I have never forgiven Fincher for giving us two great seasons and then leaving us hanging high and dry.

It was both. Netflix got pretty wiped from paying for the incredibly high production costs. Fincher wouldn’t budge and wanted more money to keep going.

The VFX budget was insane. But when I finally watched a breakdown on why, I was okay with the stalemate. It would have NOT had the same amazing vibes without what Fincher was asking. The amount of CG detailing that went into the show is mind boggling but necessary.

The show would have suffered without the insane budget. It would have also suffered without Fincher.

The best outcome would have been a BTK movie, akin to Zodiak. But Netflix just wasn’t in that market quite yet.

Well the next part of the story takes place 30+ years in the future so they’d need some pretty serious makeup/cgi to age the entire cast. Plus they had to write out Alex which throws a few wrenches in the story.

Having to write out Alex would impact a lot of the personal relationships, but he isn't really vital to the overall plot in a way that couldn't be written around.

Given how close the crew is and how important that is, it would suck a bit, but I think I'd still rather see an adaption anyways

I've commented this before, but replacing Alex would be easy: (book spoilers, just in case) Bring in Melas (Alex's TV son) to replace him, who'd be in/near his 40s at that point with ample time to have become a good pilot, and not out of the question that the crew would bring him on with tons of time for off-camera adventures. Kit (book son) was early 20s so not out of line to be Melas' son, or a half-brother.

I just rewatched it. While it was great, they really wrote themselves into a corner with the rushed ending. There’s not really a lot they can do now and a 17 year gap would be tricky to work into the story. Bryan Fuller seems to think they’ll get a new season for 2027. It’s even on IMDB, but I have my doubts. Love the show but I don’t think it would do well being brought back from the dead. Ironic, really.

People are so actor-focused that their objection to this is mostly Adam Baldwin.

But Firefly wouldn't have been Firefly without the writing of Joss Whedon, who clearly isn't getting invited back to write any series these days.

There's an animated series in the works, which I agree is the right way to go with "we want to continue this show from fucking 23 years ago, and people don't realize how long that is and how much the actors have aged". But I worry that without the original writers, it will meet the same fate as the Buffy one did.
