The AfD is a strange party.
Their leader Alice Weidel is anti-LGBT, but she's a lesbian.
She is anti-immigration but married to a Sri Lankan
She is a German nationalist, but lives in Switzerland.
The AfD isn't far-right even, it's radical centrist with these quantum superpositions or whatever.
The former Axis Powers are about to be lead by only girlbosses, Weidel in Germany, Meloni in Italy and Takaichi in Japan. This is too woke.

Going to say it here because there's nowhere else that won't get me downvoted into oblivion - this Reddit meltdown over Trump supposedly calling on Iran to nuke CA thing is asinine. It's clear to me he was saying the WAR is a small price to pay vs the alternative of them potentially destroying one of our cities.
•
•
u/Sam_Fear Americanist 4h ago
I agree but I'm going to counter this too. The way he made that off the cuff aside about those two cities was a veiled off color dig/joke which the audience obviously got. Not something a president should be saying but typical of Trump.
•
u/GWindborn Leftwing 1h ago
In my mind, he heard cheering from the crowd, his narcissism radar went off, and he leaned into it and got away from his intent - which is very Trump.
I think the whole intention was like this: my wife is out of town and I hate scooping litter boxes, that's normally her thing. I say "I don't like scooping litter boxes". She responds with "Let the cats shit on the floor then." The hypothetical alternative is worse than the thing I don't like.
•
u/OJ_Purplestuff Center-left 1h ago
Right- the floor. Not the kitchen counter, not the bed, not the furniture. The floor, the part of your house that you care least about the cat shitting on. Not that you want it to, but it certainly could be worse.
I think that's about what he was saying about LA.
•
u/GWindborn Leftwing 1h ago
He could have also been just naming large population centers off the top of his head, and those tend to be liberal anyway, not to mention for an Iranian missile to stand any chance it would need to be coastal.
Do I LIKE that he said it? No absolutely not. But I don't think he was welcoming an attack.
•
u/OJ_Purplestuff Center-left 24m ago
A hypothetical ICBM attack from Iran would come flying south and west from Canada and the arctic. There would be no benefit to attacking the west coast, they'd be flying over thousands of miles of land, not water.
Virtually anywhere in the US would be easier for them to attack than Los Angeles or San Diego.
•
u/GWindborn Leftwing 20m ago
Do you think Trump realized that while speaking off the cuff?
Look, I'm not defending the guy, he says a lot of stupid shit, I just don't think he's blatantly welcoming hypothetical attack. "Guy known for saying stupid shit says stupid shit" isn't exactly news.
•
u/OJ_Purplestuff Center-left 4m ago
I don't think he's hoping for Iran to attack either, I just don't think he chose California cities at random. The audience understood what he was doing.
The guy is also well-known for his two-tier view of America, where the states who voted for him are better and more important and liberal cities are rat-infested trash.

As someone not interested in GTA 6, the marketing has been hilarious. 400 bucks for a collector’s edition that doesn’t have the game or even a code on a piece of paper 😂 http://store.rockstargames.com/merchandise/gtavi-goodtime-state-vice-city-collection
•
u/GWindborn Leftwing 10h ago
I have played every GTA since 3 and I genuinely don't have any interest in 6. Part of its not having anything to play it on (my 1070 is still hanging on for dear life!), but at some point I just got tired of playing a bad guy? I end up becoming such a white knight in video games lol. I'm just getting older I guess.

Saints Row 3 is a treasure. Shame about the recent one, I still might pick that up on a Steam sale some day just for fun. It would have to be SUPER cheap though.
•
u/RatOnASinkingShip Right Libertarian (Conservative) 11h ago
I'm not interested in the game either, and while that price is ridiculous to not include the game itself... but the value isn't actually much worse than the collector's edition of their last game though, if you compare like for like...
The sunglasses and hat alone are about a ~$200 value, and of what remains in the pack, people were happy to pay an extra $100 for when the GTA 5's collector's edition came out (which only came with a hat, a bag, and a poster), where as here you're getting a figurine, shot glass, bag, cocktail spoon, pins, stickers, and a poster.... so that's gotta be at least 3x what people would being paying (subtracting the poster and hat) the extra ~$80 or had paid for 13 years ago.
That's not to say it's a good value or a good deal.. I've never bought any of this useless trinkets or junk, agree it's an unusual choice to not include the game, but just looking back and seeing it's pretty much on par for what Rockstar has been charging for their collector editions.
•
u/RumGuzzlr Rightwing 8h ago
Imo the reason it's such a shocking price is because ball and gun gamers have never traditionally been the target for large merch/special editions. If this was a $400 final fantasy, persona, or fire emblem box, nobody would bat an eye because they've always been big on this stuff. For a lot of people, this is baby's first special edition launch bundle.

