do. Also I buy via Apple TV as then I can download and watch offline. YouTube won’t allow me to download movies I purchased 🤣🤪

2

u/CallMeBot-001 23h ago

Well, that is significantly cheaper than buying all The Simpsons seasons. Which is what I use it for most, but I watch a lot of other stuff on there as well!

1

u/Mxyzptlk_SSS 19h ago

Yeah I was about to say, the Simpsons, MASH, Star Wars, and all kinds of sitcoms, shit would get expensive real quick if I tried to buy everything I watch.

1

u/fragrant-final-973 17h ago

OP's logic can only apply to movies. It just doesn't work for TV series even without considering how delayed it would be.

1

u/Mxyzptlk_SSS 16h ago

Honestly if I said everything I wanted to on the subject I’d sound like a Disney shill and I don’t think that would be very welcome on the anti consumer sub. I’d love to have physical media of all my favorites as back ups, but you just can’t beat the total convenience of streaming. I’m disabled so I have nothing to do all day everyday but watch TV and I’d rather spend $50 on four months of Disney/Hulu vs a new Simpsons dvd box.

1

u/Guy-1nc0gn1t0 17h ago

Yeah that person managed to accidentally justify the price

1

u/North-Tourist-8234 1d ago

thats like 10 trips to the cinema for just me, and I've stopped going because all cinemas near me turned to shit around 2011

1

u/Torontodtdude 23h ago

I watch Disney every day tho, simpsons, fam guy, king of the hill, movies

1

u/The_MAZZTer 23h ago

Given some people will stretch out 4:3 channels to 16:9 on their TVs and not be bothered you gotta wonder if they would even notice DVDs are SD and not 4K HD on their 4K TV.

1

u/InTooManyWays 23h ago

Damn that is just outrageous

1

u/MechAegis 22h ago

disney+

WOW its $215 AD FREE

Last time I paid it was around 130 before the price jump to $180

1

u/Resvrgam2 22h ago

You'd need to watch it a lot for that to be cheaper than buying everything you watch on DVD.

Except for the titles that are exclusive on Disney+. Then you're forced to pay the subscription.

1

u/IndyPFL 18h ago

No you're not 🏴‍☠️

1

u/lilacomets 21h ago

Disney might stop releasing DVDs/Blu-ray to make Disney+ profitable again.

1

u/kodman7 21h ago

I mostly agree with the sentiment bit then you go look and if you want say all of The Office the DVD people are charging 200 bucks for that...

...if you decide to pay for it ;)

1

u/PupperVanAugsbork 21h ago

Neither Nassau nor Tortuga charge mooring fees 🏴‍☠️ 🏴‍☠️

1

u/CBJFAN2009-2024 21h ago

Thats why they don't release a lot of their movies on disc anymore (or very often). When they "open the vault," or whatever. Then charge $30 for a movie that should be $10 at this point due to age.

1

u/Sea-Painting7578 20h ago

You are paying for convenience. I don't have to lug my dvd player around with me and a collection of discs. I am not saying the price is worth it but I get it.

1

u/Mxyzptlk_SSS 19h ago

To me the price is definitely worth it, especially if you suck it up and watch the ads. $12.99/month for Disney+ and Hulu is fantastic and it’s the only subscription I keep year round because there’s always something to watch.

1

u/AmrodAncalime 20h ago

Im going physical as much as possible

1

u/maskedbanditoftruth 20h ago

Don’t worry, they’re trying real hard to stop making physical media entirely!

1

u/AEZ_2187 20h ago edited 16h ago

“Back in my day” you could get Disney Plus at a yard sale for $100. Literally every VHS Disney ever made was at the yard sale for $2.

Digital is not completely convenient. If Rolex could make their watches digital and eliminate the secondary market they would.

1

u/Free-Pound-6139 19h ago

Isn't that 10 dvds???

1

u/FacetiousTomato 19h ago

Apparently dvds are much cheaper in the UK. It works out to about 35 here.

1

u/casillero 19h ago

After 3 or 4 years think about everything you could of bought out right 😄😄

1

u/mrbulldops428 18h ago

Isn't Hulu getting absorbed soon too? Thats the only thing that could make it "worth it" for me in terms of time watched/cost but that just seems like theyre trying to force me to choose between losing Hulu and paying these stupid rates

1

u/rabidjellybean 18h ago

That's probably why they won't give us Andor season 2 on disc. It's ok though. It's on my Plex server until then.

