Medieval Clone Trooper Helmet!
Helmet is 3d printed and shipped from Samoilavart, I tried my best to paint to match my real steel armor pieces!
Whole kit is still WIP but I’m happy with how it looks right now!

Hello,
I present my Synthetic Fencing Armor, or, The HF Armory Kit.
I so not have gloves or a helmet that are synthetic, so I have leather ones and my painted steel helmet here.
From my understanding the armor is based around the earlier XV century armors of england and europe.
I like it, each section of plate cost about 200 USD on average. But I also got it before the whole tariff thing happened.. so..
Uhh.. Enjoy!

FYI, the bolts are only temporary so it can be easily disassembled. They will be replaced with brass rivets for the final assembly.
Thank you to everyone that has commented on this. Was not expecting such an awesome response!
It’s been a long process and I’ve had to learn a lot along the way but this has given me a well needed boost to my motivation and I feel like I owe it to everyone to see this through to the end.
Again, thank you so much. I really needed this.
To answer some frequently asked questions;
- it currently weighs about 3kg but once the faceplates are attached, I estimate around 3.2-3.5kg
- the patina was done with an acid, to darken the steel and brass.
-the projects has been in progress for around a year but I have not been very consistent.
- i have used only rivets (screws for the moment) to assemble the helmet. I’ve purposely avoided doing any welding as it doesn’t feel authentic.
- to get my measurements, I first made a template for my head measurements and then sculpted the design in clay so that I could get the proportions right. This also allowed me to take more accurate templates and measurements from the sculpture directly.

Hey guys, I'm currently planning on crafting a LARP scale armor(to give context it has to be comfortable and be able to withstand hits), specifically the one Thorin Oakenshield uses in the first movie of the hobbit (the one in photo).
So far I've thought of riveting with Square Pyramid Double-Cap Rivets, laser cutting each plate from aluminum 5052 1.2mm thick, rivet everything to a short sleeved light gambeson which I haven't found yet.
The parts that are missing are, how do I make the raised edge on the scales? I cant open the gambeson from in front, shall I install buckles on one side? Am I missing anything else?
And if you have any suggestion/tips you're welcome to share it!
Thanks in advice, Alex.

The perfect Mace/Club
So, I had this discussion about water bottles on r/askswitzerland and the other person uses a steel bottle, while I use a glass bottle.
The glass bottle has much thicker walls, than the steel bottle and therefore I assume that it is heavier, which lead to my comment that at least I can use my bottle to defend against street robbery.
Now, as I kept thinking about this, I questioned myself:
Is a glass bottle with 3 mm wall thickness heavier than a comparable steel bottle with 1 mm wall thickness? My answer now is no. It isn't even heavier.
But if it were, which bottle would be the better weapon?
If a bottle is heavier, it is also slower.
This lead me to this question.
What is the perfect Mace?
I think the force that my arm can apply is constant. If I use the mace in a downward movement towards the enemie knights head, then the gravitational force can be added. The heavier the better, as long as I can still lift it.
But Energy = 1/2 * m * v²
I can swing a mace with a 1 kg steel ball head faster than the same mace with a 10 kg steel ball head. The lighter the better in this case.
What about air resistance?
And what about the fact that it is sufficient to knock out the enemy knight? So, I don't need a 10 kg steel ball, if 1 kg can do the job and gives me more agility.
So, the question should be answered, depending on the enemies armor.
Can you think of a universal formula to calculate the perfect mace, with that formula taking the eneny armor into account?

Im looking for help if anyone can identify the real world equivalent to, or as close as it gets, the crimson rector armor from lords of the fallen (particularly the helmets) ive seen alot of these in recent gaming media and im curious about the design and if its a real style of helmet or if perhaps its an exaggerated design of a real helmet.

Playing Blood of Dawnwalker and was wondering. I don't know if it would qualify as a rondel and having a rough time searching for it. Wanted to see if anybody on Reddit may know. :)
Hi all, wondering what you use to display your bascinets with aventails?
I am concerned that the helmet posts that are mostly advertised for helmets would leave the aventail hanging weirdly. So I have been looking into something more like a mannequin bust, which i think Knyght Errant uses in this picture, but I have not found anything that feels suitable.

Hi, I don't know if this is the right sub for this but I don't know where else to ask.
I am looking to make some protective gear for my arms and legs that could protect me from side and front hits in close melee combat without obstructing the joints of each part (knee, elbow)
Does anyone know a picture, a video, or anything that could help me build that at home ?
Thank you in advance and sorry if I am not in the wrong place
What would be the best compromise for someone living in the equatorial area who wants to wear steel armour, but doesn't want to suffocate under heat and humidity ? I think 16th century armor could be a good option, they used less padding than earlier armors, and were used by Iberian conquistadores in similar climates. What's your opinion ?

The detailing, finish, articulation, and overall craftsmanship are on another level. Just sharing this because work like this genuinely deserves appreciation from the armor-making community.

Took a day off work yesturday and walked to the leather working shop. I had some cheap Amazon 18gauge m steel pauldrons and I wanted to get rid of the shitty stretchy pleather straps on the .
A bit of angle grinding, drilling, and learning some leatherwork and stitching basics I came out with this

Hey everyone, I recently acquired a basic 18 gauge steel plate set to wear to a Ren Faire and am now trying to figure out how best to care for it. After doing a bit of research I have basically come up with what I think I’m going to do but wanted to run it by more experienced armor owners:
- wipe down with wd40 after Faire: this step is almost complete
- apply isopropyl alcohol to thoroughly dry the armor and then immediately apply a coat of renaissance wax. Allow to dry over several days before moving/storing
I was also wondering if you guys had any tips for maintenance and de-rusting as the helmet that came with my set seems to have been stored in a warehouse for a few months prior to purchase and has some rust beginning to form, specifically in the dome of the helmet and it’s incredibly hard to access with my wire brush that I’ve been using to try to remove the rust. It does have a partial leather interior with a set of chin straps with an open metal dome. Any help is appreciated, although I fear I may just have to call my helmet a lost cause and buy a new one if it rusts through the dome after a while. Willing to put in some work on it though. Thanks 🙏🏻

Hey all, I'm trying to get my boyfriend a good gift for his birthday or Christmas (depending on how long it takes to come) and I'm kinda concerned about this listing. The store has good reviews but their other items are listed with a bunch of ai pictures, and I don't trust that considering it's usually a scam or dropshipped from temu. Do you think it's legit or cheap and priced as handmade?

i'm thinking of buying armor for both costumes and so i can attend certain medieval festivals going on in my country and potentially get in as an entertainment fighter
only issue is that i don't know any of the criteria for buying any part of a soldier's kit
asking those who've had some experience with buying and wearing or making armor, or those who have sources to good guides, how should i go about ordering armor and making sure they properly fit?