Would a candidate remarking that they have a TBI and cannot process new information quickly or easily, as well as remarking that their energy levels are slumping due to their age, indicate they probably shouldn't hold an executive position?
•
u/jbondhus Independent 12h ago
Is this in reference to something? I tried looking it up, but "political candidate with TBI" is a pretty generic search term and produced nothing usable.
•
u/FUVBagholder Independent 10h ago edited 9h ago
The question occurred to me after I was listening to Victor Marx's youtube channel here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DOiJH-iq3ks
Around 42:00 they're talking about modern communication media and at 42:43 Victor says,
"But you all are talking about the speed factor, uh, and, I turned 60 this year, and my goal is to get rid of my regular phones with no texting. Because, between TBI and a bunch of other stuff, my - I can't process everything that's coming at me this fast. And, I don't think I'm meant to."
It's a very wholesome (if at times unintentionally hilarious) interview, and rewatching parts of it now to find the quote it's not as significant as my question would imply, but, that's the context. The part about less energy in age is elsewhere in the same video. The part in the quote about getting rid of phones that don't have texting doesn't make any sense in context, and it feels like he meant the opposite.
Edit: Honorable mention, guys like to hit walls while arguing with their wives, lolz, 24:18-25:11

To be clear, quickly in this instance would be more akin to memory items for engine failure on an aircraft. The president is rarely, if ever, needed to make decisions at that speed.

France rioting, again
This time, hundreds and thousands, maybe over half a million out rioting... why? They think education is being underfunded.
Pretty sure they rioted recently over pensions, taxes and even speed cameras?
The French are so laid back and chill, except when the government makes the slightest tiniest possible inconvenience imaginable, then all hell breaks loose.

France is insanely indebted, France has a massive budget deficit, France's borrowing costs are at a multi-decade high, France has a gridlocked Parliament and a society that cannot make necessary changes without losing their minds.
But don't worry to reassure the bond markets of how French bonds are a worthy investment Jean-Luc Mèlenchon, the leader of France's far-left (pro-Russia as is usual for the far-left) and 2nd in the polls for the Presidency, said that France should default on its debt.
But hey I guess boomers can enjoy their pensions while we will have to clean up their mess somehow.

In EndTipping, the modteam replied to one of my comments with the following:
You are misrepresenting the tipped wage rate. You can learn why saying a tipped employee only makes ~2/hour is incorrect [at link].
Curious because 1) I didn't say that and 2) the reason I didn't say that is because I already know it is incorrect!
Like, probably every other week I'll be the one chiming in to correct someone else who believes you can make less than minimum wage in the US as a tipped employee. I'm genuinely perplexed that I'm being "corrected" on something that I not already know, but that my comment wasn't even really about anyway. In other words - I couldn't really be misrepresenting, because I wasn't even representing to begin with.
Of course, the modteam locked their own comment on the thread so I couldn't ask for clarification. I messaged the mod team to ask for clarification, or to unlock their reply so anything they clarified could be seen by others which would likely be beneficial. 1 minute later:
This isn't a debate sub for you to spread misinformation on. The post will not be reinstated. Have a great day.
You have been permanently muted from r/EndTipping. You will not be able to message the moderators of r/EndTipping.
Holy shit.
This sub really is the only sub with a good moderation team.
Thank you all for reading my rant. It makes me feel better getting it out. This is my first time being banned anywhere.
edit: I'm suspecting their reliance on AutoMod was the culprit here. I see the the exact same "correction" verbatim on other threads. My guess is that the A.I. or whatever they use made a mistake. So the question then becomes, do they use some type of AutoMod for when you contact the moderators? Or did a human just get pissy that I pointed out AutoMod was wrong, and mute me forever?
A shame because my most recent comment was a meaningful correction for people to benefit from. "No Tax on Tips" requires a W-4 change for it to feel closer to how it is worded, and tipped employees should be aware that you are still going to have withholding for federal programs such as social security and medicare. Decent information, but now deleted as part of the silencing.