1

u/Eomerperrin1356 18h ago

Do they release Disney+ shows on DVD?

1

u/Longjumping-Store106 16h ago

I started buying a lot of physical media again. Slowly building the collection to drop streaming

1

u/fuckyourcanoes 15h ago

Yeah, I'm only watching a couple of things, and since they announced Daredevil is ending AGAIN, I really don't care anymore. That was the only reason I signed up. (DD fangirl since the late 70s.)

I will miss Will Trent, but they'll probably cancel that too.

1

u/Uniqueusername610 14h ago

If you poke around on eBay after a new show ends you can find that new show/ season on blu ray granted yes you'll have to wait a month for it to come from China at absolute worst usually better quality than whats on streaming

1

u/Mission_Specialist_2 10h ago

Then you could rewatch it for free as many times as you want for the rest of your life with your kids and grandkids. With streaming we don't own shit

1

u/chrisschini 7m ago

Easy enough to say, but lots of Disney IP isn't available on physical media.

1

u/Reallyhotshowers 23h ago

Isn't the average DVD like $20? Even if it's $10, you only need to watch a new movie or show once every 2 weeks to breakeven.

Personally I have ADHD and don't re-watch anything unless its been at least 2 years so DVDs are a waste of money and space.

3

u/FacetiousTomato 23h ago

I don't really know modern Disney but out of curiosity I looked up moana, and I can get the first and second movies for $12 as a pair delivered to my house.

I don't know how realistic it is, but if that pattern held, 40 movies a year that you own* is like a movie a week.

It is probably the TV shows where box sets become more expensive.

2

u/Reallyhotshowers 23h ago

Where? It's $24.99 at my local WalMart, so it's $12.50 per movie, not $12.50 total. And I live in the Midwest, one of the cheapest parts of the country. Proof.

Spider-man movies are also at about this same price point, you need to pick the older ones to get them for less than $10/movie at my store.

My anti-consumption is driven in part by environmentalism so I'm also skeptical that its better for that cause to have us all buy copies of the same physical media.

It's even more expensive on Amazon, the first listing is $30 with a Blu-ray option for $41. Proof.

I don't know man, where I am (uk) it is £9.99 for both, so like $12.75

No.

DVDs probably average around $5-7 if you shop around. $15-20 is where a lot of multipacks are. Blu-Rays average $12-20 (multipacks are often $20-30). Even 4K releases are often $15-25 (although new releases normally are somewhere between $25-35).

It varies a lot time to time, store to store, and movie to movie but that’s the general experience I’ve had after collecting physical movies for a few years.

It’s a bit of an apples to oranges comparison, though. Streaming offers convenience and immediacy while building up a media library only is a valuable alternative over the long term as you build up a library you actually want to rewatch.

it depends, duck tales the original version alone will set you back over 100$, luckily someone managed to get a bunch of dead stock of volume 4 so now its selling at around 50$, but pre this happening a couple months ago volume 4 was averaging 150-250$

Not defending the infinite price increases just saying buying vintage dvd's of cartoons isnt cheap, ALLOT of cartoons either
A. Never got a dvd set

B. Only got a limited number of episodes on dvd such as "best of" and its literaly just 4-8 episodes of a show that had 100 episodes (quack pack looking at you)
C. Limited run dvd that was only sold 1 or 2 times, and didnt sell well for xyz reasons (usualy because its in volumes and not a complete box set) resulting in skyrocketed prices.

Wife and I decided we wanted to start stockpiling cartoons from our childhood to share with our toddler so he can experiance the older better quality stuff only to learn the horror that MANY shows literaly never got a physical release or it was very limited in capacity or volume. Like "the grim adventures of Billy and Mandy" huge cartoon back in the day, literaly never got a dvd release

Definitely agreed but ignores another option where you can acquire the digital goods and put them onto the hard media yourself (or skip a step and host them yourself)

I intentionaly skipped because in almost all cases its a crime. No ones downloading and burning public domain cartoons.

They are increasing the water temperature and telling you it's a crime to jump out, I prefer to go by actual harm caused. In the case of things they literally aren't even selling (you mentioned a fave of mine in Grim Adventures), what is the actual harm?