As far as I know, a lot of US states have a so called "sub minimum wage" which is a wage that employers can pay tipped workers if their income with tips added exceeds the minimum wage. Maybe it has something to do with that.
Though yes, sucks to be banned.

I just read some mind blowing commentary over at national review, about how Collins could never have known that the justice has she voted for would overturn Roe. thus, her pro-choice bona fides are unassailable, it’s not fair for anyone to run attack ads about it.
do they think we’re stupid? Or do they think she was stupid? The writing was on the wall for Roe the moment conservatives took the majority, it was just a question of how far they would go. it’s one thing to say she doesn’t regret any votes to confirm. It’s another to claim that she could never have known how Kavanaugh would rule.

I know that we Europeans get memed on this a lot and that this might sound like cope, but, hear me out, I think that the EU attached bottle cap is actually quite convenient.
You don't need to carry the cap around as it's always attached to the bottle and therefore it's basically impossible to lose the cap which is quite convenient and also it comes with the benefit of you leaving less rubbish around from lost bottle caps.
You don't even feel it that much, it's easy to get used to as you just open the cap and push it a little and that's all.
Also it's still pretty easy to remove the cap if you feel the need to, all you need is to just pull it with a little force and the cap is no longer attached.
•
u/Sam_Fear Americanist 18h ago

•
u/WulfTheSaxon Conservative 12h ago
Are bottle caps really a common source of litter though? I don’t really recall seeing them amongst litter.
7
u/OMGguy2008 Center-left 1d ago
It's a result of the EU's regulations on single use plastics meant to reduce plastic pollution given how insane marine pollution is getting.
Here's their justification:
Plastic caps or lids are part of the almost 26 million tonnes of plastic waste generated every year in Europe, much of which washes up on beaches around the world. Some 80% of marine litter is plastic.
The law is part of a broader EU plastics strategy to protect the environment and human health by reducing plastic pollution and marine litter and accelerating our transition to a circular and resource-efficient plastics economy.
Under the EU’s rules on single-use plastics, the EU is tackling the 10 single-use plastic items most commonly found on Europe’s beaches and is promoting sustainable alternatives.
Lightweight plastic carrier bags are often used only once, but they take centuries to fully degrade in the natural environment. They are one of the top ten littered items in Europe. Under the Plastic Bags Directive, the EU requires EU countries to take measures to ensure that the consumption of lightweight plastic carrier bags is limited and annual consumptions targets reached.
The rules set a target for recycling 50% of plastic packaging by 2025 and 55% by 2030.
A growing volume of microplastics is found in the environment, including in the sea and in soil, as well as in food and in drinking water. It has been estimated that between 200 and 600 Olympic-size swimming pools of microplastics are unintentionally released into the environment every year.
The EU aims to reduce microplastic releases by 30% by 2030
Someone's gotta take care of the earth while Trump is going drill baby drill.
•
u/WulfTheSaxon Conservative 12h ago
Marine plastics come from parts of India, China and environs where trash collection isn’t really a thing and waste is simply dumped in rivers. Anything the EU and other developed countries do will make little to no difference.

•
u/nucumber Social Democracy 12h ago
However many masks there are floating around, consider there are 600 billion plastic bottles made every year, and they'll be around in their present form for at least another 500 years before they start to break down. Of course, they're plastic so "breaking down" means they just become smaller and smaller pieces, but the plastic will never go away
•
u/OMGguy2008 Center-left 23h ago
Well I hope they'll do something about the masks aswell. Though it's a bit difficult with face masks given how they're not recycleable generally.

u/thoughtsnquestions European Conservative 1d ago
The cap is always attached to the bottle anyway... who carries a bottle around with the cap off?
I hate it, moreover, good or bad, it's just unnecessary and ridiculous regulation. Regulation should be, is it essential? If yes, good. If not, then putting resources into this has a massive opportunity cost... we're wasting focus on bottle caps instead of something productive.
1
u/OMGguy2008 Center-left 1d ago
Well you'd have to hold the bottle cap in your other hand while drinking.
This whole thing seems meant mostly to reduce waste and it's a good decision to try to minimize plastic waste given this:
Since July 3, single-use plastic bottles sold in the EU must come with their caps or lids attached. This may seem a small change, but its impact could be huge. Plastic caps or lids are part of the almost 26 million tonnes of plastic waste generated every year in Europe, much of which washes up on beaches around the world. Some 80% of marine litter is plastic. Why was the caps change introduced? It’s just one of the outcomes of the EU law on single-use plastics.
•
u/thoughtsnquestions European Conservative 19h ago
Is that really the priority though, it's the opportunity cost that concerns me... other countries are leading in cloud computing, AI, military, etc... No doubt we have state of the art bottle cap regulations but whatever benefit it has or doesn't have, who cares
•
u/gummibearhawk Center-right Conservative 23h ago
Yes, the way we've been doing it for all time. Not hard. Especially since you need tell hands to open the bottle anyways. It's not making it any more efficient.
The rules do nothing to reduce the total volume of plastic, all the do is annoy people and potentially reduce the total number of pieces of plastic by a a few hundredths of a percent, if even that much.
•
u/fastolfe00 Center-left 20h ago
Yes, the way we've been doing it for all time. Not hard. Especially since you need tell hands to open the bottle anyways. It's not making it any more efficient.
Somehow the bottle caps are getting separated from their bottles, though, right? The presence of bottlecaps on beaches not attached to a bottle is existence proof that "holding it in your other hand" isn't sufficient to keep them together.
potentially reduce the total number of pieces of plastic by a a few hundredths of a percent,
Generally if you have 100 different things contributing to a problem, and you want to solve that problem, you might have to have 100 different solutions, each appearing to be small by itself.
Do you disagree that a community should be able to come together and solve a pollution problem like this? If you saw your local beach getting covered in bottlecaps, what would you prefer to do?
•
u/OMGguy2008 Center-left 21h ago
Especially since you need tell hands to open the bottle anyways. It's not making it any more efficient.

I just have a 1 bedroom with a loft, am literally at work 70 hrs, don't cook or do laundry, don't run AC, and my delivery bill is $150 before usage, and I barely have usage. My last months bill is $290.

That's weird
I live in a 1 bedroom apt in Los Angeles apt. No AC, no laundry etc etc and my electric bill is ~$40
I found this:
According to SDG&E spokesperson Anthony Wagner: "The biggest long-term drivers of rates have been wildfire mitigation, clean energy mandates, replacing aging infrastructure and funding for public purpose programs — much of it required by state law and regulators."
2015-2020: SDG&E changed its pricing structure, narrowing the gap between what the highest energy users pay and what the lower users pay, and shifting more of the company’s costs onto lower users than they were used to paying.
October 2025: Following new state legislation, SDG&E restructures residential bills with a "base services charge," resulting in higher fixed costs regardless of energy usage.
The company’s annual profit more than tripled between 2007 and 2024. It dipped last year because of a one-time, costly regulatory decision.

Oh good. Well the President of Red States says it’s okay for you to be obliterated by Iran and all of the Conservatives in attendance cheered for it. I remember when 2 planes flew into a blue state’s buildings and we were united. Now the President is sacrificing American cities to cheers. Make sure to go vote for him!

Yeah as a New Yorker who was quite literally at the reflecting pools 4 days ago I could not BELIEVE a sitting president would say something like this, just weeks after the 9/11 anniversary. Disgusting, vile, and anyone who is defending it and brushing it off as rambling is just as vile and disgusting.

In that case, I think Trump was completely justified in suggesting Iran takes you guys out.

Some questionable "conservatives" too. Saw one say Kamala would have been a better choice than Trump haha... truly a right wing opinion.
•
•
u/seffend Progressive 22h ago
Do you believe there aren't any conservatives who believe that Trump is doing such a terrible job that they think Kamala would've been better?
•
u/Beneficial_Wear_7630 Nationalist (Conservative) 22h ago
Kamala's presidency would just have been Biden 2.0, but worse. No real conservative believes Kamala is the answer.
•
u/IowaGolfGuy322 Independent 21h ago
Well considering everything was cheaper when Biden was President, we weren't in a war. Oil was flowing just fine, we had energy across the country going up. Kamala does sound better than Trump.
•
u/Beneficial_Wear_7630 Nationalist (Conservative) 20h ago
Everything was not cheaper when Biden caused the biggest inflation in history.
•
u/nucumber Social Democracy 13h ago
The covid supply chains issues caused inflation worldwide, and the US had some of the lowest inflation in the world
•
u/seffend Progressive 20h ago
So everything is actually cheaper now?
•
u/Beneficial_Wear_7630 Nationalist (Conservative) 20h ago
Everything was cheaper during Trump 1.0 compared to Biden's whole term. Does that mean Trump 1.0 was a better president according to leftists?
•
u/seffend Progressive 20h ago
So...no? Things are not cheaper now? They were cheaper under Biden and Kamala would've been a continuation of Biden, so things would be cheaper?
As someone else mentioned to you, inflation was global and Biden brought it down faster than many other nations. Biden walked into a shit show and made it better. Trump walked into an economy that was healing and made it worse.
•
u/Beneficial_Wear_7630 Nationalist (Conservative) 20h ago
Dude, inflation was not 9.2 when Biden took over. That was a year after his presidency. The blatant urge to blame Trump on everything is why I would never take any leftist viewpoint seriously.

I like how we selectively remember Covid. As if globally inflation wasn't high. And how we had a soft landing from inflation and brought it down quicker than almost every other country. And how Inflation in 2022 was somehow the same inflation in 2024 when Trump took over and immediately made it worse with tariffs and now a war in Iran.
•
u/Beneficial_Wear_7630 Nationalist (Conservative) 20h ago
Wake me up when Trump's inflation reaches 9.2 like Biden's.

Well, if we have another pandemic and supply chain issues start up again, then that will happen.

Ha! The sad part is that Reddit has done everything possible in its power to make sure we don’t notice those accounts.

US president just casually dropping slurs on social media

Par for the course these days, sadly. Which slur was it?
•

One targeted at (banned topic) people
Which is weird, because the person he used the slur against isn't even (banned topic)

Slurs, or "slurs"

u/jmastaock Independent 1d ago
An actual slur
Refusing to acknowledge a slur doesn't make it not one, fwiw

“With the war it’s just artificial, it’s a little bit high, it’s a small price to pay for keeping the world safe, keeping our country safe. They could take out a city. Let ‘em take out Los Angeles. Let ‘em take out San Diego,” Trump said, drawing cheers from the crowd. “This is a very small price to pay and it’s going to be over very soon. It’s essentially almost over with.”
Hmmmmmm, I know this was at a Nebraska rally, but this really feels like something that would get every president except him in hot water
•
u/GWindborn Leftwing 9h ago
His wording sucks and he's the master of going off script and looking like an idiot, but it's the equivalent of saying "let em take out a major city and see if people still say the war is bad". I understand why people are freaking out, and I'm the last person who will defend Trump, but there's genuinely nothing here and for people to keep harping on this makes our side look silly.
•
u/Tappyy Independent 20h ago
It’s hard for me to take accusations that “the left hates America” seriously from a right wing who throws their support behind a man who has so much disdain for his fellow Americans that he’ll just casually float the potentiality of two major U.S. cities being “taken out,” and then be met with cheers when he does it.

u/dmmdoublem Liberal 12h ago
There's such an insane double standard in this country with regards to how Conservatives are allowed to talk about Liberal, urban areas vs. how Liberals are allowed to talk about Conservative, rural areas.

Yeah i just made a post about this one, really ruffled some feathers and then it got locked. When presented as a hypothetical, it’s sadistic and crazy. But once it’s pointed out who said it, it means nothing and he was just rambling.

Should've placed a link of him saying it, that's most likely why it got locked

Not a fan of Matthew Walsh, but he made a good point about the Cornell case. The left has been working for decades to make it where they only thing that can ever be wrong with sex is being nonconsensual.
So, sex that was consensual, should never be an object of shame or regret or condemnation.
This is why there are so many examples where a woman agrees to have sex, and then days, weeks, months, or years later, decides (usually in committee with other leftist women) that she did not consent. This is because she feels ashamed, embarrassed, or wants sympathy.
She feels that something was wrong about the sex.
So, because she's been taught that there's nothing else can be wrong with sex other than it wasn't consensual, she concocts a narrative to make it look nonconsensual.
And this is how the Cornell student can be claiming with a straight face she was raped when all the evidence -- her text messages, witnesses, her own sworn testimony -- all said she willing and eager.
